Rodrigo removed from the B.B. house

I think the meaning of the word has a different meaning in these current times

I personally hate the term and thinknit should be totally banned

But can see why it’s confussing for younger people with it in so many pop songs

Also is BB they kicked Emily out the night she said it once- Rodrigo said it twice and didn't get kicked out- it is like when Jermaine Jackson used the term 'white trash', absolute uproar but didn't get kicked out

WoW I think addressing stereotypes and discrimination will take top of the list when we're talking about black equality. You know, that affects black people's educational, housing, financial and work outcomes. Not white people's 'right' to use the n word Hmm

LardLizard · 25/08/2018 23:56

Oh yes that’s true about Jermaine Jackson

I am not saying we have the right to use the word- I just hate that there are things that certain people can not say yet others are open to say what they want- not just the N word- but when it comes to religion, feminism etc...
Honestly I do not for a second mean bad by what I am trying to put across- I just think the world is going too far lol

BarnabyBungle · 26/08/2018 00:04

I think society is misguided in making words taboo, as by doing so you’re giving power to those who want to cause offence by using those words.

Far better to reclaim words such as the “n” word by applying it differently, and in so doing eroding their power to shock and offend. However, the ‘n’ word has reached such toxicity that I can’t see thus happening any time soon.

bingbongnoise · 26/08/2018 00:04

It can be banned yeah, but that means NO-ONE can say it, including non-whites.

Is that gonna happen? Coz they say it. Anyone prepared to tell non-whites they are not 'allowed' to say it? Wink

Perhaps the older black generations should be more vocal trying to get the younger people to find it unacceptable or we end up with songs like freaky Friday in mainstream pop 😨😨

I listen to Dre and NWA. For the last 20 years. And have managed to not say that word. Because I understand that the reason NWA is called NWA is because they were flipping the narrative. They were called those words. Repeatedly. I don't use the q word either but understand why some gay people do.

The rule isn't, 'white people are banned from saying it'. The rule is, 'don't be a complete and utter arsehole'.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2018 00:17

Oh and I've reported @Xymox1234 for being said arsehole

LardLizard · 26/08/2018 00:18

Sorry AllyMcBeagle but I totally disagree- I think you are thinking too much about that term to be disrespectful to people of colour instead of whites. Let whites have some sort of term lol (this is meant in a joking way btw!)

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2018 00:20

Haha racism Hmm

bingbongnoise · 26/08/2018 00:23

You can present as many straw man arguments as you want MTP, but I still stand by what I say.... either anyone can use the N word flippantly - or NO-ONE can.

Not all this bullshit like 'ahh yeah but NWA can use it, coz they are 'flipping the narrative.' What a load of hogwash! Hmm

If the N word is to be banned, then no-on gets to say it. NO-ONE.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2018 00:26

It's called 'context' big

CornishMaid1 · 26/08/2018 00:26

I don't think the word should be banned completely. The is a lot of history in the word and it is not my place to take that away.

One thing that should stop is cleansing history to get rid of offence. Huckleberry Finn was censored so that the name of the character was changed to Jim.

We can't change the past but need to learn from it. Remove things we don't like and you end up rewriting history.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2018 00:29

It's like the feminist movement taking the phrase "nevertheless she persisted". Meant as an admonishment, taking on as a rallying cry. NWA were called "n wit attitudes" and decided that yes, they would be.

esk1mo · 26/08/2018 00:30

listen, black people have reclaimed the word and use it, boohoo that white people cant use it.

women dont like to be called sluts, rightly so. amber rose has a “slut walk” to reclaim the word. should men complain? “we want to call them sluts too!!”

white trash isnt offensive because white people are not troubled by systemic oppression and are generally in a position of power due to the colour of their skin. white trash isnt a term that white people have fought against for generations.

bingbongnoise · 26/08/2018 00:31

@esk1mo

What a load of utter tripe you speak. ^

esk1mo · 26/08/2018 00:33

you don’t get to decide, fortunately.

bingbongnoise · 26/08/2018 00:33

And who are YOU to say white people cannot use the N word @esk1mo hmmmm? Wink Who made you the terminology police?

And white trash is not offensive?

But the N word is?

Yeah OK then.....

Jesus wept! Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/08/2018 00:33

Well I'm convinced after the excellent rebuttal of @esk1mo and me.

bingbongnoise · 26/08/2018 00:34

YOU don't get to decide EITHER!
