To think a moisturiser that doesn’t cause acne exists?

Posting here for traffic!

After having a skin treatment done, my acne prone skin is having the worst outbreak ever. I’ve never moisturised but it’s so so so dry and itchy, as well as getting more spots than I’ve had had at the same time.

Cetaphil moisturising cream gave me spots, Dermalogica active moist is making it burn- I’m desperate!!

Can anyone recommend one that DOES NOT cause spots or make the many that I have worse?

Thank you!

Thank you, @Badderwolf. I’m so angry at myself and keep crying about it, which seems pathetic but I start a new job this week and it’s so bloody sore and itchy.
I wish I’d just accepted my scars.

A few friends swear by Sond but pricey.

@Ansumpasty they just disappeared over the course of a week, it was thousands of tiny whiteheads more than an acne breakout though. The same thing happened when I has laser resurfacing! It's strange.

@Immigrantsong

I’m not sure which light treatment the dr is letting me have for free but their website says they offer Lustre light and Opera mask. Says 415mm blue light wavelength though, will this do nothing then?

E45? For sensitive dry skin

I use both of the Avene products regularly.

There's also a brilliant Eucerin product called Adjunctive Soothing Cream. It is a non comedogenic moisturiser for those using strong prescription topicals for acne. It is really nourishing yet lightweight, and contains soothing liquorice extract.

OP my skin hates a lot of things in moisturiser. Oil and silicones particularly. The only one I can use that is also moisturising enough is this one.

The Clinique Moisture Surge and the Neutrogena Hydra Boost are oil free, but they're also stuffed full of silicones which is major breakout time for me. The Olay is oil free, and it does have silicone but a lot further down the ingredients list than most and my skin can cope.

I find anything that calls itself a body souffle instead of a cream will be ok as they're lighter. Stupid name but does work.

La Roche Posay Efflacar for moisturiser and The Ordinary fur skincare.

I feel for you, I have super acne prone oily skin and I have to use a routine of three products daily otherwise I get horrible deep spots. I have electrolysis once a month on my chin and the hairs are so weak now they're growing back ingrown despite exfoliation, so I'm getting lovely extra angry spots.

Anyway the (budget!) products I use that really help are:

Bioré Charcoal! face wash
Acnecide 5% benzoyl peroxide cream
Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing moisturiser for oily skin

Sounds like your skin could do with some pure witch hazel gel to sooth and cleanse it for now. I use Sterex's witch hazel post electrolysis as it's 100% pure, and it helps so much. I don't know if you'd be able to find it in a shop but you want to look for a gel, not cream, as pure as possible. Definitely no alcohol or anything similar in it.

I have terrible congested oily skin, yet to find any that don’t cause break outs. I tend to pick serums such as mishha time revolution (an Estée Lauder repair serum dupe) and clarin lotus oil which is aimed for oily skin. I’ve also started using Korean skin care products and noticed improvements

Sorry for the little wall of text, apparently formatting doesn't work if posting from the app! 😲

PS Calamine lotion is brilliant for drying them up, healing them and stopping the itch.

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 19:32

Brilliant, thanks!

Wow- never thought of calamine lotion! Currently doing a mixture of ice, sudocrem and proactiv mask blobbed onto each individual spot.

Have about 30 sudocrem blobs on my face. My husband is one lucky man Grin

The problem is, everyone’s skin is completely different. Your best bet would be to try any testers that you can (department store booths often have them to give out) and friends and generic testers in shops. See how they are on your skin.

I always recommend sudocrem though, cheap and fab on any blemishes. In the evening I use clarins lotus oil or a night Nivea/garnier mouisturiser all over then sudo on dodgy bits, in the morning I use a garnier day moisturiser followed by garnier aging B.B. tinted moisturiser and other make up. I had acne as a teen and all of the medications. Generally now my skin is ok!

vampirethriller · 02/09/2018 20:41

The only ones I've found that don't make me spotty are the Lacura one from Aldi or Dr Organic rose from Holland and Barratt.

Ansumpasty · 05/09/2018 08:16

Just a little update- cleaning the really bad area with chlorhexidine (Sp!!) and putting fucidin H on it and bought myself a little Lumie Clear light. Using it twice a day in desperation!
