Would you throw this leaflet away?

I'm in the process of starting my own cleaning business, and I just wanted to ask, if you got a leaflet through your door from a cleaning company, would you throw it away with all the other stuff or contact them if you needed a cleaner?

Just trying to figure out what's the best way to advertise. Thanks Smile

To be honest I throw all leaflets without a glance - not sure if I'm typical or not though. I assume some people must respond or no one would use them.

argumentativefeminist · 17/08/2018 12:50

I'd throw it away without looking at it much. Maybe try Facebook? Local "gossip girl" pages, local news magazines.

9amTrain · 17/08/2018 12:51

I rarely look at leaflets.

NoSquirrels · 17/08/2018 12:51

Depends if I was looking for a cleaner or not.

I throw 99% of stuff through the door away. Every now and then, I hang onto one (hedge trimming, dog walking, activity my DC might be interested in, whatever) if I think I might be interested in the short-term future.

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 17/08/2018 12:51

I think Facebook is probably your friend. It's free, people can share your posts, leave good reviews, people can easily contact you day or night.

If it were me, I'd save the printing costs and spend a couple of hours coming up with some good Facebook posts instead. Get slick free images from unsplash.com or use an app like Word Swag to create images with text overlaid. You can schedule posts in Facebook, so you could set up one for every day of the week if you spend an hour doing it every Sunday or something. You have to post regularly to start showing up on people's newsfeeds.

OutPinked · 17/08/2018 12:52

I recycle them all without looking. I will look at political ones and sometimes laugh depending on which party it is but that’s about it.

I would advertise on FB (your local community’s page in particular). Social media is the way nowadays then word of mouth from there.

KlutzyDraconequus · 17/08/2018 12:56

The thing with leaflets is you have to give one to someone already looking for the service you offer.
No one is going to pick your leaflet up and think,
"Actually, yes, I would like a cleaner"
When the thought had never crossed their mind. Iyswim.

Need to target your ads to people who have need.

madhatter1965 · 17/08/2018 12:56

99.55% of the leaflets will go in the bin - but 0.05% of people will either keep it for future use or call/email you. So for every 2000 leaflets delivered you get 1 person contact you - not necessarily book.

Leaflets work better in you post them to the neighbours of the house your cleaning, say 2 - 3 doors either side.

You're far better advertising via Facebook and Google AdWords (although will work out to cost a fortune if you do it yourself - it's a mine field).

Also make sure you get a website - 1 and 1 are a cheap, drag and drop, DIY.

Hope this helps

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 17/08/2018 12:57

Very probably, I’m afraid, we get so many round here.

madhatter1965 · 17/08/2018 12:58

Sorry poor maths 99.95% will go in the bin - 0.05% will respond

SoyDora · 17/08/2018 12:59

If I was in the market for a cleaner I’d keep it. If I wasn’t, a leaflet wouldn’t suddenly make me think ‘ooh a cleaner, what a good idea, I’ll go for it’. But that’s true for most forms of advertising I guess.

LongSummerDays · 17/08/2018 13:00

Advertise on Nextdoor.com. We use it for events, recommendations, lost dogs, anything that neighbours may be able to help with or would like to know.

Leaflets get discarded in recycling.

Bella898 · 17/08/2018 13:00

The problem with leaflets is unless you happen to get it in the door at the exact time that you're looking for a cleaner, it will probably just go in the bin.
Everything is online these days. The majority of people when deciding that they want a cleaner (or any other service), will take out their phone and Google cleaners.
Therefore I'd suggest investing in Google adwords- it's all about making sure your company shows at the start of a search.

NerrSnerr · 17/08/2018 13:00

I'd throw in the bin and google/ ask for recommendations if I need a cleaner.

ShatnersBassoon · 17/08/2018 13:00

I would look at it because we very rarely get leaflets through the door.

No one is going to pick your leaflet up and think, "Actually, yes, I would like a cleaner"

I'm not so sure about that. Lots of people don't seek out services if they don't know where to start looking, or will only give it thought if the idea is put to them.

exexpat · 17/08/2018 13:01

We get too many leaflets offering cleaning, gardening, babysitting etc - I only read them if I am currently in the market for those things, but in general prefer to ask for recommendations.

You would probably do better on Facebook or nextdoor.com, if there is an active page near you.

theunsure · 17/08/2018 13:03

I rarely look/keep leaflets but actually found my last cleaner that way. So it can work but I usually prefer electronic these days.

Racecardriver · 17/08/2018 13:03

I have employed one cleaner and met with another this way in the past. Put your hourly rate on the leaflet.

PolkerrisBeach · 17/08/2018 13:03

I have a cleaner - I'm your target market. Would never hire someone from a leaflet, only through personal recommendations.

Timeoftheseason · 17/08/2018 13:04

Straight in the bin. Lots of people ask for cleaner recommendations on local Facebook groups.
Can you start with offering a few offers to get people to employ you in return for reviews online?

LightDrizzle · 17/08/2018 13:04

I’d pick up on it if I was looking for a cleaner, but I’d also look in the windows of my local shops. Have you tried that? It is probably cheaper.
Good luck! I have a good cleaner and she makes our lived so much better.

CSIblonde · 17/08/2018 13:04

I keep useful leaflets in a plastic zip pocket in a drawer OP as you never know when they'll come in handy: as tradesmen/cleaners etc are often local which i see as a huge plus & it saves me a Google search. I often pass them on too. Definitely worth doing. Also Gumtree is where I found a cleaner for my boss at work (he's single, clueless & lives in sticks).

MaintainTheMolehill · 17/08/2018 13:04

I would look at it. If I needed a cleaner or your prices where less than I expected, it would tempt me.

I would however ask around and if no one had heard of you/used you/knew you, I wouldn't book.

Tessliketrees · 17/08/2018 13:05

I'd look at it because we normally exclusively get take away leaflets so I would want to see what it was.

My friend recently (well about 9 months ago) started an ironing business and did well from a leaflet run of around 250, it kick started things for her.

Poloshot · 17/08/2018 13:08

I don't look at any leaflets through the door they go straight in the bin
