Finally treated myself to my first new pair of loubotins (had an inheritance windfall and after 2 years of mature student study have finally got my first job in chosen profession so celebrating) paid 495 for them and wore them for a grand total of 4 hours and now the red laquer on the soles is completely peeling off
So disappointed after many years of listing after a pair to have this happen I feel so let down

More quickly maybe, but not in one afternoon! Of course it is not expected!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 26/08/2018 19:13

I also rubber sole my shoes ASAP, although I'm shocked that yours wore quite that fast!

Lol at adaline and the notion of comfortable shoes. None of mine are comfy when new!! Even my supergas rubbed and chafed. I go barefoot as much as possibl though which probably doesn't help. Currently gritting my teeth to break in a pair of LK Bennett sledges.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/08/2018 19:56

You're not meant to stand up, let alone walk, in shoes like that, are you? You're meant to lounge across a satin draped bed, or something. Like in ads.

Needahairbrush · 26/08/2018 20:01

It’s bloody ridiculous, the company should be ashamed of themselves charging this money for a shoe you shouldn’t ‘walk in’ 🤔. I would 100% take them back.

makeupmaven · 26/08/2018 20:06

goodgirls Actually, for Louboutins, it is. This is readily available information, and clear or red soles are always advisable prior to wear. Always research before purchasing high-end designer items.

Honestly, I would not recommend Louboutins for work or daily life. Manolo, Gianvito Rossi, Aquazzura, would be much better.

AdoraBell · 26/08/2018 20:27

Dundee do you think Manolos would accommodate bunions of monstrous proportions?

dundee12 · 26/08/2018 20:59

I don’t know I’m afraid as I don’t have any, my feet aren’t particularly narrow though & Ive never had any problems.

Re the rubber soles, I remember buying my first pair of Chanel ballet pumps & the advisor told me to wear them lightly & then have a rubber sole put over the leather one, more bloody expense!

bsbabas · 26/08/2018 21:25

Where is the best place for a black stiletto that doesn't completely wreck your feet? I'm always in ballet pumps and sandals or boots. Need some decent heels.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 26/08/2018 21:30

You are not meant to walk in them!

They are what I call "taxi shoes"!

ArnoldBee · 26/08/2018 21:31

High end shoes are not meant to worn outside unless you do something to protect first- ridiculous I know!

Poptart4 · 26/08/2018 22:03

I really don't understand paying 500 quid for a pair of shoes and having to pay extra to have them re-soled before you even wear them.

Id be devastated to spend that kind of money for that to happen the first time i wore them.

stopgap · 26/08/2018 22:07

I’ve got about ten pairs. The heels last because I only wear them to restaurants and such, but the flats do not wear well. I prefer Nicholas Kirkwood and Prada for high-end flats that last.

Confusedbeetle · 26/08/2018 22:10

Oh this is hilarious. You pay that amount of money for a pair of shoes that need a 40 pound red rubber sole so you can walk in them . Now I have heard everything. Thank god I havent got money to burn. Also in my opinion the red soles are really naff. You have to brag you have lanoutin shoes. They are not even fit for purpose

BlancheM · 26/08/2018 22:26

I thought they were for sitting down or shagging in but even so, they are a bloody pair of shoes so you would hope they could be used as a pair of shoes. If the brand recommend resoling before use, why don't they do it themselves? They're charging enough.

Bluelady · 26/08/2018 22:28

I think the red soles are gorgeous. I only wish I could bring myself to spend the money on them.

EggMayonnaise · 26/08/2018 22:29

AdoraBell. If you have bunions, suede is the best fabric as it gives the most. Try Manolos or Jimmy Choo.

AdoraBell · 26/08/2018 23:18

Thank you Egg I have always avoided expensive shoes but will look at suede options.

MsSquiz · 27/08/2018 07:47

I got mine in July, have worn them twice and my soles look like yours. (Both times we were "going for dinner" but the had to walk a good 10 mins from bar to restaurant first!) uneven surfaces meant mine have worn way quicker than I expected, but I did expect it to happen. (I am also very heavy footed) so I will be sending mine off to get the red rubber soles ASAP.

Both my Louboutins and Choos are extremely comfy for me to wear (in all their 5 inch heel glory!) and the quality of the shoe itself is excellent. The soles are not made to look perfect for their lifetime, especially on wet, uneven ground.

adaline · 27/08/2018 08:07

I don't get what's so amusing about recommending that people buy shoes that are comfortable?

I can't imagine walking into a shop, trying on shoes that rub slightly on my heel or toe or whatever, and choosing to buy them anyway. To me, that's a very odd thing to do.

I do work in the outdoor industry though and we recommend nobody buys boots or shoes that are uncomfortable because the last thing you want is to be in pain from blisters and up a mountain with no way to get home but walking.

Yes, some discomfort will disappear as you "break them in" but how do you know it won't just get worse and worse? Then you're stuck with shoes that cause you pain and you can't return them because they're still fit for purpose, they just don't fit you properly!

EmUntitled · 27/08/2018 08:41

Take them back and ask for a refund. I would be annoyed if my £40 Clarks shoes looked like this on first wearing, let alone shoes which cost more than 10x that amount.

If they "recommend" you buy rubber soler to go over the top these should be included in the price and the shop assistant should make it clear that "by the way these shoes aren't actually designed to be walked in". Disgusting.

P3onyPenny · 27/08/2018 08:51

But they surely aren't fit for purpose. You must surely be eligible for a refund. Really interesting thread. Why would anybody pay that much money for shoes that hurt and have a shredded sole after the first use?ShockPrimark shoes would be better than that.

pinkmagic1 · 27/08/2018 09:01

Like the above poster said, Primark shoes would last longer than this.
Absolutely disgusting after one wear.

ScreamingValenta · 27/08/2018 09:05

It's ridiculous you buy a product and are then directed to another service in order to pay to make them usable.

This. The usual rule is 'you get what you pay for' - not here, it seems.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 27/08/2018 09:06

Op you’re wearing them to work!?

P3onyPenny · 27/08/2018 09:32

I'm really shocked how cheap and trashy CL shoes look.
