To ask for your breastfeeding in public experiences?

Currently BF 3 week old DD2. I avoided BF in public with DD1 as much as possible due to anxiety about how people would react, but this led to me doing ridiculous things like feeding her in a toilet so I've decided I'm going to be braver this time.

How did you find BF in public? Did you get any unkind looks or comments? Did you use a cover or not?

I never used a cover, but I did use a 'boob tube' around my tummy as I was very self conscious about people seeing my flabby tummy! how strange....

Currently BFing DD1 who is 19 months.
I have NEVER. used a cover.

In the early days I found I felt more confident if I had some "retorts" ready to go before I patched her on... things like "yes I do have to do this here but you don't have to watch do you"
"No more disgusting than your opinion dear"

I would cycle these responses in my head whilst DD nursed.

I have never once received a comment feeding my child on public. I have never used a single if my awesome comments!

Clearly my resting bitching face puts people off! 😂

Whenever I see a mum BFing in public I give her the warmest smile I can manage, and a tiny nod of approval.

If everyone did that it might discourage the frowners that still unfortunately exist among us.

OP glad it’s helped. It is so freeing once you get confident enough to feed anywhere.

My rule of thumb is very straightforward. If you would bottle feed there, then you should be able to breastfeed.

So I wouldn't feed in a swimming pool, no, because it doesn't mix well with food/drink. But virtually everywhere else.

It was definitely the only thing on my mind when I was breastfeeding my babies Verbena87!

I've been feeding my DD whose 7 months in public loads
No one ever commented.

She's a wriggler and comes off loads to look around since she's been 4 months!
I keep a muslin handy to cover my nipple when she does come off (she usually does it at let down which means I squirt everywhere 🙄😂)
I tuck a corner under my bra strap so it hangs down beside her face but not over her head as she hates that
It covers the top of my boob and when she comes off it hangs down over it

I also found meeting up with the local BF group really helped my confidence.
Having other mums around you doing it in the early weeks was great.

Soy I draw the line at random 9 year olds

Fed mine out and about, wherever I needed to really - never used a cover, never had a negative comment, had a couple of older ladies comment that it was lovely and reminiscing about their own babies. They were nice times.
