So there I was mumsnetting away, minding my own business when I hear a scuffle above my head, I think "what was that?"

The scuffle noise continues...I think "WTF WAS THAT?!"

I then look above me to see the beast looking down at me!

Now I'm not normally scared of spiders, but this one made me screech and vault to the bottom of he bed faster and higher than a Russian national pole-vaulter on performance enhancing drugs!!

The dog upon hearing my screech came to my rescue, but the 55kg mastiff in his bravery decided to "sniff" the spider and has now squished it 🙈 I think he has now eaten it 😳

So in short WIBU to have screamed and lept away in horror 😂

We squished one tonight as he merrily stalked over the living room floor (It's that time of year)... cruel? Maybe! But I'm not keen on popping them outside unless we drive them 5 mile away 😞

That one could have pushed you out of bed and tucked itself under the covers Envy

I think it probably knows kung fu. And wears hobnailed boots. And I think a missile strike on your entire street is necessary.

I was reading my 2yo a bedtime story with a bloody big spider sat on my lap! I had no idea until he suddenly pointed at it. Not wanting him to be scared of spiders I got up reeaallly slowly, muttering on about how the spider wanted a story too, blah blah blah. It still makes me shudder now and is so far my proudest parenting moment Grin (it was absolutely massive)

😱

Very grateful to both of my spider eating cats!

Wishiwasa · 21/08/2018 07:27

Aha! That's what happened to the spider I made my DH remove from the bath and put outside OP Shock

Givemeallyourcucumber · 21/08/2018 07:42

Oh dear god! How dare it!
I had one of these spiders in my hair once. I felt something tickle my neck and assumed I had a stray hair... Nope it was it's leg. I had to flip my head down so my hair dangled down and flick it around until it fell out. It was fucking huge! DH was too afraid it get it and it quickly ran up into the fire place. I cried for an hour and DH had to climb in and trap it.

Well done for getting a photo OP. You definitely get a gold star. Or some sort of payment reward from the government for serious, most greatest bravery!

It's a giant house spider, harmless and probably male. At this time of year the mating season begins, so males come out of hiding to look for females! Smile

He was in my bedroom last year. Lovely boy. Grin

Oh my word. I’m going to have to wear shoes around the house all day after seeing this thread.
I had one just like that last year and had to get the neighbors eight year old son to remove it. I gave him a large bag of sweets as a thanks.

WhatWouldCoachBombayDo · 21/08/2018 12:57

Today I have encouraged our cat in to the bedroom to scout out any more before I return lol!

I think if a spider that big was in my hair is pass out from terror, I don't mind them on surfaces, but not me...that would be the end of me.
