AIBU to expect better quality from Christian louboutin

Sarahrose21 · 26/08/2018 16:23

Finally treated myself to my first new pair of loubotins (had an inheritance windfall and after 2 years of mature student study have finally got my first job in chosen profession so celebrating) paid 495 for them and wore them for a grand total of 4 hours and now the red laquer on the soles is completely peeling off
So disappointed after many years of listing after a pair to have this happen I feel so let down

Wow! I wouldn't ever be in the market for a pair but surely they are sold as shoes not slippers so therefore aren't fit for purpose under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, previously the Sale of Goods Act.
Anyway, even for 'car to bar' footwear 4 hours before the sole peels off sounds like taking the piss to me.

ComedyBoobs · 26/08/2018 17:14

I have a few pairs & the shoes do damage very easily. I decided that louboutins are not for outdoor use HmmGrin

Bluelady · 26/08/2018 17:16

The more I think about it, the more incensed I am on your behalf. The whole point of spending mega bucks on something is that the quality is great. I'd take them back.

RomanyRoots · 26/08/2018 17:19

YABU buying designer labels doesn't equal quality, just that your prepared to be free advertising for them.
It's a known fact they aren't quality.
My dc made a song and dance about school coats once, they had to be super dry, the zips broke on both during the first week.

TruffleShuffles · 26/08/2018 17:19

I would take them back to selfridges or if you live near a stand alone shop there and see what they say. It’s very much known that the paint wears away and it’s best to add a rubber sole but I’ve never seen anything like that. I haven’t bought any for a couple of years though so maybe the quality has reduced since I’ve purchased mine, it’s never happened in that sort of peeling effect in any other designer shoes I have had though.

The purse forum has a louboutin section, it might be worth having a look on there to see if anyone else has had an issue like that.

dundee12 · 26/08/2018 17:31

I’ve always found Louboutins so uncomfortable & hard RachelAnneJ, whereas Manolos are like gloves.

Aeroflotgirl · 26/08/2018 17:32

That is what I thought with these high end designer brands, good for decoration, rubbish quality. My Uggs or Calvin Klein shoes would never do that, even my ASDA shoes, rubbish.

Needahairbrush · 26/08/2018 17:33

What a massive rip off. I’d Take them back and ask for a refund saying they’re not fit for purpose if they’ve only been worn for 20 mins.

bellsbuss · 26/08/2018 17:34

I've got 2 pairs of boots and 4 pairs of shoes and they have never peeked like that

Madbengalmum · 26/08/2018 17:36

I have loads of pairs, some years old and have never seen anything like that. The red comes off from scuffing and scratching but never like that.

ChangerChangerson · 26/08/2018 17:37

They warn that the sole will scuff more easily than other shoes but that's more than mind have ever scuffed.

It looks like weight was put on one part of the shoe and nowhere else as heel looks almost unmarked. Definitely wasn't uneven flooring or a known tread of yours?

PossiblyPFB · 26/08/2018 17:39

As PP pointed out Minuit moins 7 is their recommended cobbler and specialise in CL. They are excellent however I found they took a very long time. This is where I had the ‘official' CL rubber sole put on, had two pairs done at Timsons and other than the branding they appear to be the same color and rubber product. If you take them back I don’t think you’ll get anywhere, the fine soles really aren’t made for walking on pavements and with experience you know this. I made this mistake when I had my first pair, but I didn’t have the peeling- mine were just scuffed and gouged/nicked from uneven sidewalk in London and obviously needed doing after the first wear. So since then I’ve had this done before wearing to avoid the problem altogether.

dmvnqpkejnvejrfnpwdkfjvn · 26/08/2018 17:45

I know it's their signature colour but if it doesn't affect you when you wear them why complain?

Why pay that much money for a pair of shoes that make your feet hurt? I don't get it.

LetsGoBitches · 26/08/2018 17:46

Bring them back and get them resoled....

If your feet were really screaming, bring them back and get a nice pair from Clark’s.

Never saw the point of uncomfortable shoes / labels no matter how hard their owner is trying to fit in with conspicuous consumption.

ChangerChangerson · 26/08/2018 17:47

I don't get it

They're beautiful (to me) and they don't all hurt.

specialsubject · 26/08/2018 17:52

only high fashion aimed at women could get away with flogging painful shoes that fall apart from walked in, even for a few hours. doubt op has been hiking on stony paths!

trading standards?

PossiblyPFB · 26/08/2018 17:54

@changerchangerson agreed- I find the one pair I have with platform soles (only a tiny one, too) uncomfortable, the others without a platform are very comfortable, even the pointy ones.

Sarahrose21 · 26/08/2018 17:54

I love heels, and I just haven't worn any for a while (had a job where heels weren't appropriate and pregnancy made my feet fat so couldn't fit in my old shoes) so these were an extravagant treat to myself and are just taking a while to break in, I knew the red sole is delicate, the rest of the shoe is very fine and well made but was not expecting the sole to peel so fast, still not sure if it's a defect or just how they wear

SouthWestmom · 26/08/2018 18:36

It's ridiculous you buy a product and are then directed to another service in order to pay to make them usable.

Makes you wonder .

adaline · 26/08/2018 18:44

Why not just buy shoes that fit?! I don't get the point in spending nearly £500 on shoes that aren't comfortable as soon as you put them on!

I sell shoes as part of my job (admittedly not heels) and we always tell customers that if there's any discomfort, to try a different pair as there's a huge possibility it will just get worse the longer you have them on...

crazycolour · 26/08/2018 18:49

Yes, rubber soles!

I was accused of “walking outside” in mine! I had as well!

goodgirls · 26/08/2018 18:52

I'd take them back. They aren't fit for purpose, shoes you cant walk in without wrecking are not acceptable.
I would take them back even if they were a fiver from a market stall.

nailak · 26/08/2018 18:54

Adeline, unless they are trainers all shoes I buy, are uncomfortable for me when I first wear them.
Not because they don't fit though. Sometimes the seam at the top of the shoe will irritate my foot, or the top of the heel will cut in. Then after I break them in then they are fine.
This applies to flats, sandals, flip flops, anything.

Sarahrose21 · 26/08/2018 18:56

I did try a larger size but as I plan to wear them everyday for work then the leather will stretch so while they are snug now (they aren't too tight though) they will stretch out with wear, and heels are uncomfortable as I'm out of practise with them. I know the shoes are ridiculously expensive but I could afford them and had saved abit and besides there's worse things to squander money on than pretty shoes I'm just disappointed with these

OP posts:
makeupmaven · 26/08/2018 18:59

It is expected, you can have a clear sole applied at Harrods to preserve them (ideally before wear though...).

Leather-soled shoes always wear more quickly.
