Men who tell you what to wear

He hasn't told me like that yet, but he sends me pics and says this and that would look nice on me. Been seeing him for 2 months, I don't know what to say. What do you think? Warning sign?

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 27/08/2018 17:04

Its not sweet to tell a grown woman.how you want her to dress 2 months into knowing her!
Why the hell would she want to dress like he does?
What is wrong with what she choses to wear?

2 months in and he is trying to change her already thats not sweet its creepy.

Vitalogy · 27/08/2018 17:10

You aren't a doll OP. Don't do anything you're uncomfortable with.

Gronky · 27/08/2018 17:37

Willow2017, I agree that telling is wrong but a nice suggestion doesn't seem odd to me, then again, I'm rather old fashioned.

BlackberryandNettle · 28/08/2018 08:07

Well it would out me right off, I'd definitely run, I'd worry that either

  1. he's an abusive, controlling weirdo who either sees you as 'his' accessory to style or if it's tracksuits etc wants you to look frumpy to other men

  2. This depends on your personality but maybe he's boasting about his taste/stylishness - I'd find this vain and off-putting

  3. He's really into fashion shopping and wants to be one of those couples who shuffles round shops together every Saturday morning then I imagine wash and polish their latest model cars. Obviously being judgemental but I'd find this irritating/vapid/think we'd be completely incompatible

noego · 28/08/2018 08:48

Run like your tampon string is on fire 🏃‍♀️ 🔥

This comment made me laugh so much tears appeared.

Take heed OP

Somanymistakes · 29/08/2018 13:23

I wouldn't run. I would flip down immediately thereby cutting if the 02 supply and extinguishing said flaming string.

No flammable gasses can get past my thighs.
Or inflammable.
Gas proof thighs on this fatty StarStarStar

Somanymistakes · 29/08/2018 13:25

I of course would FLOP.
Not flip.

Attempting parkour would be foolish and futile at any time in my life. But especially during times of sanpro combustion.

Electrack · 29/08/2018 13:27

I ignored this warning sign when I first met my ex. Do not make my mistake. This is not benign.

hellsbellsmelons · 29/08/2018 13:35

I think it's sweet. He's thinking of you. There are some doom mongers on this thread!
Ahhh... bless you.
So young and so niaive.
If a man ever does anything like this to you - RUN!!!!!

TwoBlueShoes · 29/08/2018 13:41

My money is on he’s getting to you dress like his Ex who he’s still obsessed by.

First it will be the clothes, then the hair and makeup. Seriously creepy!

plumstone · 29/08/2018 14:01

Unless his name is Tom Ford and he is providing you with a made to measure wardrobe of couture and accessories that work with your current lifestyle, and he is prepared to replace every season - run for the fucking hills!!!!!

OutPinked · 29/08/2018 14:23

Yup, huge red flag. My abusive ex regularly would tell me things I felt great in didn’t suit me despite receiving compliments from others. He would wipe the lipstick off my face for example saying it was tacky and would try to direct me to things he felt I should be wearing.

Run, quick.

Somanymistakes · 29/08/2018 15:09

@TwoBlueShoes

I wondered that too. But thought I had doom mongered enough to say it. Wink

Anniegetyourgun · 29/08/2018 15:44

Vertigo, wasn't it? James Stewart being unusually unpleasant iirc.

Vitalogy · 29/08/2018 16:08

Yes it was Anniegetyourgun made her dye her hair too.

TwoBlueShoes · 30/08/2018 00:35

Yeah, one day you’ll be in town wearing your tracksuit with your hair extensions and you’ll run into her and it will be like looking in a mirror.

delphguelph · 30/08/2018 00:46

Ex told me I was 'allowed to dress really sexy'. That's nice, a la Mrs brown.

So what did I do?

Didn't dress sexy.
Dumped him.
