Would you throw this leaflet away?

I'm in the process of starting my own cleaning business, and I just wanted to ask, if you got a leaflet through your door from a cleaning company, would you throw it away with all the other stuff or contact them if you needed a cleaner?

Just trying to figure out what's the best way to advertise. Thanks Smile

I would look at the leaflet. If I needed a cleaner or was thinking about it I would keep it but if not would throw it away.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/08/2018 18:02

I throw leaflets away, unless they have glaring spelling and /or grammatical errors, in which case I outline the errors and post to the address - if there is one - in an unstamped envelope

Really? That's classy! Hmm

Knittedfairies · 17/08/2018 18:04

A postcard in the newsagent’s window? Very old-school, but not expensive either.

crazycatgal · 17/08/2018 18:14

I'd throw it away, we get so many leaflets and take away menus around here that I get pissed off.

Weepingangels · 17/08/2018 21:05

I would chuck it sorry, i hate unsolicited mail. I use my local fb site for my village for recommendations. I did get a great gardener from my local shop, he was a local and they held dome flyers for him there. Worth a try?

John4703 · 17/08/2018 21:12

We got a leaflet through our door advertising a cleaner and the timing was perfect and we asked her to clean for us.
She did a great job the first few times then did little cleaning so we told her not to bother and got another cleaner.
The point is that we needed a cleaner when the leaflet came through our door so we employed her. Timing is essential.
Do you have nextdoor.co.uk ? It is more local than Facebook and might help you to get started.

TheChineseChicken · 17/08/2018 21:19

I employed my cleaner due to a leaflet through my door. Just depends if you catch someone at the right time when they are looking

MervynBunter · 17/08/2018 21:21

Leaflets all get binned without being read in our house.

BackinTimeforTea · 18/08/2018 18:24

I look at them but never save them so i would spend money on a website and making sure you come up in google etc.

BackinTimeforTea · 18/08/2018 18:25

Yeah agree I’d google ‘my town cleaners’

AnnabelC · 18/08/2018 18:38

Direct marketing does work. You only need to communicate with locals because you wouldn’t want to travel too far. It’s cheap printing . Make sure it’s striking and do a leaflet drop until you have enough customers. Facebook page is good. Make sure you have recommendations. Paying to be on a cleaning directory online. In the end it will be word of mouth, if you are reliable and do a good job.

dorisdog · 18/08/2018 19:07

Interesting. I used a removal company that put their business card through my door. They caught me at the right time. In a world of electronic spam, I might actually pay attention to a nice leaflet.

NoobThebrave · 18/08/2018 19:07

We get so many we just stick them in the recycling. Even if it was a bad day and I was fed up with the mess and a leaflet made me think "ooh I need a cleaner" I would go to local FB pages for personal recommendations. I would say try and do a few freebies for people you know or cheap offers to get some references behind you. I think from friends experiences also be very clear what you offer/they expect! Some people I know have a cleaner who does set standard jobs in a tidy house ... another seems to expect her cleaner to plough her way through the family clart, clean, iron etc and/or do a big job e.g. clean oven, which I think is unrealistic in the time, she moans the woman isn't thorough Confused

Everhopeful1 · 18/08/2018 19:08

Some leaflets are so dreadful I don't look at them much, but if you offer lots of different services, ie one off clean, oven cleaning, ironing, end of tenancy clean, regular weekly/fornighlty clean then get it all in the leaflet
The more info the better!

Ron247 · 18/08/2018 19:19

You could register on a website like www.ratedpeople.com/find-quotes/

manicmij · 18/08/2018 19:41

Would try recommendation from someone first then Facebook with reviews of service. Not impressed with leaflets, save your money.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 18/08/2018 19:50

Most of ours goes in the bin. Also, I would never use a service that only had a mobile phone number. Don't trust them.

Growingboys · 18/08/2018 19:59

Throw it away. I would rely on word of mouth for a cleaner.

FullOfDoom · 18/08/2018 21:34

I keep leaflet that I think will come in hamdy

CityFarmer · 18/08/2018 21:55

I'd look at it.
But not action it. Like most, i google search most things and services these days

Cleaningismything · 18/08/2018 22:45

Also, I would never use a service that only had a mobile phone number. Don't trust them.

Which is exactly why I won't be putting my mobile phone number on the leaflets, will get a landline number and business email, and put that as my contact details on the leafletsSmile. Thanks again everyone for your suggestions Thanks

@Ron247 great site! Just had a look, thank you! Smile

I think with a cleaner, you really want to have a personal recommendation - so could you start cleaning for a couple of people you know and let it go from there?

Thatssomebadhatharry · 19/08/2018 08:51

Facebook is the way. Some local selling groups allow people to advertise. My local neighbourhood group allows ads but not direct selling. Join as many as you can in your area. Also you could make a meme type post, find a royalty free picture of a messy house etc and add your details, then add Tag someone who needs this.

MadameGerbil · 19/08/2018 09:11

I second church newsletters. Cost me £10 a quarter. Only advertised for a year. They scan old editions and post online so got repeat business since 5 years previous!
