To think this woman was far ruder than me!

Feeling a bit upset as this took place in front of my DS.

I was coming out of a shop and stopped at the front to put my purse in my bag. A woman approached with her DC to enter the shop. I admit I was blocking the entrance. She huffed a bit and walked around me, this got my back up a bit so as I walked off I said to DS, 'she only needed to say excuse me'.

The woman then shouted after me, 'no I didn't need to say excuse me at all'.

I saw red at this point and shouted that she had no manners, she said nor do you and called me a stupid cow.

I'm rather shocked and embarrassed my comment escalated to this and it shook me up tbh.

She didn't need to shout after me.

AIBU?

So you're shocked that she name called Infront of children, but you didn't mind involving a child in your passive comment? You were shook because you either expected her to ignore you or apologize, not actually stand her ground.

WTBE · 30/08/2018 16:55

*Shook up

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/08/2018 16:56

Yabvvvvu. You should have replied ‘I know you are but what am I?’

This is pretty much all on you OP

NoSquirrels · 30/08/2018 16:59

When you first inconvenienced her, you should have said “Sorry” whilst moving out of the way. That would have been modelling good behaviour to your DS.

Passive aggressively commenting about her was in no way modelling good behaviour. So you probably deserved the “stupid cow” insult, alas.

Was it really an issue for her to have to walk around me or to have wait a few seconds for me to move out of her way

It was the passive aggressive comment that was more of an issue, and you know it.

People who stop in doorways with no consideration to others are really annoying. You should have just apologised and moved.

SlimmingMumOf1 · 30/08/2018 17:00

I would've ignored itZ

ApproachingATunnel · 30/08/2018 17:00

You sound a bit of a knob. Don’t be a knob and block the entrance next time and if you do say sorry.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 30/08/2018 17:01

You shouldn't have stopped in the door but (mainly) you both should have been less quick to get offended and angry and offensive.

It's a crowded world and we all need to cut each other a bit of slack.

YeOldeFishWife · 30/08/2018 17:05

Well shoot me down in flames but this a reverse. Sorry Flowers.

I've related it as the woman probably saw it but the way I saw it was - woman standing in front of me, barely registered her as I was talking to DC. I walked around her then heard her loudly saying to her DC 'she could have just said excuse me' etc. I was non plussed as I didn't need her to moveHmm so I told her that no I didn't need to say excuse me. She was then shouting something as she walked off and I heard 'rude' and 'you've got no manners' which I thought she was as I had done nothing to her at all. Her kid looked terrified.

The stupid cow slipped out as I couldn't understand why she was shouting about nothing Confused.

Lots of other people heard and shop assistant asked me if I was OK when I went inside.

Completely blindsided me at what was supposed to be a slow mooch around the shop and after that I rushed to get out and get home in case she came back in.

Was second guessing myself a bit I suppose Grin.

The time and place to put your purse away is when you have finished your purchase, ie at the till, you move away slightly so you don't block the till if anyone else is waiting then you sort out your purchases and your purse. Then you leave the shop.

I thought everyone knew that. Putting your purse away just outside the shop entrance is a ) bloody annoying because you are blocking the entrance b) signalling to pick pockets where your money is c) telling them that you are an easy target.

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2018 17:07

It was the passive aggressive comment that was more of an issue, and you know it

Agree, it wasn't the blocking the doorway at all, that just got a huff, it was the comment to the son intended for the woman to hear then following it up by shouting at her she had no manners.

That shit never goes down well 🤣

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2018 17:08

Why do people do reverses, what actual point do they serve?

viques · 30/08/2018 17:09

Oh it's a reverse. You were still rude.

spidey66 · 30/08/2018 17:10

If I'd been in your shoes, I would have smiled and said 'oh, I'm sorry' and shifted. Which probably explains why I rarely have difficulties with strangers in public.

WilburIsSomePig · 30/08/2018 17:11

It's a reverse. Dick move.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 30/08/2018 17:11

Oh bollocks. Of course it’s not a reverse, you just don’t like a unaminous verdict of YABU. And you’re highly strung enough to let what a bunch of strangers on the internet think.

You were a passive aggressive bitch and if I were your son I’d be mortified.

RavenLG · 30/08/2018 17:11

I can't roll my eyes enough at this reverse. You come off worst just for the reverse tbh.

spidey66 · 30/08/2018 17:11

I clearly didn't RTFT.

Oh, I'm sorry

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 30/08/2018 17:11

*think bother you

SassitudeandSparkle · 30/08/2018 17:12

Ah, the meeting of two passive-agressive people. Always ends well.

SausageOnAFork · 30/08/2018 17:13

Oh a reverse. Ffs.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 30/08/2018 17:13

Tbh whichever one you were you come across as a truly unpleasant person.

Maelstrop · 30/08/2018 17:13

You know you were rude and in the wrong. You were wrong to stand in the doorway and no, she shouldn’t have had to say excuse me to the inconsiderate person in everyone’s way.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/08/2018 17:14

Why the frig did you do a reverse?
Or did you Wink
