AIBU to be really bloody proud of myself?

I haven't really shared this with anyone in RL yet, because I get a bit embarrassed about this sort of thing. But, under the cloak of anonymity, I'm going to have a bit of a boast.

I got a grade B in A level Classical Civilisation today - and I was just one mark off a grade A overall, with 94/100 in one of the papers.

This was just a 'hobby' and I've really loved the subject matter. I'm flippin' chuffed.

There. As you were.

Oh well done! Fantastic!

smerlin · 17/08/2018 09:10

Well done! Don't send it for a remark though- they don't exist in the conventional sense anymore!

SallyOMalley · 17/08/2018 09:15

How do you mean, smerlin? The information I've been given with my results slip suggests it's a review to ensure the marking scheme has been applied correctly, with an amendment (up or down) to they final mark if not. Is that what you're referring to?

Lovely! www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details/collection_image_gallery.aspx?partid=1&assetid=94089001&objectid=461901 This is my favourite. I love red figure vases. Did you use the book by Susan Woodford - it’s the only school textbook I ever bought for myself as an adult.

SallyOMalley · 17/08/2018 09:34

Ah The Berlin Painter - good choice! Yes, I've got Woodford's book - it was one of my key texts. I liked Boardman too.

I'm off to Kent in September squeal!

Rebecca36 · 17/08/2018 12:22

I think that is absolutely splendid! Well done to you.

Binkytheslug · 17/08/2018 12:57

No, you’re not BU. Be bloody proud of yourself. I’ve been a mature student, and I know how hard the work is. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a hobby or not, it’s the fruit of your labours and yours alone. Dance for joy!

mamahanji · 20/08/2018 11:00

I'm stuck deciding between Ancient History and Classical Civilisation 🤔🤔

DrPeppersPhD · 20/08/2018 13:42

@mamahanji I'm probably biased but CLASSICAL CIV!

mamahanji · 20/08/2018 14:43

Was it mostly art based?

DrPeppersPhD · 20/08/2018 14:59

Mine was mostly text based, I believe the syllabus currently in use has 2 text based units (Homers Odyssey and Virgil's Aeneid), a topic on arts and one on about classical interpretaions of love and romance.

mamahanji · 20/08/2018 15:15

I'm sold. Thank you!

DrPeppersPhD · 20/08/2018 15:32

No problem! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

LemonysSnicket · 20/08/2018 16:22

I loved doing my classics A level! Congratulations!

SallyOMalley · 20/08/2018 19:06

Only OCR offers class civ now. I was in the last year of the old spec with AS/A2s. It's now gone 'linear' with all exams at the end of the second year.

I did 4 modules: Homer's Odyssey and Greek Tragedy in its Social Context for AS, and Art & Architecture followed by Virgil's Aeneid & Homer's Iliad in the second year. My favourite modules were art and architecture and Greek Tragedy. I loved 'Medea'!

Sigh. I've already packed away all my notes and feel quite sad now!

Congratulations

DrPeppersPhD · 20/08/2018 20:00

I did three of those too! My exam board had four modules, six options per module so I ended up doing Women in Athens and Rome and Homer's Odyssey for AS and then Greek Tragedy and Virgil's Aeneid for A2, we couldn't do both the Odyssey and the Illiad, which I'm very glad about because I must admit for all I loved the Odyssey, I hated the Illiad! Had a massive argumemt with my English substitute about it and everything, one of my best memories of College.
