I know it will never be the same as proper coffee but surely some are better than others?!

I’ve boycotted all nestle products for decades (can that be right? Sorry think decades). Loads do.

DontFundHate · 11/07/2019 21:50

Definitely @Owlish felt like someone had to say it but not sure it'll help!

@HeronLanyon could be! since early naughties for me, on and off

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 11/07/2019 21:52

How do you properly boycott nestle?Shock
With the number of brands it owns

BrigitsBigKnickers · 11/07/2019 22:16

DH has always rated the Blue lid Kenco instant coffee

HeronLanyon · 11/07/2019 22:18

Boycott isn’t hard more just avoid - haven’t ever come across anything they own that doesn’t have an alternative or just isn’t necessary etc. Honestly haven’t ever thought twice about it.

DontFundHate · 11/07/2019 22:19

I just don't buy those brands. It's not too tricky once you know what they are. Plenty of other options around. I found beauty the hardest and am often tempted but I try not to.
Here's an image which I find helpful
cdn.zmescience.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/nestle-subsidiaries.jpg that's from 4 years ago though

Here's the up to date list www.babymilkaction.org/nestle-boycott-list

I'm going to have a look through this myself too as things can change, eg body shop used to be part owned by nestle but not anymore

megletthesecond · 11/07/2019 22:22

I started boycotting nestle in 91 or 92.
It's been quite easy tbh. I miss Munchies but hate nestle ethics more so I've never crumbled.

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 11/07/2019 22:35

So do you boycott even partners?

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 11/07/2019 22:36

Because Nestle is now selling Starbucks products when outside of Starbucks shops.
Sorry hit send too early

StripyHorse · 11/07/2019 22:36

I usually get Alcafe barista (Aldi) although I like Percol or Kenco Americano if they are on offer.

Strangely, although I love proper coffee and have a coffee machine, even when I am not in a hurry, the first coffee of the day has to be instant.

HeronLanyon · 12/07/2019 00:03

ninjain had to look up what ‘partners’ is - a Nescafé fairtrade blend. Yes I wouldn’t buy it - I simply don’t buy anything nestle owned or licenced. A fairtrade brand doesn’t do anything to negate the fundamental ethical problem with the parent company. There are plenty of fair trade companies (not just niche brands) around to support.

HEW0124 · 13/07/2019 22:35

Azera it's always on offer at one if the supermarkets so I stick it in Google shopping before I go out to see which one to go to and stock up. Usually around £5.50 at full price but on offer it's around £2-3.

DontFundHate · 14/07/2019 22:44

Wow I didn't know about Starbucks. Not sure how I feel about that. I don't often go to Starbucks but will probably avoid now. Don't like the idea of Starbucks allowing Nestlé to use their name, it says to me that Starbucks like nestle, and that they don't really care about ethics at all

Bracknellite · 14/07/2019 22:57

Check out www.babymilkaction.org before buying Nescafé (part of Nestle).

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 14/07/2019 23:30

Azero isn't smooth enough for me, millicano is what we had at work before the boss bought a coffee machine and is passable, better than Nescafé etc, percol and lavazza are actually pretty decent , but the best instant I've found is illy

HubbabubbaT · 14/07/2019 23:50

L'or intense. Give it to visitors and they ask what coffee machine we have Wink

BadLad · 15/07/2019 05:38

Nescafé Azera is like coffee shop Americano. Delicious

Yes, it's the best of the instant coffees.

LadyB49 · 15/07/2019 05:51

Azera Americano. I buy it when it's on half price offer. Current!y have 12 tins in my store cupboard.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/07/2019 05:52

I don't think anyone has suggested a stove top espresso maker yet?

www.johnlewis.com/bialetti-moka-express-hob-espresso-maker/p1407523

Be aware that the number of cups equals espresso shots so the 1 cup one is tiny. You don't have to fill up the bigger ones.

If you're set on instant, the Azera type ones are best and as it's all so subjective, it's probably best to just try whatever is on offer - there's almost always one of them half price in any supermarket.

Downunderduchess · 15/07/2019 07:18

Definitely Lavazza!

b0bb1n · 15/07/2019 07:19

Jacobs!! By far.

You can only get it on Amazon here, it's a German brand and it is divine.

hazell42 · 15/07/2019 08:23

Cant stand instant coffee.
I bought a travel mug from bodum that is also an individual cafetiere, so I never have to drink instant coffee.
It is brilliant. Keeps coffee hot for hours too
Highly recommended
Instant coffee is so thin.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/07/2019 08:33

Alta Rica, or L'Or.
Whenever either is on offer, dh is apt to come home laden with them.

BinkyBaa · 15/07/2019 10:49

I'm partial to the azera
