AIBU to get pissed off with all the Autumn and Winter "cosy" people

Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

Out of all the seasons, I actually hate autumn

The end of summer makes me very blue. Darker evenings, back to school, the weather turning - I hate it. Spring seems to far away.

I’m down south, and love summer

BuntyII · 20/08/2018 00:27

I adore Hallowe'en and the lead up to Christmas. Late October - December are my favourite months, then January is a bit shit but along comes beautiful spring. Summer is dreary and gets tiring, it seems to last longest of all the seasons, I like the feeling of change and newness you get with autumn and spring.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/08/2018 00:44

Last winter lasted 7 months where I live. It felt endless. We went straight from "summer" into winter last year, then straight from winter into summer this year.

Mummy2aRockstar · 20/08/2018 01:10

I'm actually on the fence for this one. I love the sunshine and long days of summer but hate the humidity. Curling up in fleecy pjs with a big mug of hot chocolate is great for the first few weeks but after a while I miss not having to wear 6 layers everyday to keep warm, although I'll never miss peeling myself off the leather sofa this summer Confused. Yay for warm days and cooler nights Grin

chaoscategorised · 20/08/2018 01:11

I got all my jumpers down from the top of the wardrobe today. Can't bloody wait - lighting the fire, frosty cold catch-your-breath mornings, dark snuggly evenings, everything having this gorgeous muted grey tone, warm clothes, hearty food... I'm sorry OP, I will always love autumn and winter more than anything! Even the rain and the cold (and I say this as someone who has awful circulation and has to sleep in 2 pairs of socks in winter - I'd rather that that sweat the night out anyday...)

HelenaDove · 20/08/2018 03:28

"(To the winter lovers, not the OP) Don't forget that we had an extremely generous helping of winter this year, the last snowfall was less than half a year ago, have you forgotten already? Are you all really desperate to have all that back, are you consumed by greed"

Did the snow last for 8 weeks straight like the heatwave did?

its not the autumn lovers who are consumed by greed.

AltheaorDonna · 20/08/2018 04:15

I love summer so much I moved to Oz. So we are just coming to the end of winter here, and I can't wait for beautiful blue skies and sunshine again! We basically have a few months of rainy weather here for winter, and the rest of the year its pretty sunny, and I FUCKING LOVE IT! I hate wearing socks, no longer own a proper coat, and can't wait until its warm enough for the beach again!

drastard · 20/08/2018 04:59

I love it. Windier for sailing. Muddier for cycling.

I miss my motorbike commute as I swap it for the car but I enjoy all the seasons.

GnusSitOnCanoes · 20/08/2018 05:13

I live in the Middle East. The temp can be over 50, and humidity is 90% most days. Roll on winter. We have about six weeks until the weather breaks, and I can't wait to be able to sit in the garden with Wine and not get heat stroke.

GnusSitOnCanoes · 20/08/2018 05:14

Also; I miss autumn more than I can tell you. Blue sky but a crisp wind, the changing colours. It's my favourite season (and non-existent here).

Oliversmumsarmy · 20/08/2018 06:21

No but the grey skies and bitter cold lasted for 10 months

wanderings · 20/08/2018 06:59

This. It ran on and on, perhaps with a brief bit of sunshine in March.

Just for fun, I did a search for "Ugg" on this thread: lots of "snuggling" references came up, but not the boots so far. My DH has said (perhaps jokingly) that he wants a pair, and they look really comfy, and they must be good as they're so popular - perhaps I'll buy him some for Christmas, with the strict rule that he never wears them outside, on pain of being made to wear them to work!

BroomHandledMouser · 20/08/2018 07:16

We’ve only just arrived for our summer holidays on the Isle of Wight! I love autumn but it can piss of for another month or so yet, I’m not quite ready 😂

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 20/08/2018 07:18

I always look forward to the cosy Autumn and Winters!
Getting snuggled up with my family under a big blanket, watching Christmas films. Winter walks. Nice warming meals! Just perfect!

Reality is - kids are climbing the walls because they have been cooped up all day, those lovely winter walks are full of the kids moaning they are cold. The nice warming meals are actually no different to any other meal time, 1 of the kids wants something different, 1 will have a cold so doesn't want to eat and the youngest wants to see her handprint on the wall in form of gravy!

No, YANBU Grin

SerenDippitty · 20/08/2018 07:52

I get really annoyed with the people who go on about the magic of snow and sub zero temperatures when it then transpires that they don't have to commute to work.

I suspect most of the cosy autumn/winter people are in this category.

Getting up and coming home from work in the dark is shit.
My office is so bloody overheated that you can’t actually dress for winter. If you put on a jumper you’ll be boiling.

I don’t mind early autumn - had a September wedding - but it is generally ruined by the ever earlier encroachment of Christmas. Also Halloween and Bonfire Night seem to have merged into one long PITA.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 20/08/2018 08:26

YANBU. I'm on maternity leave this year so I'll actually get to be outside in daylight hours but I hate the dark mornings and nights. I love the idea of Autumn, and always imagine myself wrapped up in jumpers and long scarves, drinking hot chocolate and walking through crisp piles of leaves. In reality it's just battling through wind and rain to do the nursery run in the dark, getting to work in the dark, getting soaked on the way to nursery again, having to push the buggy through more wind and rain etc. I hate it. This summer has been great - I've spent most of my afternoons at the local park with DDs pals from nursery. There's a wee coffee stand there and always loads of other mums and dads to talk to and we always bring a picnic. In autumn and winter there's no coffee van and it's often too wet to play.

This! The weather leading up to the heatwave was truly miserable.

I can feel my mood plummeting as autumn approaches and it won’t pick up til spring brings the promise of summer being on the way.

Stuff “snuggling and cosy” I have freezing rugby and netball to look forward to. “Snuggling” on the sofa wearing shed loads of fleece and under a blanket and still being cold. Grey wet and miserable weather. Soggy slippery leaves. Mud.

SoupDragon · 20/08/2018 08:42

Petty rare here too. More usually grey and damp.

NigellasGuest · 20/08/2018 08:45

I love Autumn, and the run up to Christmas. But January, February and March are absolutely dire and the worst part of the year.

Spudlet · 20/08/2018 08:47

Amateurs, the lot of you, with your 'I hate summer' and 'I hate winter'. The True Brit can find reasons to moan about all kinds of weather. [practices miserable face]

RiverTam · 20/08/2018 08:49

Soup maybe that depends on area, I certainly don’t have any feeling that autumn is a grey season (London), well, not September and October anyway.

Still, at least this thread makes the point that those of us heat haters don’t actually spend the rest of the year moaning about the awful weather as was so often staying on the summer threads. We love it!

Ratarse · 20/08/2018 09:20

What a FABULOUS summer this has been! I don't think I have been on so many walks and I've been to loads of places I didn't know existed as we've had the time to properly explore places. A full wash washed and dried in a couple of hours, more energy, the kids haven't been bored at all and we've had loads of opportunities to use our leaky tent Grin

Winter makes me miserable, I really suffer as soon as the temperature drops due to a medical condition. Long live this beautiful summer and here's to many more! Wine

SoupDragon · 20/08/2018 09:23

I’m south London and I do :)

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 20/08/2018 09:29

And what is it with the endless references to hot chocolate? it's disgusting and over-sweet, in my opinion.

Alicatz66 · 20/08/2018 09:29

SheWoreBlueVelvet ... you are my soul mate !!
