Title based on what a college professor used to tell us when the going got tough.

"Just remember when you're standing shoulder deep in horse shit, there's a pony in there somewhere. So just keep digging".

As Chris Cuomo pointed out on 'Prime Time' yesterday, this is comparing 'apple's to elephants'. And Trump's campaign got caught violating FEC rules too.Hmm

There is a clip from the Potplant interview where Oaf does his 'I hardly knew him' shtick on Mikey, but I haven't found it. Meanwhile, some more from Ainsley Potplant:

'Paula Duncan, a juror on the Manafort trial, joined Fox News to talk about her experience serving on the jury. Duncan is a fervent Trump supporter, but she appears to have been able to separate herself from her politics in order to do her civic duty on the jury.'

Gumpendorf · 23/08/2018 09:24

Manafort Jury who is a Trump voter/fan says she wanted him to be not guilty but the evidence was overwhelming. Only one juror held out, otherwise it would have been 18 convictions and has interesting observations on the lawyers. It would be hard to justify a pardon though I'm sure Oaf will try.

The fact that jurors are 'selected' and that they can be named and interviewed always astounds me...

I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. “South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers.” @TuckerCarlson @FoxNews

There are so many links now live we need to resurrect the Whiteboard!

This is the Maddow segment explaining the McDougal payment and how the National Enquirer tried at the last minute to regularise the payment. It's also highly amusing.

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 09:36

Me too, lion. Duncan made sure it is known she is an Oaf voter, tooHmm

Gumpendorf · 23/08/2018 09:47

A personal turning point for Mr. Cohen was a conversation with his father, Maurice Cohen, a Holocaust survivor. Mr. Cohen’s father urged him not to protect the president, saying he didn’t survive the Holocaust to have his name sullied by Mr. Trump, www.wsj.com/articles/why-michael-cohen-agreed-to-plead-guiltyand-implicate-the-president-1534987372

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 09:50

I don't know what the whiteboard is, but I agree there is a huge amount to keep up with, Gump. I find it very frustrating when I know I have heard or read something, then can't track it down because I have watched, listened to, and read so much. I think I may be just slightly over invested in this stuffShockGrin

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 09:55

A personal turning point for Mr. Cohen
HmmDid that come before his patriotic turning point, Helsinki; or his financially desperate turning point; or his ain't getting no pardon turning point?

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 10:10

Chris Cuomo clears up the difference between Obama campaign and Oaf violations:

Anniegetyourgun · 23/08/2018 10:18

I sort of wonder whether the pardon issue is a class thing. Like, Manafort is a businessman in the same mould as Trump (i.e. a dishonest one, and not very good at the actual business bit!). They were on a fairly equal footing in the campaign; one the front man, one the background adviser. So Trump sees Manafort as One Of Us; partners in crime, co-conspirators, like-minded, similarly aged, fake-rich etc. People who can be expected to help each other bury the bodies because it'll be their turn before you know it. Cohen, on the other hand, was the hired help, never a partner or anything like it. Once he was no longer directly useful he was out of sight, out of mind. Trump may be aware that he poses a threat but would never stoop to help the miserable little pleader, because he is Not One Of Us. Cohen appears to have recently realised this and it hurts the ego (in addition to the whole going to jail thing). Hell hath no fury like a fixer whose boss didn't care enough to break him out.

Or maybe I watched too many gangster films in years gone by.

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 10:20

frankenstein, re the nature of the campaign finance violations. This is not the clip I was thinking of, but this covers the point, I think - from around 6 mins in:

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 10:23

More like 4.30 mins in for full picture.

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 10:39

The Oaf's 'hardly knew Cohen ' moment with Ainsley Potplant is around 20 mins in. (It is from Don Lemon last night and the whole piece is worth a watch.)

lionheart · 23/08/2018 10:56

time.com/5375650/trump-cohen-trouble/?utm_campaign=time&xid=time_socialflow_twitter&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social

'Michael Cohen once believed he would lead Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

When that didn’t come to pass, he told friends he might be White House chief of staff. That didn’t happen either, but still he swore he’d “take a bullet” for Trump. In the end, the President’s longtime personal lawyer stood before a federal judge in a New York City courthouse on Aug. 21 and swore to something else entirely: that he had engaged in a crime coordinated by the man who now sits in the Oval Office.'

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 11:11

That is some interesting musing, Annie. People who can be expected to help each other bury the bodies because it'll be their turn before you know it That is something of value in the trumpiverse. I think Cohen had a very different view of their relationship than the Oaf did. He was just a useful pawn to the Oaf. As lion (I think) pointed out earlier, Manafort is in another category, he is Russia's boy and that could be the keySmile

ohmymimi · 23/08/2018 11:12

cozie has gone very quiet since the toast incident!

Gumpendorf · 23/08/2018 11:28

I think I may be just slightly over invested in this stuff

You and me both ShockSmileGrin

The Whiteboard (my iPhone capitalises this for some reason) emerged when loads of facts about Russia started to emerge in spring *2017 ish. Someone posted links to an e-board, I think. It suits my way of processing info because I need to make links and sense of the bigger picture. I think it's one reason I like Maddow so much.

*just over a year ago and yet it seems to be in another lifetime. Hmm
