To think a moisturiser that doesn’t cause acne exists?

Posting here for traffic!

After having a skin treatment done, my acne prone skin is having the worst outbreak ever. I’ve never moisturised but it’s so so so dry and itchy, as well as getting more spots than I’ve had had at the same time.

Cetaphil moisturising cream gave me spots, Dermalogica active moist is making it burn- I’m desperate!!

Can anyone recommend one that DOES NOT cause spots or make the many that I have worse?

Thank you!

@LittenKitten

Hi OP, have you spoken to the person that did your treatment about it?
I did and all they can give me is antibiotics which trigger major IBS for me so I’m trying to steer clear. Thank you

The problem is you are sensitive to one or more ingredients in cosmetics, and everyone is different. The way I manage my skin is by running everything through cosdna website and finding the common denominators. For me, any flower oil including olive and castor seem to cause break outs so I avoid them. Some of the Asian skin care company's can be good. I like mizon snail recovery gel (about £3-4 from ebay).
I also find aldi's face cream in a jar good

Lineeye · 02/09/2018 09:10

Nivea sensitive face cream- they do a day and night version (lilac/ dark blue lids). They’re cheap as chips and the only thing I’ve found that doesn’t break out my acne, and I’ve tried nearly everything!

Lineeye · 02/09/2018 09:14

It’s these ones. Other creams in the same range break me out so steer clear of those.

Eucerin Urea cream has honestly changed my life. Ive had adult acne for 15ish years and now my skin is fine, it looks like a normal 35 year olds skin ie no teenage acne! It also makes a superb base for makeup - it's like it sticks to the moisturiser and goes on smoothly and evenly and stays on!

Ansumpasty · 02/09/2018 09:41

@HouseOfSix will look into that, thanks!

I use the body shop aloe soothing day cream. Since using it, my acne has decreased!

OP 'The Ordinary' products are really good and have bare minimum ingredients. I have had zero issues using this range and have very sensitive skin. I use the Hyaluronic Acid serum at night and the Natural Moisturizing Factor during the day. They have other serums that work wonders on scarring too. Check out the reviews online. So cheap too.

ThatLibraryMiss · 02/09/2018 11:17

I really like Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel, which is oil-free and is really popular in skincare groups. It's positioned as the cheap version of the Clinique moisture surge. It's £9.50 in Sainsburys at the moment.

Allthewaves · 02/09/2018 11:23

You can get topical antibiotics from gp - Iv found dalacin T lotion is amazing

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/09/2018 11:24

Neals Yard Almond moisturiser. Only thing that doesn't burn my bloody face off. I use a cotton bud to dab it on & then apply it with my hands.

When I'm super dry and peely, I use 8hr Cream. I've never found greasy creams an issue as long as you wash them off properly.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/09/2018 11:25

*wash & dry your face properly, even!

Mommybearx · 02/09/2018 11:27

Crem de la mer if u want to spend but u find elemis is reasonably priced and good. However I found when I had acne only when I realised it was a internal hormonal issue is when it got better

9amTrain · 02/09/2018 11:28

What scar treatment was it that you had? :)

Child's farm moisturiser hasn't affected my majorly sensitive skin

Oldraver · 02/09/2018 11:36

I have always had crappy skin of various sorts and until recently didnt use a moustirizer, ones I did try inflamed my skin.

I have been using Badger Balm for a year or so without any ill effects.

I think it is beeswax based so may be not suitable for some skins, but it has been a revelation to me

HardAsSnails · 02/09/2018 11:43

Have tried so many of these products and really struggled to find something that worked, LRP Effaclur Duo worked brilliantly for a year and then one day I had an allergic reaction to it so had to stop, the only thing that works for me now is Dr Nick Lowe's Redness Relief:

Hi OP, a bit of a skin expert here. First of all, please go back where you had your treatment and ask them to sort this out for you. Any reputable place should want to resolve this as it's simply bad advertising having a client experience issues. Secondly it sounds you are experiencing 2 different issues: 1)acne 2)dryness. The dryness is likely a result of the treatment (was it a peel?) and spots can c=surface if the skin has been stripped of it's moisture. You need to be careful as with skincare what works for one person doesn't for another. I would steer clear of creams as they can be heavy for acneic skin and lean more towards lotions as more fluid hence lighter. Please be gentle and avoid anything with shea butter, paraffinum liquidum and alcohol as they will clog/trip your skin more. I would in all honesty see your GP and ask for a referral and visit stores for samples of skincare. If you feel brave posting a photo of an area on your face I can advise better.

BadderWolf · 02/09/2018 11:51

OP, exactly when did you get the treatment, what was put on your face both before, during after the microneedling and what depth was the procedure done at? Did you have it done by a dermatologist or by a beauty clinic? Did they definitely use sterile needles? It sounds as though you have reacted to something applied during or after the procedure itself (when the holes are open and extremely receptive to an bacteria or ingredients introduced).

Bioderm Cicabio is very good for post procedure healing (also LRP cicaplast but cicabio as an anti-itch in it which is really effective). Plain jojoba oil is also a good bet. I'd stay away from any commercial moisturisers that aren't specifically formulated for post procedure care. You also need a sunscreen (I'd recommend Bioderm again).

It sounds as though the clinic things you have been infected if they're suggesting antibiotics...

How horrible for you, I hope you're ok.

E45 is the only thing that doesn't upset my skin usually, but I've been using Superdrug's Naturally Radiant night cream (Sali Hughes has been raving about this range for ages and it's actually brilliant) and that has been perfect for me. Smells great too :-)

9amTrain · 02/09/2018 12:04

Ah microneedling!
