Form a political party:

  • stop Brexit
  • prioritise housing
  • impose at least 50% tax on all inheritance
  • impose second home taxes

And other stuff. But they should be IN CHARGE now. They need to rise up and sort things out.

I keep telling my DC but they are too busy on instagram. AIBU?

OP posts:

I do agree that the inheritance thing is only an issue due to house prices. If your parents house is worth 2m & you get 1m to buy a 1.3m house you no richer in reality then if their house was worth 500k & you get 50k to buy a 250k house.

Sar51 · 21/08/2018 18:13

50% inheritance tax bill - do fuck off

Racecardriver · 21/08/2018 18:16

I'm and millenial. I welcome brexit. I don't know what you mean by prioritising housing, are you being hopelessly vague in purpose. A 50% IT would really screw me over. Even more taxes on second homes would also interfere with my medium term plans. And I absolutely would not trust the vast majority of my generation to be in charge. The majority are self absorbed navel gazes who don't understand what it means to gave real responsibilities.

Racecardriver · 21/08/2018 18:18

Those of us who do care are chilling with the cool cats at the iea or down at the Liberal club. The rest are busy engaging in student politics and embracing communism and antisemitism. Do you seriously think they should be in charge?

LaLaLanded · 21/08/2018 18:20

Another millennial here. A bit busy holding down a full time job and raising a child. But thanks for the offer.

P.s. you can get a bowl of avocados in Peckham for a pound. Very useful.

RedToothBrush · 21/08/2018 18:20

millennials will be in charge when they are middle aged.

I thought middle aged was 35 to 55.

There are lots of millennials who ARE ALREADY middle aged.

longwayoff · 21/08/2018 18:22

Racecar. That may be so. I seriously hope that you will never be in charge, you have some very antisocial views.

Hazardswan · 21/08/2018 18:23

racevardriver forgive me for my ignorance but why do you welcome brexit? And is that a brexit with no deal or with a deal? Or no preference?

Givemeallyourcucumber · 21/08/2018 18:26

To the poster who said we can't be trusted to get out of bed in the morning...

That's my dream. To sleep. A good night's rest.
I am a 'millennial' (such a stupid phrase) I am 30 years old with responsibilities... I would love to stay in bed.

Are you getting us confused with 15 year olds?

Hazardswan · 21/08/2018 18:28

^^ yes this give

wheezing · 21/08/2018 18:30

Erm there already is a tax on second homes. It was put in place by George Osborne.

It’s a really crappy tax because it means if two people own homes or want to own their own homes they are penalised for getting married.

Metoodear · 21/08/2018 18:36

Young people do indeed get their shit together

Stop fucking on tv for fame and money
Stop buying coffees and going to wanky festivals so they buy a bloody house
And realise you don’t get to be an actual soclisit just because you have fo dread locks
If you don’t have a job then your feckless not a eco warrior or any such thing

RedToothBrush · 21/08/2018 18:57

Its amazing how many people are totally unaware that there are 38 year old millennials out there with professional high pressure responsible jobs and kids (the cut off is vague so its really anyone aged 18 to 40).

Hazardswan · 21/08/2018 19:05

While the OP is BU sorry if noone has actually told you yet OP

I do think its true that right now everyone does need to step up and say something, sign a petition, go on a March i can't but if you can maybe you should or speak to their local MP.

Aw12345 · 21/08/2018 19:11

Hate the term "millennial". How can anyone possibly talk about a whole generation in 1 sweeping generalisation?!

Some are rich, some are poor, some black, some white, some academic, some practically skilled, some tall, some short, some are drs, some are cleaners, some are married, some are single, some are introvert, some are extrovert. How can you possibly summarise a generation in a word?

Laiste · 21/08/2018 19:34

ThinksTwice sorry, bit late:

Gen Z 1995 - 2012
Gen Alpha 2013 - 2025

ThinksTwice · 21/08/2018 20:25

Generations are weird. To think someone born in 1995, so now 23 could have anything in common with my 2009 ds who is currently 9 is really odd.

My ds's experience growing up will be completely different to someone currently in their 20s yet they will be branded as the same "generation."

Kind of like my 80s/90s upbringing being branded the same as those who are now just out of being teens? It's odd.

Generations go more in waves of 6/7 years then they change. In this case comparing the life of a 37 year millennial to a 22 year old one is worlds apart. One will be most likely senior at work with little or no uni dept and/or bringing up kids whilst the other might be fresh out of (expensive) uni into work and just starting out real adult life.

LemonysSnicket · 21/08/2018 21:21

So, the emerging adults should do it? Why not the established adults with money, time, no or few young children?

Also a 50% inheritance tax and second home tax would fuck me in 10/15 years. Why would I want that?

LemonysSnicket · 21/08/2018 21:32

And @happypoobum I am both a millennial and a Gen Z... so where do I stand?

Tartsamazeballs · 21/08/2018 21:46

Older millennials don't want inheritance tax, generally we're not that poor. It's the younguns that have struggled.

Younger millennials don't want inheritance tax, that's their only chance of getting a house.

Housing market is undefuckable at this stage I fear without causing a lot of instability.

RedneckStumpy · 21/08/2018 23:35

OP to get me on board you would need to:
Scrap inheritance tax
Lower VAT
Lower income tax
Sort out fuel pricing and road tax

(Reduce public expenditure accordingly)

Reintroduce conscription/national service
Make MOT’s less strict.

I’ll think of a few more.

twistanddoubt · 21/08/2018 23:44

This anti-Brexit propaganda everywhere especially on MN is really, really tiresome.

Stop fucking telling us what to do!!

We had the vote and we voted how we wanted - as you voted how you wanted. OK?

You voted one way, others voted differently. Fucking grow up and get over it.

Genevieva · 21/08/2018 23:44

There is a lot to be said for scrapping inheritance tax and replacing it with capital gains tax, like they do in Australia. There isn't any logical reason why the transfer of assets should be treated differently when someone has died, compared with when they are alive. The changes introduced by George Osborne, which discriminate against people who don't have children or a house, are so obviously wrong that something needs to be done.

twistanddoubt · 21/08/2018 23:45

Hazardswan · 21/08/2018 23:46
