Hermes have ruined my holiday

NationalShiteDay · 31/08/2018 17:25

I go on holiday next week, an attempt at a relaxing break (few nights somewhere close by in case it all goes tits up). I have bad PND and had ordered some new clothes to try and help me feel like I look a bit nicer on holiday. My local Hermes courier has them and I've waited in all day for them to deliver. They claimed to have attempted to deliver them this morning but I know for a fact this is lies. I was sat by the window with the baby asleep on me watching for the delivery when they claimed to have attempted.

I've been in touch with customer services who say they can't get in touch with the courier. They won't be able to attempt delivery again until I'm on holiday next week.

No new clothes for me Sad

Sorry I'm just wallowing in my own self pity here and needed a rant. I just wanted to look nice and not feel fat. The baby cries all the time if i try and go to the shops.

I'm 13 weeks pp and yes I have been to see the GP about my low mood.

Why do people lie instead of doing their job properly??

Hermes are AWFUL, my heart sinks when I order something then find out it's Hermes delivering. I've also had failed deliveries when someone has DEFINITELY been home, packages left hidden in the bushes (in the rain), delivered to a 'neighbour' that didn't even live on the same street and once literally just left on my doorstep for anyone to see! I know the drivers are under pressure and crappy conditions - the company needs to sort itself out. YANBU, rant to your heart's content Flowers

East Mids? Although I think you're assumption is probably right Smile

Zippitydoodar · 31/08/2018 20:09

If you order from next tonight you'll get them tomorrow. They are delivered by Hermes but the courier HAS to deliver them on time or they lose their bonus and get badgered by next.

I don't get it. I delivered for Hermes years ago and you had to deliver the day you collected the parcels or you got Into trouble, also if you didn't you'd have two day worth of parcels to deliver which isn't fun!

They work Saturdays and Sundays as well.

HeadfirstForHalos · 31/08/2018 20:11

Have you checked outside? I was expecting a parcel through Hermes today, someone has been in all day , but it hasn't arrived. Tracked it online and it said it had been delivered. Dh found it thrown over the 6 foot side gate next a a puddle! It's a large canvas map of Middle Earth for dd1s birthday next week, need to check it's not been damaged when she's gone to bed, have popped it in the car for now. Nobody has knocked, even if they had and we hadn't heard it, the dogs always let us know

modelthroughit · 31/08/2018 20:12

I’m currently in a cycle with Hermes who tell me they put a parcel through my letterbox when I could see it all morning on the day they claimed it was delivered. Their online chat people just tell me it was put through the letterbox... it’s getting tiresome.

Unfortunately this is an ASOS parcel, so they’re not a safe retailer! Sigh.

SpeckledDot · 31/08/2018 20:15

I fucking hate Hermes. I had to wait in 3 days once while they 'attempted' delivery. Each day i sat in and waited, and by 11:30 I'd check my phone and it would say that they'd tried but i wasn't in. I was fuming!

Sorry Hairy I.m in Scotland.
WaxOn That sounds like my Hermes lady! Does she deliver in a purple van?

Thishatisnotmine · 31/08/2018 20:20

Hermes are terrible. A dolls house for dd just went awol in their depot. It was delivered after a few days but no one could tell me where it was while it was missing. Oyr local delivery man is great though: turns up in his people carrier full of stuff, knocks the door, if we are not in bungs the parcel in the gas cupboard. Excellent!

But OP, as the couriers work for themselves they can deliver quite late. So there is still hope!

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/08/2018 20:21

Nope %cats, not a purple van, she has a silver car :) Must be lots of nice hermes ladies about. To be fair we had a man before (might be her husband?) who was also really good.

mathanxiety · 31/08/2018 20:21

Grin Roomba - me too.

Hoping this experience is better than an outbreak of the dreaded you-know-what, NationalShiteDay.

And commiserations - hope you'll feel better soon, and hope you'll get your clothes and enjoy a lovely holiday Flowers

Loyaultemelie · 31/08/2018 20:27

I'm in NI and I have an almost identical lovely Hermes lady oddly enough although she drives a black jeep

My lady is of "a certain age" and is quite short. dark hair and rounded. And very smiley

Ok, this is weird. This describes my hermes lady perfectly.

