To think pregnant ladies should be able to use parent and child spaces?

As I get bigger and bigger everyday, I am finding it harder to get out of normal parking spaces without knocking the door and potentially scratching someone's car.

So, would you be miffed if you saw a pregnant lady (with no outside the womb children) using a parent and child space ?

(I understand you could park somewhere where a space is free next to you, but you don't know if someone is going to park there while you're gone...)

Rather a pregnant woman than someone with an older child. Asda allows children up to 12 which is ridiculous.

Heavily pregnant women have a legitimate need for the wider space so I have no problem with them using the spaces.

LoughingLikeAShark · 16/08/2018 17:24

I think that with more mothers with GD and/or obese, in addition to the rise in multiple births, bumps can be a lot bigger these days than they used to - if the trend continues I expect more stores may follow Asda's lead. Even just 15 years ago it was very unusual to see a woman with a bump so large it impeded driving.

@Bluelady are you really comparing obese people to women bringing new life into the world? *

In this case I don't see your issue. You say yourself that you have problems getting out of the car and moving around because of your big belly. Why does it matter if it's a baby or fat growing there? I'd imagine that morbidly obese people have the same problems as you at the moment.

Radardetector · 16/08/2018 17:29

What I never get is people sit here and say I use them because xyz. But what do you do if there are no spaces? Do you go home?

I appreciate that it's easier to use the p&c space and I wouldn't care if I saw a pregnant woman using one. But the reason people give are a bit irrelevant unless you actually have to go home if you can't use them.

I actually have a bb and a baby and frequently I go places where neither are avaliable. I can still manage so no I don't have to go home either but I bet there are people that would have to.

Because pregnant ladies literally make the world go round, obese people don't. I thought it was good manners to give way to pregnant ladies because of this?

I never needed to do that, but I did use the 'parent and child' loo in a mall when there was a big queue for the women's loos and I was at the bladder squashed to a teaspoonful stage.Grin

ltk · 16/08/2018 17:31

Do you really NEED to? If the answer is yes, because walking across a parking lot is now honestly painful or dangerous, then by all means. Otherwise use the spots towards the back where there is more space.

Find a dictionary and look up 'literally'.

bridgetreilly · 16/08/2018 17:31

are you really comparing obese people to women bringing new life into the world? Wow.

Are you really saying that the reason for someone's size is any of your business or has any relevance to their difficulty in using a tight parking space?

Wow.

Wow.

Jeez.... I expected thunderbolts and a heavenly chorus with that at the very least.

I dunno, I feel like I’ve been out there on my shift pushing an actual planet.Grin

I wonder how flat earther pregnant women about making the world go round?

AthenaisdeRochechouart · 16/08/2018 17:34

Oh just park where you want (other than disabled space). I always park in Princess&Child spaces in the hope of pissing off a passing Mumsnetter.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 16/08/2018 17:34

You're not pregnant with the next messiah OP. Calm down 🙄

Neverender · 16/08/2018 17:35

The ones that really fuck me off are the ones who park in the space and then leave their nearly teenaged children in the car...absolutely abusing them.

apriljune12 · 16/08/2018 17:35

You can. Anyone can they are not like disabled spaces!

I used one today! I am 50 and have a bad back. There were loads free.

Mammalamb · 16/08/2018 17:35

I did. On the day before DS was born I could barely move without having to pee. So, parked in parent and child space to make a dash to the loo. There were loads of spaces empty. bumped into a friend who was also parked there. She was parked in d&c space as she had her 8 and 12 year old children with her. She gave me a lecture that I shouldn’t park there as I didn’t have a child in tow. Oh how I laughed (and peed myself)

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/08/2018 17:36

I definitely need a little extra door opening room just now... plus on crutches so mobility impaired. I still haven’t used a P and C space without a baby, I think I’d feel a bit guilty.

I can’t say I’d be annoyed about it if I saw a heavily pregnant woman struggling to walk or on crutches using one.

By the way altering the wheel pitch and depth makes a HUGE difference. I honestly thought I was going to have to stop driving at 6m (short legs, T. rex arms, bump measuring dead on for weeks.) but if you adjust it it does give you several extra inches of space.

If you didn’t have a car that allowed you to do that though then yes you could struggle, and it wouldn’t be because of obesity! My bump has measured the exact number of weeks all the way this time and it’s still only because we have a fancy wheel that adjusts that I can still fit in the damn seat...

apriljune12 · 16/08/2018 17:37

Mammalamb

You should told her to fuck off. That would do it

Hmm
Mammalamb · 16/08/2018 17:39

I was too busy laughing at how ridiculous she was!!! Then it was too late and I peed myself from laughing.

apriljune12 · 16/08/2018 17:40

Shame your waters didn’t break in her shoes Grin

Imchangingmyname · 16/08/2018 17:40

I always did, well towards the end of my pregnancy when I was huge. Couldn't get out of my car in a standard size space, couldn't walk far and needed the loo, like, NOW Grin

Anyone who'd begrudge you a space in the latter stages of pregnancy is, quite frankly, an idiot.
