I've never had any sort of procedure and if I'm honest was very much against it until recently. Turns out two of my friends have had botox and actually, it looks really good and has turned my head. I used to consider it as putting poison into your face but am now looking at my wrinkly forehead and thinking maybe. What are your experiences of it? Am I being niaeve that it always looks good?

I would really like to try it as I don't believe any cream can really make a difference to wrinkles and I hate my 11 lines. The only thing that puts me off is injecting a toxin close to you brain - not sure if I am being irrational or if that's a valid concern! From what I have read there's not a lot of research on the long term effects of Botox use.

Candolim97 · 15/08/2018 09:48

Less is more, and agreed ^ go to someone reputable

My mum had Botox this year, it looks amazing!! She has never been high maintenance with her appearance and was very nervous it would look too false and obvious, but it doesn’t. Most people haven’t noticed she’s had it done, and the ones who did weren’t sure it was Botox but kept saying how she looked different/younger

MrsJayy · 15/08/2018 09:49

I live in a large village in mid scotland we have a salon and a few in the garden sheds all offering botox so it is really popular everywhere the local dentist owns the salon so that must be where the money is not NHS dentistry.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 15/08/2018 09:52

I've got an appointment booked (with a consultant plastic surgeon) for next week for my '1' area. I'm still flip flopping and can't decide whether to go for it or not. I'm 38.

I'm just terrified that my face will look unnatural and that it will be noticeable.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 09:56

MrsJayy I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure the regulations have been tightened up (see what I did there?!) and it’s only certified clinics that are allowed to do Botox. My nurse used to come to my house to so it which was great, now I have to travel to her.

golddustwoman84 · 15/08/2018 10:06

I had Botox approx 6 weeks ago. Pretty sure I won't be having it again. It did the job ( had one area my forehead done) and yes no more wrinkles but. 1) had a massive headache for about 3 weeks after. Literally felt like lead in my forehead area. 2) lowered my brow so I permanently looked rather cross. My DH kept saying why are you so pissed off? I wasn't literally was my face.

Ollivander84 · 15/08/2018 10:25

I have it. Nobody notices I have it done, started after a long episode of severe pain left me with lines
I'm immunosuppressed so discussed with my haematologist first

marsbarsandtwix · 15/08/2018 10:36

Its a billion dollar industry so there inevitably feels like a lot of pressure on people to do it. imo it's often noticeable but people are not going to mention it as it seems rude? I've certainly seen a number of people look pretty odd with it. Also, you've got to think long term - it may be okay as a one off in your 30s or 40s but by the time you hit 50 and start getting jowly with a wrinkly neck etc you're either going to end up with an odd mismatched face or start getting fillers and other procedures, which is how people start small and end up looking quite odd imo.

9amTrain · 15/08/2018 11:20

Tried it for the first time earlier this year.

It did nothing for my mild static lines! only stopped my from raising my eyebrows. Pointless. I'm 24 and if it can't get rid of my forehead lines now then wtf are they going to look like in the future?

chipswndbeans · 15/08/2018 11:28

It never looks natural despite people convincing themselves and others that it does.

MeMyselfand · 15/08/2018 11:33

@Nicknacky where do you get it done?
I've been looking for someone local that's decent

9amTrain · 15/08/2018 11:33

Actually it can look natural. A lot of the time it doesn't as people go overboard and have too much.

Personally, despite having one session and a subsequent top-up you couldn't tell I had it done. Waste of money.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 11:36

chips it does. If I could I would post a photo of myself. My h and my dad never notice when I've had it done.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 11:39

MeMyself what area are you?

crazycatgal · 15/08/2018 11:39

My DM had botox and I actually didn't know that she'd had anything done until she told me, it was very natural.

On the flip-side i've seen people who actually look quite bad after botox. I think going to someone reputable and not having it too often makes a difference.

Moussemoose · 15/08/2018 11:41

I have a friend who has Botox when she asks how it looks I always say it looks really natural and no one can tell.

I'm lying.Shock

DisappearingGirl · 15/08/2018 11:41

I'd rather not have it myself (no judgement of people who do).

However I feel a bit sad that people who choose not to have it will end up looking old in comparison, if everybody else does. I guess it's hard to expect individuals to fight that battle though.

MozzchopsThirty · 15/08/2018 11:43

I have it regularly and love it
It makes a huge difference to my face and to the amount and severity of headaches I get

I also get dermal fillers every 18m but if I had to choose one or the other it would be Botox for price and difference I feel it makes

9amTrain · 15/08/2018 11:44

Why would you feel sad about people choosing to age naturally? It's not like everyone gets it and a small minority will look old and everyone else looks like Cher.

blondel0216 · 15/08/2018 11:48

I'm 50 and had it done as a birthday present to myself. On the positive it did clear wrinkles on my forehead and between my brows and even more positive it stopped my migraines and headaches for three months which is a miracle.
However on the negative I found my brows looked too low and I had to lift them manually to even put my mascara on, plus you couldn't even see my eyelids!!!
Not sure if that's the same for everyone but it makes me reluctant to return again. It's been 4 months now and I'm back to wrinkles sadly but I can raise my brows and you can see my eyeshadow again! Plus my headaches have returned.
Bit torn whether to go for it again. I did go to a reputable clinic? Has anyone else had the eyebrow problem?

SurlyValentine · 15/08/2018 11:48

I bloody love botox! I had it done three times a year for four years, but had to stop last year because DH and I bought a house, so finances and that...

It can look totally natural. I only told my best friend because she was insisting that I had had something done, and wouldn't accept that it was a new face cream and a few good nights' sleep. None of my other friends said anything other than how well I looked. DH didn't realise I'd had it (and still doesn't know to this day), my DM didn't know, my DB's girlfriend (who usually notices any and every change in everyone's appearance) didn't know. My DB couldn't find his arse with both hands so I never expected him to notice Grin

I am totally getting it done again as soon as I have got the money saved up.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 11:49

blonde That's not normal.

bibizizi · 15/08/2018 11:50

Ive had Botox and filler before, started when I was 38 and exhausted from twin induced sleepless nights.
It costs an absolute fortune though so have stopped now as couldn't justify the expense.
To be honest I looked good but now its all worn off and Im sleeping better I look just as good and my face looks like a normal 40 year old mum of 3.
It made me feel vane when I was having it and a bit silly really, I realise now to be proud of my face and the story it tells and not to submit to societies need to undermine (mainly) women about the way we look.
Botox is definitely a lifestyle choice, it will change the way you look but also the way you act and feel not always for the good I feel.
Thats my story and as I said I don't think Id have it again, I feel so much more positive just being me!

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 11:51

I spend £200 a year, get it done twice in one area.

Dontbuymesocks · 15/08/2018 11:52

@mrsjayy

You mentioned shiny foreheads....
I have Botox in my forehead but it’s definitely not shiny. I think this look, which is often seen on celebs (think Amanda Holden), is caused by the combination of Botox with other treatments like skin peels. Botox relaxes the wrinkles but it doesn’t change the look or feel of your skin in any other way. It also doesn’t rid me completely of lines - they’re still there, they are just less prominent.
