To not understand how this different from putting an anorexic model on the cover

Cosmopolitan have a morbidly obese model on their cover this month. I am absolutely behind the idea of body positivity - after children my body is far from perfect and it’s nice to see companies like ASOS use larger women and not airbrush stretch marks etc.

But this model is dangerously obese and risking her health. How is that any different from having a dangerously thin model on the cover?

And yet she apparently hikes and trains 4 times a week.... Sure...

The only thing she's benchpressing is a cheeseburger

AynRandTheObjectivist · 31/08/2018 20:16

She might well exercise. Exercise doesn't make you thin. It makes you fit, strong, toned, flexible, but not thin. The only way to lose weight is to eat less.

OftenHangry · 31/08/2018 20:18

@AynRandTheObjectivist I have to be honest here. I simply can't imagine her being physically able to hike. Her knees and ankles can't possibly handle that.

JillCrewesmum · 31/08/2018 20:39

Hikes! Goes for a walk maybe. She'd do herself an injury actually hiking. And that's not a bitchy thing to say - it must be physically impossible to do a lot of things.

OftenHangry · 31/08/2018 21:13

I quite like this thread now. My diet and exercise haven't been going so well lately, but today was great!
(not a diet diet, but a sustainable lifestyle/food changes)
So thanks, Cosmo?

maZebraltov · 31/08/2018 21:42

TH working out. I only recognise her by the tats, tbh.

Fireworks91 · 31/08/2018 21:45

This is all getting very bitchy playground now.

Bluelady · 31/08/2018 21:55

It's been vile from the word go. Horrible, horrible, woman hating, fat shaming thread.

toomuchconfusion · 31/08/2018 22:10

'The only thing she's benchpressing is a cheeseburger' - Oh yes what a helpful discussion indeed! Pure ignorance and stereotyping!

Plus you OftenHangry going on about exercising so you don't look Tess, oh look more judgment.

You know how it could be discussed without the being cruel, maybe even with some level of kindness and empathy. I'm hoping for too much though.

OftenHangry · 31/08/2018 22:11

No one woman hated here? And it's not fat shaming. It's anti morbid obesity.

OftenHangry · 31/08/2018 22:16

@toomuchconfusion some people have a certain dress or top as a motivation and go towards it. Never worked for me. I am just genuinely happy I finally found something that works for me. Not sorry.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 31/08/2018 22:16

If the online calculations are correct she's between 46-49.5 on the BMI scale.

I feel hideously fat and willbw making efforts towards this and am 33 on the scale.

I think not promoting but equally not demonising any weight is the best way to go.

A model should be chosen for her striking eyes of her natural pose, not her waistline.

She is indeed not a great role model.

Fireworks91 · 31/08/2018 22:17

Yup, no bitchy comments whatsoever. 🤨😏🙄

OftenHangry · 31/08/2018 22:23

We completely forgot to mention fatty liver. If you are overweight please keep getting your liver function checked. It can repair itself to some extent, but there is a limit to it.

MarcieBluebell · 31/08/2018 22:35

For me I see someone with a mental addiction.

Binge eating disorders are so damaging yet never taken seriously and celebrating it is sad.

SpringSnow · 31/08/2018 22:39

Oh yes what a helpful discussion indeed! Pure ignorance and stereotyping! @toomuch. Or just the truth? I'm fat, (working on losing weight, doing well so far, still got a bit to go) and the reason I got fat was by eating and drinking too much.

SpringSnow · 31/08/2018 22:42

It's been vile from the word go. Horrible, horrible, woman hating, fat shaming thread. @Blue SJWs tend to react like that when confronted with the truth

helacells · 31/08/2018 22:52

Bloody hell, why on earth do they think that cover will sell? would have thought most women would recoil at that pic, never mind spend good money on it. Are we supposed to celebrate her fatness? Gross representation for young women.

InertPotato · 31/08/2018 22:56

She looks as though she'd struggle to move. Not attractive.

Cosmo is a bottom feeder rag, so I'm not following this 'development'.

Bluelady · 31/08/2018 23:01

What does that mean, Springsnow?

AnExcellentUsername · 31/08/2018 23:15

@HelenaDove absolutely bang on. The difference is that anorexic models aren't hated, they are pitied. An anorexic model wouldn't be met with anywhere near the same vitriol.

HelenaDove · 31/08/2018 23:22

Ive kept the weight off for a long time now but sometimes find these threads a bit triggering. They remind me of the time i was bullied and abused in the street for my weight. And it tells me what the people who stayed silent about it were really thinking.

Bluelady · 31/08/2018 23:25

As Spring isn't apparently coming back, does anyone else know what an SJW is?

Magnussen · 31/08/2018 23:30

I didn't see that.... in what context?
