I'm worried that when KW finally breaks her silence, she's going to go off on a rant than will lessen any support she's had. Lots of reference everywhere of her 'clear MH issues', most, I think, genuine concern but also many of the 'ugh - the woman needs serious medical help/ has serious problems' - of the type that I recognise are meant in a derogatory manner rather than concern (the comment of MH issues contained in the odious Shane Junior's post on Twitter for example). The sort of people who would still come out with the likes of 'she's mental/ mad/ should be locked up' if they weren't devious and smart enough to know that would lose them support, even from the people on their 'side'.
As keeps being said - she is 76, she lived most of her life during a time when any MH issues were not just stigmatised but positively shameful to have. I would imagine any mention of possible 'mental illness' during her life has not been made with a view not to 'helping' her, but at controlling her - eg, 'you're mad' 'deranged' 'hysterical' etc could well have achieved the result of taking her down, shutting her up, because if she didn't, and return to some sort of semblance of 'normal' then she could very well have been 'locked up/ sectioned/ put in an 'asylum'. I'm in my early 40's, and even within my lifetime, within the UK, 'sectioning', being locked away/ forced to take dumbing down medications/ have barbaric treatments such as forced ECT upon me' could have been a very real possibility for me had I not learned to control what I now know was emotional dysregulation due to BPD (also largely a result of horrific abuse as a child. Being told I am 'mad' has been used against me and to discredit me my whole life, so I too have always resisted the 'MH problems' tag for much of my life, and wouldn't be surprised if she does the same.
Not saying Kim has BPD btw, just that I recognise and 'get' much of her behaviour. In fact, I myself only reluctantly ever went along with the whole 'BPD' label as it was the only way to ever get a modicum of help or understanding. I'm not really onboard with the whole medicalisation of trauma related issues. Complex PTSD however (which has little if any difference to BPD), is the label I I have found is always the best received by people, after all, it's something that 'heroes' get, isn't it. FFS......
