babysharksmummy · 01/09/2018 23:32

*drawer
(btw apologies if that sounds sexist... DH has a drawer full of random shite like mini tools and batteries and loose change and it drives me insane)

Atthebottomofthesea · 01/09/2018 23:39

I have just moved into a house that on the one side of the kitchen is wonderful storage. 4 big wonderful glass fronted cabinets (books) and 3 x 4 drawer cabinets. These hold cards, paper, bags, batteries and all other clobber.

Alas the house is still a mess.

MaryandMichael · 01/09/2018 23:41

Plastic storage crates with lids.

Saracen · 01/09/2018 23:47

Wrapping paper in a suit bag hanging in the wardrobe, together with tape, a marker, scissors and a few bows.

Cards in a file in the filing cabinet

Post on dining table until opened. Once opened, dealt with immediately and filed wherever it belongs

Batteries in a plastic box on the shelf.

Books/magazines which are on the go - wherever they are being read, therefore scattered freely around the house

Shoes frequently used - on a shoe rack, or actually a tall plant stand because there's no space for a long low shoe rack and I prefer vertical storage solutions.

TheWoollybacksWife · 02/09/2018 00:00

Wrapping paper in a wrapping paper storage bag in a drawer in my bedroom
Cards I try to get what I need four weeks at a time and keep them in the sideboard drawer.
Handbags bottom of the wardrobe for any not in use. Current one is hung on the back of a chair in the kitchen.
Post sits on a cupboard in the hall until it is opened and then answered, filed or recycled immediately.
Plastic tat we are past that now but it used to live in DS's toybox and get culled every few months or so.
Batteries fresh ones in a storage unit in the utility room along with things like light bulbs and picture hooks and spent ones in a metal box until I take them to be recycled.
Books on my bedside table.
Shoes Two shoe cupboards.

pandarific · 02/09/2018 00:02

This jolly little metal filing cabinet is great for things like that.

...wrapping paper. -tubes stand in a gap between the cupboard and the wall.
Cards - in a box on top of a cupboard.
Handbags - shelf in the wardrobe.
Post - either in the bin or in a pile of I need to keep it.
Plastic tat from party bags and McDonalds or pocket money spends - in a kitchen drawer. If kids don't mention it again for a few weeks, it goes in the bin.
Batteries
Magazines / books that are on the go - bed side table.
Shoes that are almost constantly in use - bottom of the wardrobe or under bed.

GoodbyeSummer · 02/09/2018 00:44

wrapping paper behind the tv
Cards I don't. Used ones get chucked and I buy them for others as they're needed
Handbags I only have one and it gets put near the table in the dining room
Post on the side until opened and then either in the recycle bin, the bag in the cupboard under the kettle or in the filing box in our room. Letters that need to be kept for quick reference, e.g. bills that need paying in the next few days get put on the side under the baby wipes
Plastic tat from party bags and McDonalds or pocket money spends toybox and then the bin
Batteries bedside drawer
Magazines / books that are on the go on the top of the computer cupboard
Shoes that are almost constantly in use in the big shoe box near the door

www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-organisers-shelves/variera-plastic-bag-dispenser-white-art-80010222/

Cards
In a card size box - I buy cards I like and keep them together so I always have selection handy.

Handbags
Inside each other hanging back of door. I don't have many.

Post
Deal with it as it comes in.

Plastic tat from party bags and McDonalds or pocket money spends
Try to avoid it but the dc have some of this crap in their room.

Batteries
In stationary drawer. I have a jar to collect used batteries before they get taken to supermarket fir recycling

Magazines / books that are on the go
Beside bed.

TheClitterati · 02/09/2018 01:35

Have you read Marie Kondo op?

You need to find a home for every item.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 02/09/2018 07:10

Wrapping paper/scissors/tape- I bought one of those over door shoe storage things, you know the ones with pockets? Then cut the bottom out of some pockets so that the wrapping paper slides down to rest in the bottom one. I can see what's in there at a glance and it's all kept out of sight on he inside of a cupboard door.

BertieBott · 02/09/2018 07:52

Go on Pinterest- type in how to store x .

See you in a few hours.

TroysMammy · 02/09/2018 08:25

Joinourclub I'm not really, I'm a sucker for a plastic box.

My spare bedroom where I craft is always a mess.

I have too much stuff, eg 4 sets of dinnerware when there's only 2 of us and we don't entertain.

I just have space for things I don't really need Grin.

Sandstormbrewing · 02/09/2018 08:37

wrapping paper - in a fruit box from the supermarket in the top of the wardrobe
Cards - sent to us, stay 1 week then go in the recycling. Cards I'm going to write are with the wrapping paper +along with gift tags, cello tape and scissors and a pen or 3.
Handbags - top shelf of the wardrobe
Post - of on the shelf above the coat rack in the hall (keys and hats/ gloves too)
Plastic tat from party bags and McDonalds or pocket money spends - the bin or toy box if DC is very attached to it.
Batteries - understairs cupboard with the light bulbs.
Magazines / books that are on the go - bedside table or coffee table depending on where they are being read.
Shoes that are almost constantly in use - bench in the hall, under the coat rack has boxes under it for our 'everyday' shoes.

zeebeedee · 02/09/2018 08:37

wrapping paper - in the wardrobe
Cards - mostly just send from funkypigeon so none to store
Handbags - don't have a spare
Post - open it deal wit it, bin it
Plastic tat from party bags and McDonalds or pocket money spends - rarely have any, but in toy box, and 'thinned out' periodically
Batteries - sideboard drawer
Magazines / books that are on the go - bedside table
Shoes that are almost constantly in use

Polkapjs · 02/09/2018 09:02

OP thank you for this thread. I have no idea where tidy people put things and I really want to declutter.

MissWimpyDimple · 02/09/2018 09:06

Large Ikea kallax unit for most of those.

TomHardysNextWife · 02/09/2018 09:09

I bought a large plastic storage box for christmas cards, birthdays cards and wrapping paper. There's a pair of scissors in there, ribbon, pens and sellotape. And I bulk buy cards so am never caught on the hop for someone's birthday.

We bought a storage cube from IKEA to have next to the back door - we use 3 boxes for storing shoes, dog leads, dog towels etc and another one holds the recycling. It was only around £50 and has been brilliant. We have a rule that if your shoes aren't in it, they're fair game for being wanged down the garden whatever the weather Grin.

HurricaneHalle · 02/09/2018 09:10
