To think a moisturiser that doesn’t cause acne exists?

Posting here for traffic!

After having a skin treatment done, my acne prone skin is having the worst outbreak ever. I’ve never moisturised but it’s so so so dry and itchy, as well as getting more spots than I’ve had had at the same time.

Cetaphil moisturising cream gave me spots, Dermalogica active moist is making it burn- I’m desperate!!

Can anyone recommend one that DOES NOT cause spots or make the many that I have worse?

Thank you!

The only moisturiser I can use is Embryolisse, it’s very plain and clean feeling if that makes sense!

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:23

@VickieCherry

It’s cysitc acne. Which Avene moisturiser do you use?

Clinique moisture surge gel - it’s oil free and very light.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:24

Thanks, everyone. Helpful as always Smile

I’m trying not to cry every time I pass a mirror and googling all your recommendations.

Take a look At Pai Skincare - they specialise in sensitive skin - you can get free samples to patch test and if you react to their products they will give you the money back
Their website has a live chat to customer services - ask for Kate or Katya they will help you out

I have had acne

I have had treatments and use prescription topicals. I have highly sensitive, acne prone skin.

You need either Avene Skin Recovery Cream (rich or regular depending on dryness) or Avene Tolerance Extreme (cream or emulsion).

They have minimal ingredients, no preservatives, are non comedogenic and designed for post procedure skin.

The best one for the acute phase post procedure is LRP Cicaplast Baume B5 SPF 50. Personally I would use that in the daytime until your redness and peeling has subsided, and the Avene at night.

Good luck!

Cerave is very simple. But would have to order on line which I imagine is a bit of a risk for you. Some bigger boots have it in store

WonkyDonk87 · 02/09/2018 08:32

I have combination acne (bit of blackheads, some pimples, occasional cysts and mostly pustules). Also currently pregnant so most cleansers etc aren't recommended. I'm currently using the Sukin cleansing gel (boots £7), Simple alcohol free toner for sensitive skin and Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel for moisturiser. Eucerin do the best facial sunscreen I've found - going to stock up before boots stop selling it as I've resolved to use it daily all year round. I also love the Sand and Sky Face mask but can't afford it again. This is the best routine for me so far (I've tried a lot!) that's within my price bracket. Good luck OP. Adult acne sucks.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:35

@Enjoli

People upthread have recommended Avene Tolerance Extreme, too. So it definitely didn’t give you acne?

@FreeButtonBee
I’ve looked into that but can’t find the PM moisturiser in the UK, only the body lotion 😔

This is what I use: www.boots.com/avene-hydrance-optimale-light-40ml-10108396

However if your skin is dry it may not be enough. I also use Vichy Aqualia Thermal serum, which is brilliant stuff.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:37

Thank you, @WonkyDonk87. I hope pregnancy hormones help your skin and save some breast milk to put on individual spots- it works a treat!

You are all very kind taking the time to reply to me. Having a major pity party right now Blush

LRP effaclar was awful for my skin too, but don't be put off by the rest of the range. This one is brilliant - very plain and simple but does a brilliant job.

Tolerance Extreme definitely doesn't give me acne.

It was prescribed to me by the dermatologist I see for acne.

FYI it takes about a month for a clogged pore to come to the surface as a visible spot. If you are breaking out a couple of days after using something, it's either irritation or its purging from your treatment.

TomHardysNextWife · 02/09/2018 08:52

DH has got rosacea and was really struggling to find something to use on his skin. After reading some forums, I bought him some Kalme products and they're really gentle. I use it too now, as I've got highly sensitive skin. The cleansing lotion is gorgeous.

I also have acne rosacea. Neals yard cleansers are great for me but the moisturiser bring me out in spots. The only thing I've found good is Dr Hauschka. Expensive but the quince cream or light rise day cream works wonders.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 02/09/2018 08:52

Rose not rise.

@Emjoii
Hmm, that’s interesting! The treatment has definitely given me acne. I had 1 spot when I had it done (microneedling) and now I have about 30. Feeling so bloody disheartened and wish I’d never messed around with trying to better my skin in the first place Sad

Whoops @SheStoodInTheStorm- thank you!

My suggestion is vitamins! I tried every face cream too but the following combo helped the most, irregardless of what face cream I used!: magnesium (the type dissolved in water rather than tablets which aren’t as good), strong fish oils, a strong b vitamin

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 08:55

@Enjoli

Sorry to ask so many questions! Which was it you used, Tolerance Extreme cream or Tolerance Extreme Emulsion?

Thank you, everyone! Googling away here

I was also going to suggest Pai - my skin is a mad combination of oily/spotty/dry/flaky/prone to spots/prone to redness and is very reactive - it’s the only thing that keeps my skin calm and happy and that doesn’t make me break out.

LittenKitten · 02/09/2018 08:59

Hi OP, have you spoken to the person that did your treatment about it?

My skin has had a horrible flair up recently and I’ve had to stop using most things on it. I’m just using Lush Ultrabland to cleanse and not putting anything else on, it seems to calm everything right down for me.

Good luck! Flowers

Talith · 02/09/2018 09:01

Lush Imperialis is bliss. Very gentle not overly greasy, soaks in beautifully and also soothing on sunburn so I imagine kind to senior skin like yours. Enzymion is also good, slightly more astringent and better for an oily skin. I'd stick to something natural.

dointhedo · 02/09/2018 09:02

I have acne rosacea and use Aveeno, my skin is much much calmer now.
