To ask for your opinion on botox

I've never had any sort of procedure and if I'm honest was very much against it until recently. Turns out two of my friends have had botox and actually, it looks really good and has turned my head. I used to consider it as putting poison into your face but am now looking at my wrinkly forehead and thinking maybe. What are your experiences of it? Am I being niaeve that it always looks good?

Botox is one of the most incredible medicines of our time. It can be used to alleviate symptoms of some of the most complicated medical conditions and disabilities there are. It is literally life changing when done well across a massive range of conditions.

My advice would be to find a practitioner who is at the top of their game. This is not the sort of thing you want doing for the cheapest price. You want someone who knows their A&P inside out.

The people who still look natural and wrinkle free at 50/60 more than likely get it done by the best.

shapeshifter88 · 15/08/2018 11:55

@blondel reputable places give you a checkup after two weeks with free topups/tweaks that could have lifted your brows if they had fallen. everyones face is slightly different so it can take twice to find what injection spots work best for you. I go to Harley medical and they always note (on a drawing of a face) how much is put in each area and exactly where, so i can discuss what I liked last time or what id like slightly different.

The shiny is caused by the Botox. Botox prevents sweating, but not the production of oil be the skin. That is where the look comes from not other products.

NorthernSpirit · 15/08/2018 11:57

No no no no. The best looking woman age gracefully rather than pumping their faces full of poison and having a strained look on their face.

FeralBeryl · 15/08/2018 11:57

@9amTrain your static lines should reduce further after another treatment.
Unless they are hideously deep (which is unlikely) I've only ever had a few clients who require a touch of filler alongside their toxin.

You'll find a lot of people still don't shout about having botox. The shiny head crew will shout it from the rooftops like they need to but the majority of requests are to look a bit 'fresher'
I love it as it just means I don't look like I need ironing in the mornings Grin

The poster who had a heavy brow, it's a common feeling for the first couple of weeks, but should lift and settle. If it didn't, it's more than likely down to injection technique. Lots of practitioners fail to assess individual muscle groups correctly.
If you still have a little movement, there are a few tweaks that can be made to reduce this.

Kingkiller · 15/08/2018 11:58

I think it's crazy. No way on earth would I have anything injected into my face for cosmetic purposes. I'm perfectly happy to look the age I am. Those people saying "Nobody even notices I've had it done" - what's the point then?

Confusedbeetle · 15/08/2018 11:59

No Never ever

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 12:01

I assume people realise that it's not just the forehead you can get it? I don't get my forehead done, just my crows feet and it doesn't remove all wrinkles as that would look unnatural but reduces the worst ones.

So I'm def not shiny

Nuffaluff · 15/08/2018 12:01

I have thought about it and decided not to.
It’s too expensive. I have better things to spend my money on.
It’s risky. If it can go wrong on rich celebrities then it can go wrong on me.
It doesn’t always looks as good as people think it does. Women on the TV can’t move their faces properly anymore. A woman I know in real life, now it’s worn off, looks much better with her wrinkles. Her smile can reach her eyes again.
Finally, I know I place far too much importance on my looks anyway. I think about it too much and I’m only getting older. It’s fighting a losing battle. As a woman, that is how I am mostly judged in society. I want to work on valuing myself for the things I can do and the person I am.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 12:02

kingBecause no one knows my face well enough to notice I have less wrinkles.

And frankly I don't do it for other people to notice, I do it for me

9amTrain · 15/08/2018 12:03

@Kingkiller the point is for you yourself to see a difference in the amount of wrinkles you have and feel better about yourself. Most people don't pay much attention to how many wrinkles someone has.

shapeshifter88 · 15/08/2018 12:04

crows feet area has been the best for me. makes absolutely no difference to face movement etc or shortness. i just look like i did 5 yrs ago before the eyes got baggy

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 15/08/2018 12:04

I know two people who have it:

One is late 30s, doesn't have any wrinkles, but neither does she look young or particularly good. It doesn't make you look 19 again.

The other looks her age but has ridiculous bee sting lips that seem to get bigger every time I see her (yes I know that isn't botox but still).

You can't turn back the hands of time.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 12:06

that I don't do it to look younger and I doubt most non celebs do it for that reason. I just want less wrinkles😂

HotChoc10 · 15/08/2018 12:14

Anyone have a recommendation of where to go for it in London?

JaneJeffer · 15/08/2018 12:14

Anyone who thinks no one will notice they've had it are just kidding themselves. I wouldn't say oh I see you've had Botox to someone. But it's up to them.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 12:15

jane You are wrong. You will know people who have had it but you don't realise.

It's the stereotype that people think of and that's badly done.

JaneJeffer · 15/08/2018 12:17

That's what they think!

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 12:19

My husband doesn't notice and he knows me.

9amTrain · 15/08/2018 12:19

Again, not always.

I actually wanted people to notice mine after paying so much.

Did they? No. And I asked outright.

FeralBeryl · 15/08/2018 12:19

@JaneJeffer honestly, if it's done properly - you really can't. Wink
Lots of people retain movement, with just a softening of some of their lines, many people just have it to soften their jawline, to reduce dimpling in their chin etc.
I hate feeling frozen, but I have mine done with brow lift technique which hitches up my eyes slightly so I don't look as shattered. I can still frown, smile with my eyes, raise my brows.
It really does depend on who you go to, and the look you want. Cheap botox is cheap for a reason.
All the ironing board automatons you see either love that look, or have gone to someone inexperienced or cheap.

Nicknacky · 15/08/2018 12:22

And I'm actually missing my own point, it doesn't even matter if anyone does notice if woman feels better in herself.

TheLastNigel · 15/08/2018 12:23

I've had it and loved it. Not one person guessed I'd had it but I did get a lot of people saying I looked well.

bibizizi · 15/08/2018 12:23

I just don't like the feeling it gave me of "OMG Im so glad Im not as wrinkled as her" I felt soooo vane.

Ollivander84 · 15/08/2018 12:39

I look like this with it. I have the bit in between my brows completely frozen and then v light on my forehead
