AIBU to be really bloody proud of myself?

I haven't really shared this with anyone in RL yet, because I get a bit embarrassed about this sort of thing. But, under the cloak of anonymity, I'm going to have a bit of a boast.

I got a grade B in A level Classical Civilisation today - and I was just one mark off a grade A overall, with 94/100 in one of the papers.

This was just a 'hobby' and I've really loved the subject matter. I'm flippin' chuffed.

There. As you were.

That's so good! Definitely share in real life. I'm sure your friends will love celebrating with you. Flowers

Bubblemagic11 · 16/08/2018 18:43

Fantastic!! Well done indeed Wine

foodiefil · 16/08/2018 20:43

Well done! That must have taken a lot of bloody work!

DrPeppersPhD · 16/08/2018 20:47

I'm going onto a BA in English Literature Smile I can't wait to start! I had to resit a module as well, I got 64% last time and 100% this time so I'm going to be floating about 8 feet above the ground for about a week!

SallyOMalley · 17/08/2018 06:51

Drpepper - wow! That's amazing! Good work. Where are you off to?

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Well done!

GemmaB78 · 17/08/2018 07:02

Well done! I'd be looking for a remarkable as well, especially given the confusion around the new specifications.

I finished my MA this year: done part-time over 5 years via distance learning. Over that time I met and married my husband, had a child and relocated twice! I achieved a distinction in my dissertation - gobsmacked doesn't begin to describe it!!! Like you though, I found it a very lonely experience at times.

Go on and find another way to study. The OU is excellent. A lot of the MOOCs are designed by universities and are very good indeed.

If you have a local university, see if they have a lifelong learning centre. I know my local uni (York) does, as do both Cambridge and Oxford. They may offer a course in classical studies, etc that would be right up your street.

GemmaB78 · 17/08/2018 07:03

Remarkable = remark! Damned autocorrect.

byanyothernamerose · 17/08/2018 07:11

I have just come across this thread and it has made my day already!! You are wonderful OP...a true inspiration!! Thank you for sharing...Smile

ElfrideSwancourt · 17/08/2018 07:14

Thanks for the tips Sally I'm getting excited about starting now Smile

Orchidflower1 · 17/08/2018 07:16

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Well done- that’s brilliant!

SallyOMalley · 17/08/2018 07:25

@GemmaB78 - yep, I'm on it with the MOOCS. The Open University has a few Classics based ones too. (And we have the same local university!)

I think that's absolutely wonderful! For years I have wanted to learn Latin even at gcse if that's even a thing but where to start when you work full time and live in a small town in the north?

Off yo search Google, you have given me inspiration.

Congratulations 🍾🥂

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/08/2018 07:42

Congratulations! I also think you should consider a remark. Star

BigChocFrenzy · 17/08/2018 07:43

Congratulations, Sally Thanks !

You deserve to be very proud of your achievement.
You worked hard and thoroughly deserved your marks

That's it's such an interesting hobby is a real bonus

ToesInWater · 17/08/2018 07:43

Well done!

fieryginger · 17/08/2018 07:45

That's great! You've actually made me feel and think about doing something similar. I'm a sahm for the last 24 years, I have a severely disabled DS who needs specialised attention, so we have nobody to "babysit" our 18 year old.

You've inspired me op because I'm bored stiff!

Congratulations and well done.

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Ps. You should tell people in RL, they will feel proud of you too.

SallyOMalley · 17/08/2018 07:51

Edison - the National Extension College (where I did this A level) offers a Latin course. It's not towards an exam but it does look good. There is another distance learning option with Cambridge. Our local uni offers it too as part of its lifelong learning programme. (Can you tell I'm considering Latin too?!)

Fiery - go for it! I've enjoyed it more than I ever imagined and I feel it's opened up some many avenues of learning I hadn't thought of previously. I can't see me just ending here. Go for it!

That's brilliant, well done. My dd is doing A level Classics (she'll take her exams next year) and loves it, but it's a hard subject. Congratulations.

RiverTam · 17/08/2018 08:53

Fantastic! I got a B in Classics as well, many years ago, and I love Greek art. I have my favourite vase in the British Museum that I like to go and gaze at every now and then.

GallicosCats · 17/08/2018 08:55

I wouldn't mind considering a Latin refresher course - I got an A at A-level about a million years ago and I find the absolute beginner courses slow and frustrating. Ancient Greek looks interesting but scary. Any suggestions?

GallicosCats · 17/08/2018 08:57

Oh and well done OP. It's way harder to do these things as an adult with limited time and little support.

MajesticWhine · 17/08/2018 09:02

Well done 👍🏼 - inspiring

SallyOMalley · 17/08/2018 09:07

@RiverTam - I utterly adored the Art and Architecture module! I took a trip to the BM to check out the sculpture and pottery (Exekias is my favourite!). Just on my own: no kids, a two hour train journey and a good book. Bliss!
