To have screamed and my arse shoot to the other end of the bed..(light-hearted picture of spider included)

So there I was mumsnetting away, minding my own business when I hear a scuffle above my head, I think "what was that?"

The scuffle noise continues...I think "WTF WAS THAT?!"

I then look above me to see the beast looking down at me!

Now I'm not normally scared of spiders, but this one made me screech and vault to the bottom of he bed faster and higher than a Russian national pole-vaulter on performance enhancing drugs!!

The dog upon hearing my screech came to my rescue, but the 55kg mastiff in his bravery decided to "sniff" the spider and has now squished it 🙈 I think he has now eaten it 😳

So in short WIBU to have screamed and lept away in horror 😂

Fucking hell, I would be moving house after that if the shock didn't kill me first. No way would I be calm enough to take a picture either.

9amTrain · 20/08/2018 23:02

Why the shit did I open this thread?

Yabu!!

and why do I have black curtains, bedding and carpets?!

UpstartCrow · 20/08/2018 23:03

Fuck me thats a big one.

Old Ddog used to catch them then come up wanting a kiss for bravery Envy

happymummy12345 · 20/08/2018 23:05

Honestly, if it was me and that was in my house, I'd have been out the door and down the stairs, and that's at absolute best. Being downstairs would have been hard enough for me with that there.
So the fact you only went to the end of the bed tells me you deserve a medal or something.
The smallest thing and I have to get dh to get rid of it.

9amTrain · 20/08/2018 23:06

Seeing it has made me want to move out of my own house 😥

Where can I go?

HeckinGoodDoggo · 20/08/2018 23:07

Woah that’s a biggie

Betsy86 · 20/08/2018 23:08

Omg i dont even know why i looked Shock im on edge all the time at this time of year and cant cope at all with getting a spider.... i need a dog....

MillieMoodle · 20/08/2018 23:08

THAT IS NOT A LIGHT-HEARTED PICTURE OF A SPIDER. Fucksake OP Shock

I am glad you have lived to tell the tale though. I would not be sleeping in any room where that had been on my bed.

WhatWouldCoachBombayDo · 20/08/2018 23:09

I whatsapped DH who is working away just "Help!!" But then realised as I'm pregnant he would probably freak out immediately so took a picture of the spider and sent it to him 😂 he called and said...just burn the house down we will claim in on insurance!! Haha.

I've never moved so fast in my life! I didn't even know a "house spider" could get that bloody big!!

Its twin is on my living room curtains behind me. I've named it George. Blush

SteviaStephanie · 20/08/2018 23:42

What the hell..........

Keep the spider gobbling dog with you at all times. Its mate might come looking for revenge!

SteviaStephanie · 20/08/2018 23:43

Actually on second thoughts, send your spider guzzling hound to me just in case please!!

GrumpyOldMare · 20/08/2018 23:46

Wow,he's lovely!

SecretRed · 20/08/2018 23:57

Fuck. That.

I'll not sleep tonight after seeing that pic! Poor you, I've gone all itchy now.

LilMadAgain · 21/08/2018 00:01

LilMadAgain · 21/08/2018 00:03

He was the size of a satsuma but I'm assured that no willy rubbing took place as he passed away in the water bowl Sad

SD1978 · 21/08/2018 00:09

Ah the joys. I love sending my dad photos of huntsmen spiders (Australia) usually after I've screamed, cried, and calmed down enough to take the photo!!!

StopTakingAllTheGoodNames · 21/08/2018 00:14

YABU for not posting a pic of your dog!!! I have a bullmastiff.... let us see 👀
I had one of those massive spiders climb through my window and actually hit the ground with a thud!

CSIblonde · 21/08/2018 00:33

House spider? More like some freaky hybrid surely? Its massive! Very brave to stay long enough for a pic OP. I'd be as far away as humanly poss, after 'bravely' sending in the cat. She's rather partial to spider snacks.

safariboot · 21/08/2018 00:54

Fuck me I would have done the same. The giant house spiders always make me jump.

Zoomzoomzoomzoom0 · 21/08/2018 01:02

Sweet baby Jesus 😣😣
That's me awake with the lights on for the night

CheshireChat · 21/08/2018 01:13

Aaaahhh, why did I looooook?! I'm terrified of spiders, react badly if bitten and live next door to a fruit and veg shop so I'm convinced I'll get a tarantula from the bananas one of this days ShockSad.

That's huge. To add insult to injury my cat doesn't give a toss and only hunts flies because the kid is scared of them. Little traitor, I should feed her less!

DrPeppersPhD · 21/08/2018 01:19

Nope.

ALongHardWinter · 21/08/2018 03:06

OMG that's a big one!

holidaycountdown54321 · 21/08/2018 04:22

We used to get a lot of these beasts in my parents house at this time of year. One time I had one appear on my curtain right at the side of me, I ran off to get my dad to remove it (as I always did). Just as I'd calmed myself down I look up and there's another one!!! It was slightly BIGGER so I knew my dad hadn't lost the first one and lied he's got it (as he often did when he couldn't catch them). It was clearly Mr spider's gf looking for him, so yeah watch out 👀 Mrs spider might not be far away and the females are usually bigger!
