I've never had any sort of procedure and if I'm honest was very much against it until recently. Turns out two of my friends have had botox and actually, it looks really good and has turned my head. I used to consider it as putting poison into your face but am now looking at my wrinkly forehead and thinking maybe. What are your experiences of it? Am I being niaeve that it always looks good?

I haven’t used it before but definitely will once I start getting wrinkly. I know two friends who have and it looks great - really natural and not at all frozen faced.

Ansumpasty · 15/08/2018 08:56

I haven’t had it but if I thought it would make me happy then I would.

A friend of mine gets and she looks natural and amazing.

The key is to go to somewhere extremely reputable, where a dr or prescribing nurse administers it.

fourplusonemore · 15/08/2018 08:56

I haven't got to the point of needing it yet but once I do, I'll use it. We have a wonderful aesthetician locally who has worked on friends and they don't look frozen or fake, just lighter and brighter versions of themselves.

Merryoldgoat · 15/08/2018 08:58

I know someone who looks utterly bizarre after having it and another who looks great.

I think the important thing is to go somewhere reputable.

holycityzoo · 15/08/2018 08:59

I have it and love it. Mine is very natural and when I've told people I've had it they are very surprised.

youarenotkiddingme · 15/08/2018 09:00

I'm not against it. But for a different reason.

My ds need it at some point to treat his CP!

It seems a wonder drug that can do so much!

MrsJayy · 15/08/2018 09:01

I can imagine botox isa bit like pringles once you start you can't stop it isn't natural/fresh looking to have a shiny forehead but I think if women are happy with their look then crack on. I don't think people should kid themselves on that it looks subtle and natural it doesn't because ageing womens faces are supposed to have a wrinkle here and there.

MrsJayy · 15/08/2018 09:04

I saw a thing on telly where a teenager with cerebal palsy had it also it helps bladder weakness a few women in agroup for my disability have had botox for their bladder,

cariadlet · 15/08/2018 09:12

I used to consider it as putting poison into your face

That's exactly what it is. Normally people try to avoid botulism. Deliberately injecting yourself with a poison that causes paralysis sounds crazy to me.

btw I hadn't realised the connection between botox, botulism and sausages until I read "The Etymologicon" - fascinating little book.

Thehop · 15/08/2018 09:14

I love it. Been doing it since I was 30. I figured it was a prevention rather than a cure and now only need it once a year. I’m 40 now and no wrinkles. (Though my mum says it’s because I’m fat not because of Botox!)

Do heaps of research, only let a qualified nurse do it, get recommendations and take a free consultation

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 09:14

I get it around my crows feet. Makes me look less tired and I love it.

BitchQueen90 · 15/08/2018 09:16

I'd have it if I felt I needed it. You can have it done where it looks natural because my DM has it done with a doctor - it doesn't get rid of all her wrinkles, it just softens them out and stops them looking so deep. She still has wrinkles!

70sShow · 15/08/2018 09:18

I've had it 4 times in 9 years - not an evenly spaced time frame.

I didn't have too much and went somewhere reputable.

I've been happy with the results 3 of the 4. The one I was unhappy with was simply because after a week or 2 I didn't think there had been enough and had a top up. All fine after that.

It's "poison" in the same way that you couldn't drink many vaccinations injected into children without serious side effects. Describing it as such shows a seriously limited understanding.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 15/08/2018 09:18

One of my colleagues is trained to do BOTOX and various fillers (we're nurses). She said it tends to look unnatural because most people start having it too late. I didn't even realise she has it herself and she's only 30. She only has a bit though. Everyone I know that's been to her looks natural, no frozen expressions or anything.

Each to their own I say, I might consider it but not at the moment.

MaggieAndHopey · 15/08/2018 09:19

I think I look good for 40 - a few fine lines but they don't trouble me. I probably wouldn't consider botox or fillers because I wouldn't want to set a precedent for myself - I imagine it's not the sort of thing most people try just once. Then you're out hundreds of pounds every few months to maintain your appearance.

ErictheGuineaPig · 15/08/2018 09:21

Not something I'd ever consider. I'm quite happy to have wrinkles and look my age. I'm probably in a minority now though, I know loads of people who have it. And fillers. And gigantic false eyelashes.

vivalafrida · 15/08/2018 09:30

It's the absolute shiz.

QueenOfMyWorld · 15/08/2018 09:31

Love it! In fact I'm due next week for mine I have it on forehead and Inbetween brows,I don't look strange I just don't have any lines in those areas,I'm 38 but could pass for 30.I have it every 4 months and it's £180

cloudtree · 15/08/2018 09:35

it is the only thing that actually works. Ive had it for the past 8 years roughly every 8 months or so and it has definitely prevented the wrinkles from forming. I often get comments about how young I look.

MrsJayy · 15/08/2018 09:38

Tbf a botox nurse is going to say it can look unnatural because of xyz they want people to buy it as soon as possible

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/08/2018 09:40

I’ve had it for migraine , privately since I was 31 and didn’t need it . It’s changed my life . I still get some migraines but it’s liyerally a miracle.

Fancyacuppaluv · 15/08/2018 09:42

I must admit I’ve been tempted, but the only people I know who have had Botox, don’t look natural and I’m so I’m too scared to try it!

KC225 · 15/08/2018 09:45

I think a little goes a long way. Good botox shouldn't be noticed. It looks awful on certain actresses and actors but they are using fillers as well. That taxidermy chipmunk look is bizzare

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 09:45

fancy You will know others that have it. It’s just that it isn’t obvious on them.

Piffle11 · 15/08/2018 09:46

I think when administered by someone reputable, who wants the same results as you do, then it's great. I've been getting it for a few years now and love it. The person I go to insists on a natural look, and if anyone wants the plastic look, then he won't do it. My hairdresser goes to someone who, although knows what she's doing (fully qualified nurse), has given her the 'permanently surprised' look. I could tell she'd had it done as soon as I saw her. And apparently she wanted to go further, but hairdresser refused. So I think you need to know exactly what look you want and be prepared to walk away if the person is trying to encourage you to do more. It can be hard to find someone good, as most people don't go around telling everyone they've had Botox!
