AIBU to think that everyone can bite their toenails

Settle a debate. I’m not saying I do or have. But if you chose to bite off your toenails could you?

I can barely reach my toes. My stomach gets in the way.

WilyMinx · 23/08/2018 02:37

I think I am still able to do this but I won't.

Noboozeforme · 23/08/2018 02:58

Nope.

I do yoga and pilates - but can't touch my toes. I'm pretty flexible too but obviously not in the hips !

topcat2014 · 23/08/2018 06:50

My 11 y/o can do this.

Meanwhile, I could probably not get within a couple of feet of my feet :)

grasspigeons · 23/08/2018 07:01

I just gave it a go and couldn't.

I am pretty sure I could have done until I was about 28

Amanduh · 23/08/2018 07:04

Yes I can (not that I want to)

Amanduh · 23/08/2018 07:06

Oh and I’m 32 and 5’9, and not hypermobile

WeirdAndPissedOff · 23/08/2018 07:09

Yes. 28 and just sneaking into the "obese" category, but good health otherwise.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 23/08/2018 07:10

Yes, I've got hypermobility so am super bendy. The DCs are, too, but DH can't even touch his knees let alone his toes.

spidey66 · 23/08/2018 07:27

I haven't been able to do that since I was about 4.

PrincessWire · 23/08/2018 07:45

Yes. I'm 42 and a size 24/26 so definitely not young and lithe. If I'm sitting down I can get my left foot in my mouth but I can do the right one standing up.

I am weirdly proud of this party trick.

CheeseGirl4 · 23/08/2018 08:23

I've never been able to do it. I'm 47 and have just given it another try, I'm about 12" off. I think it's about joint mobility rather than general fitness.

FASH84 · 23/08/2018 08:35

I could, although it'd be more challenging at the moment (6 months pregnant), but why on earth would you 🤮

kittykarate · 23/08/2018 08:40

I'm about 12" off, maybe more. It's definitely something to do with flexibility and mobility in your joints rather than fitness.

When I touch my toes I can be palms flat on the floor - I just have a lot of mobility in that direction, and next to none in the ones that require you to open you hip like a door. Causes me a lot of problems horse riding.

Yes! Well, I could but choose not to! Am 53 ...

CornishMaid1 · 23/08/2018 08:45

I don't think it is a weight/fitness thing. It's all to do with flexibility - you can be larger, unfit and still flexible - I am and could do it if I wanted (the thought of putting them actually in my mouth is gross), but DH is skinny, fit but not flexible in the slightest and he can't get his foot anywhere near.

fishonabicycle · 23/08/2018 08:46

And am not very bendy

Foodylicious · 23/08/2018 08:48

Nope.
But if they chose to, my 4yr old son and 40yr old sister could

LilMadAgain · 23/08/2018 21:19

Nice mix of bendy and unbendy folk here :D can anyone explain opening the hip like a door though please? (I'm bendy but daft it seems Hmm)

GerdaLovesLili · 23/08/2018 21:20

Yes! But my left foot is easier than my right. Not as bendy as I used to be at 52!

cmlover · 23/08/2018 21:22

noo my fat belly gets in the way

cmlover · 23/08/2018 21:23

saying that I am pretty flexible for a fat bird. but still can't do that

stillnotTheDoctor · 23/08/2018 21:24

Er, no. My kids can and do 🤢 but they're hypermobile

theunsure · 23/08/2018 21:24

I can’t and never have been able to!
Am 40 now with a chronic knee issue-but even before that I lack flexibility sadly.
I think it depends on your shape as well as joints tbh