Do you think hermes are tired of all their crap couriers and have a secret facility somewhere where they are creating androids? They are currently trialling in certain areas and so no national roll out as yet? That's why everyone else is getting such crap service? Grin

Op, apologies, didn't intend to derail your thread.

5cats · 31/08/2018 20:29

Ah WaxOn different part of Scotland then.
The one before our current courier was also a women and she was great too. Sorry to all those and the OP who are having a bad experience with their Hermes couriers.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/08/2018 20:30

lol, that made me laugh Hairy :o

Mine has a Scottish accent (funnily enough!) but I guess they could programme them to fit the area.

5cats · 31/08/2018 20:32

HairyHiker think you might be onto something there Grin
Think we need to get ours onto our poor OP so she can rest easy.

Hermes have apparently delivered 3 Next parcel to my house in the last two days, one a replacement for the first the claimed had been "Delivered". All my DS's school uniform. I have had no parcels. They are absolutely shocking!!!

Yogagirl123 · 31/08/2018 20:58

I have been let down by Hermes in the past too. It’s very disappointing I know. Hopefully, they will get their act together and deliver tomorrow.

If not, could someone have the baby for a couple of hours for you to go shopping, if you feel upto it of course. If not perhaps you may get some shopping opportunities while on your hols.

Have a lovely holiday OP Flowers

GlendaMedeiros · 31/08/2018 22:52

You have my sympathy, DPD recently drove me to the edge of sanity. I waited in on numerous occasions for a parcel, only to receive a "sorry we missed you" email, complete with a photo of entirely the wrong house. It took many, many phone calls to resolve.

And I'm now feeling irrationally angry just remembering the whole wretched episode.

Angelf1sh · 31/08/2018 23:02

Hermes are utter bastards and they all lie. If they do come when you’re not in they always leave cards saying it’s their second attempt so that they only have to come back once more. They come on days which aren’t the days they said they would and they’re just generally shit. I hate them too.

Catinthecorner · 01/09/2018 10:06

My local Hermes lady is terrible and we recently had a chat that threw so much light on the subject.

She had dropped a card saying she’d tried to deliver and it had her mobile number on. Which I called. I asked her to drop said parcel with a neighbour, any neighbour as I would be in hospital by the redelivery (I was heading there at the time of the call).

She couldn’t tell me around what time she would be delivering in my area, but also wouldn’t leave with an unspecified neighbour I needed to give her the house number of the neighbour who would be in. She was completely incapable of understanding if she didn’t know what time I couldn’t really ask who would be around then.

In the end she got very cross with me and shouted ‘I’m not a delivery specialist you know, I’m a self employed courier’ - unfortunately she then hung up on me so I’ll never know what she thinks a courier is if not a delivery specialist.

NationalShiteDay · 01/09/2018 11:52

🤔 delivery specialist...

Thank you all though. I have a little more perspective today, and a new dress courtesy of a snatched half hour mad dash to the nearest clothing store (newlook)

FB and Twitter have yielded no results so far, so I've put my energies into emailing the retailers I've used telling them what has happened. Doubt it will do anything tbh but it felt like a vent in the right direction.

I think my previous, fabulous, Hermes delivery driver specialist lulled me into a false sense of Hermes security! I've learnt my lesson.

To those who have great delivery specialists, hug them dearly next time they deliver your parcel and tell them never to quit Grin

Hermes delivered to our "rear porch". I was a little confused as we don't have one and they wouldn't have been able to access the rear of the house even if we did. Turned out they had chucked the parcel (fortunately containing non breakable items) over the gate where it had got very soggy in the rain!

Neshoma · 01/09/2018 12:43

Bombardier does have a point. I was let down last minute on something and had to pay extra for Next Day, then got an email it would be delivered after the Bank Holiday. Very stressful.

for many people, just placing an online order while looking after a newborn is a major achievement. Hmm I think it's a bit silly to say a woman can't even get place an online order or take a shower even for the first 6 weeks. Baby's cry so let them cry for 5 minutes.

OP I bet if you went shopping your baby would go to sleep through the whole trip.

I will, but I also do something a little more. I make sure that I keep my returns in as many separate bags as they come in (i.e. on different delivery notes) rather than combining them as they get paid by the parcel not the delivery.
