In relation to a 10 week old baby?

Crunchymum · 21/08/2018 12:39

What is your objection exactly?

TheViceOfReason · 21/08/2018 12:40

Because "are they a boy or a girl" doesn't trip off the tongue as easily?

BertrandRusselI · 21/08/2018 12:40

Just put a pink bow in it’s hair if it’s a girl or make sure it wears a blue jumper with a football or a tractor on it if it’s a boy.

JLG19 · 21/08/2018 12:40

YABU.

PurdysChocolate · 21/08/2018 12:41

It's just one of those basic conversational questions people ask. How sweet! How old. Boy or girl. Is it your first. Are they good.

Redgreencoverplant · 21/08/2018 12:41

Is it being asked full stop you don't like or just the wording of the question?

knicksfan · 21/08/2018 12:41

Which is it

sexnotgender · 21/08/2018 12:42

YABU. What exactly is your objection? There’s very little else to ask in relation to a tiny child, they’re not very interesting to other people.

overmydeadbody · 21/08/2018 12:43

YABU

What's wrong with asking that? Are you annoyed that they cannot tell?

NonaGrey · 21/08/2018 12:43

They don’t care which sex the baby is.

They are just showing an interest and checking which pronouns to use.

Why does it bother you? It’s a fairly normal question.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 21/08/2018 12:43

They're just trying to make conversation. Ive always been asked this with my boys as all our baby stuff is in grey and browns. If people are trying to be nice and show an interest what are they supposed to ask at just a few weeks old - is it walking yet? What's it's favourite book?

QueenOfMyWorld · 21/08/2018 12:44

I usually ask what is your little ones name so I don't fuck up 😁

Zoflorabore · 21/08/2018 12:44

It's often hard to tell with new babies as they sometimes look like old menGrin

Meh, people are being polite and making conversation. There are bigger things to worry about than this op.

Yaasshun · 21/08/2018 12:44

I just feel it’s a question usually aimed at a dog but perhaps it was the wording that annoyed me more than anything. Il just put it down to my oversensitve hormones. Grin

Are you offended by the 'it' or by the fact that they are asking you to confirm their gender identity at 10 weeks old? Either way YABU

Optimusprimesmother · 21/08/2018 12:46

My dds always got called boys up until around nine months because I choose gender neutral clothes. It started to grate on me by the end!

It’s funny how the default setting is - it’s obviously a boy if they are not dressed in pink and glitter Hmm

sexnotgender · 21/08/2018 12:46

What the heck is a gender identity?

Pretty sure the question is in relation to the child’s biological sex.

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/08/2018 12:46

People ask all sorts of banal questions about babies, I can’t see why you’re so worked up about it?

BananaToffo · 21/08/2018 12:48

I am going to start a business selling signs for pregnant women to wear:

DO NOT SPEAK TO ME. DO NOT MAKE SMALL TALK OR SHOW AN INTEREST. I AM A SUPER SPECIAL PRINCESS WHO WILL TAKE OFFENCE AT ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING.

TwoBlueShoes · 21/08/2018 12:48

You’re definitely being over sensitive.

I have twins. When they were babies, I got asked so many times if they were twins. I wanted to say, “No, I’m just borrowing this one for the day.” but it’s just people making conversation and it is nice they make the effort.

Yaasshun · 21/08/2018 12:49

Good luck with that one Wink

Also, my daughter was referred to as the wee man by random strangers until she was about three. She once told me that a woman had told her that she looked like a boy but was dressed like a girl, what are you? by a woman. I was Shock but she thought it was funny.

BigBlueBubble · 21/08/2018 12:52

It isn’t always obvious when babies are tiny. People are just making conversation, it’s one of the things you tend to ask new mums, along with weight and age. If it bothers you just dress your baby in pink/blue or something equally obvious.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/08/2018 12:52

If i was speaking to you that is exactly what i would ask (if i wasn't sure) because it is a normal conversational gambit. Or i might ask how old? Is it your first? These are just ordinary conversation mechanisms.
