To think pregnant ladies should be able to use parent and child spaces?

As I get bigger and bigger everyday, I am finding it harder to get out of normal parking spaces without knocking the door and potentially scratching someone's car.

So, would you be miffed if you saw a pregnant lady (with no outside the womb children) using a parent and child space ?

(I understand you could park somewhere where a space is free next to you, but you don't know if someone is going to park there while you're gone...)

Only if obese people are also allowed to use them.

Pickleypickles · 16/08/2018 17:02

You can.

Neverender · 16/08/2018 17:02

Pregnant women are allowed to use them.

Bobbiepin · 16/08/2018 17:03

You have a child with you. You can park there.

NameChangeEverydayLOL · 16/08/2018 17:03

@Bluelady are you really comparing obese people to women bringing new life into the world?

Wow.

They aren't legally enforceable. Anyone can use them.

Zcarter · 16/08/2018 17:04

I did at the end of my pregnancy I had spd and found it difficult to walk xx

ChipmunksAreMissing · 16/08/2018 17:04

What about if you're obese and pregnant? Grin

Eminybob · 16/08/2018 17:05

Anyone can use them

Bluelady · 16/08/2018 17:05

Isn't size the issue in both cases?

MoggyP · 16/08/2018 17:06

There has been quite an outbreak of these threads recently.

And no matter how many are started, I continue to think that no, it is not reasonable for anyone other than a person with a small child (or overspill blue badge users if all disabled bays are full) to use those bays.

If you are heavily pregnant, you'll find out why pretty soon.....

MidnightAura · 16/08/2018 17:08

I know a couple who did this and when they were asked where their child was they would point to the woman’s stomach.

My local supermarket used to offer expectant mother spaces which must have caused an uproar as they were closer to the store than parent and child and sadly the disabled spaces.

MrsL2016 · 16/08/2018 17:08

I always parked in spaces that had one free next to me but like you say you can't guarantee someone won't park next to you, or how considerate they will be when doing so. But I was always too afraid to use parent and child because I knew they weren't meant for me. I wouldn't mind if I saw a heavily pregnant women using a p&c space but I do get annoyed when I see a car without a car seat in it. Lots of people that have no children use them just because they are closer to the shop and don't seem to care. I think if they were at the back of the car park they wouldn't be abused and I need them for the extra space to get car seats/children in and out, not because of their proximity to the shop.

runningkeenster · 16/08/2018 17:09

No it's not reasonable and you could park somewhere away from other cars.

Although I think technically you can use them as you do have a child. But the point I think is to make it easier for people to manoeuvre babies out of car seats etc. Not just to provide larger spaces for people in oversized cars.

runningkeenster · 16/08/2018 17:11

I agree.

JynxaSmoochum · 16/08/2018 17:11

I did. I'm short and had a huge bump so had to open the car door fully in order to contort between the tight gap between my seat and the steering wheel. After 5 months someone parking reasonably close to their line would have left me unable to get into the car as crawling through from another door was not viable. I also developed SPD quite early so traipsing across the car park in the hope that no one would block me in at the back would add on several minutes of additional pain. As it was, I reached my maximum pain threshold of going around a supermarket at 34 weeks and no longer fitted behind the steering wheel at 37 weeks and couldn't leave the house independently anymore at that point.

Wait4nothing · 16/08/2018 17:12

Our local Asda has expectant mother’s bays near the parent and child bays. I used Asda more when I was heavily pregnant

cravingcake · 16/08/2018 17:13

I did, my bump was so huge I physically had to stop driving around 37 weeks. I couldn’t get out or in my car unless the door was wide open.

I also was fairly fed up in those last few weeks that if anyone had dared say anything to me I would have given them an earful. I didn’t park in those spaces until the last few weeks (around 34weeks).

sue51 · 16/08/2018 17:14

If you need them, use them. I don't understand why people get so wound up about p&c spaces.

JLG19 · 16/08/2018 17:14

Totally agree with MrsL2016. It also annoys me when I see my neighbour people park up in a P&C space and their perfectly able-bodied NT child of around 8 hops out of the car. Why do you need the extra space?! Shops should put these spaces at the back of the car park so they are not abused by lazy CFs.

Zcarter · 16/08/2018 17:16

@MoggyP I found it much worse when I was pregnant then with a baby in all honesty

IAmInsignificunt · 16/08/2018 17:17

I use them with my bump and I’ve used them before when I was on crutches and couldn’t use the disabled spaces.

I’m not really a big fan of them and don’t use them in car parks with reasonable sized spaces - we just park further away where we can open the doors wide for the DC and walk the extra few meters to the shop - but will use them in my local small supermarket carpark because the spaces are so tight I’d have to climb out the boot and that isn’t happening when I’m pregnant...or ever.

DartmoorDoughnut · 16/08/2018 17:20

I did in the last month as I’m a short arse and had a massive bump - seriously I had to move my chair back and open the door to its widest, pregnancy is not glamorous for me! - no one ever said anything to me but I did have a right grump on for that last month 😂

NotUmbongoUnchained · 16/08/2018 17:20

I used them when I was pregnant with both of mine. My spd was so bad I had to use crutches and could barely walk.

3girlmama · 16/08/2018 17:21

I parked in a normal space at the end of my pregnancy recently and there was an empty space next to me. I got back to find a car in the empty space and I could not get back into my car. I cried (hormones) and rang dh to cone and get me. I drove his car home and he climbed into my car but only just managed it.
I think it's perfectly reasonable for a heavily pregnant woman to use these wider spaces.
I'll
