I popped into Wilko yesterday to stock up on craft bits for 4 year old DS. I grabbed him a 50p roll of masking tape as he likes it for making models and I have to keep getting the tool box out to find it.
He is DELIGHTED. He has spent the last half an hour thanking me profusely. I am the best Mummy in the world and may borrow his masking tape whenever I need to Grin
Tell me I’m not alone in having a little weirdo!

Maybe my 7 year old DS isn't that strange at all then, he also loves a new toothbrush, masking tape (in fact any tape) and sponges - if we go to B&M he loves to run and get a new pack of bath sponges!

Recently we were given a couple of bags of clothes from one of the mums at school and before I got a chance to open them he had them upstairs and everything laid out on his bed. He loves getting things from other people despite now having an absolute tonne of clothes.

My DD (5) was so excited today to have a new roll of sellotape too. But her favourite thing at the moment is a finished tube of facial wash that is her 'air maker' to blow on her face?!?

beela · 15/08/2018 23:24

My dc love the fish counter too! And blue tack / sellotape in their stocking.

DD (4) gets excited about mussels for lunch. DH and ds don't like them so if it's just me and her we have them as our little treat.

PrivateParkin · 15/08/2018 23:25

Lol at the "air maker"! Sounds quite refreshing Grin

Bellaposy · 15/08/2018 23:30

We needed new appliances last year and took our then 18 month old. I was dreading dragging her roumd Currys but her face when she saw the wall of washing machines is imprinted on my mind forever. She didn't stop saying "wow" the whole time.

LoisWilkerson1 · 15/08/2018 23:34

As a toddler my cousin had a favourite fork and knife only he pronounced it Fuck n knife. Look at my Fuck n Knife. I need my Fuck n knife Grin

Thing 1 went to bed every night for about 18 months cuddling his That's Not My Monster book.

Thing 2 found a very small screw on the ferry to France this year, named it his Treasure of All Times and had to have it on his person at all times during our fortnight's holiday.

JaretsGirlfren · 15/08/2018 23:44

toefluff I too had a leaf that I took everywhere with me, I don’t remember his name but he was my little brother Blush he blew out of my hand and got run over.

When my DD was a toddler she loved Sainsbury’s. it was the only place she ever asked to go...

Xxalisoncxx · 15/08/2018 23:50

My sister was obsessed with the stuffing you get in teddy bears, took it everywhere with her. Mums ex partner used to buy her bags of the stuff from sewing shops. Used to stuff it behind her dummy so looked like she had a moustache!

Deadringer · 15/08/2018 23:55

We went to the zoo and spent the day looking at all sorts of exotic animals. We saw a cat on the way home and our DD was thrilled, she couldn't stop talking about it.

Xxalisoncxx · 16/08/2018 00:03

My brother was obsessed with a fluffy pink dressing gown of my mums, as soon as he was gone he’d have the dressing gown. Weirdly he loved it wet, when he was winding me up I chucked it out of the bedroom window on to the roof. I remember next door getting the ladders to get it for him... we’re a weird family

LegallyBrunet · 16/08/2018 00:16

I used to have a thing about the cloth tags on clothes when I was little. Apparently I used to pull my nan’s washing off the clothes horse to get to the tags

anitagreen · 16/08/2018 00:21

When my son was 2 he had a leaf he named Tony. He took Tony everywhere. He even put in next to him in bed. This lasted until Tony dried up and crumbled. Toe this is the funniest thing ever bless his heart

Sammio · 16/08/2018 00:27

I used to collect nice shaped stones from the playground at school and got so upset when my mum wanted me to throw them away when I got home. She ended up giving me an old plant pot to keep them in in the porch and I had to sort through it every school holiday.

Katedotness1963 · 16/08/2018 02:57

We had a blu tack obsessed child too. The youngest had his own Dustbuster when he was about four, he needed it to get crumbs out of his car seat. Every journey out started with him dustbusting the seat. Fast forward 12 years and we spent a couple of weeks in a place that had an old fashioned carpet sweeper, he spent ages sweeping the rugs. Unfortunately he’s not as keen on other chores.

MentalUnload · 16/08/2018 05:05

These are so sweet! Mine love sellotape, straws (we make rockets from them), and rarely sleep without a book or five under their pillow. They each went through a stage of wearing odd socks, which they really enjoyed!

MentalUnload · 16/08/2018 05:09

Alisonc was it one of those super soft fluffy dressing gowns? My boys used to sleep in my dressing gowns while I was away with work. Bless their little hearts. We drew the line at wearing them outside the house, much to their disappointment.

thegreylady · 16/08/2018 05:44

When my dgs was 7 he spent all his birthday money on a huge Buddha which he still loves very much. He rubs its tummy for Luck every morning.

An adorable thread! Tony the leaf wins it for me.

DS loved orange clothes pegs. Aged 18 months he carried one in each hand while in the buggy.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 16/08/2018 07:34

We went on holiday to a French eco village when DD was about eight. When she opened a cupboard door and found a selection of mops, buckets and cleaning products, she was in seventh heaven and was reluctantly parted from them over the next 10 days.

It continued. After her first term at university, she was actually indignant that I had failed to introduce her to Dettol antiseptic wipes, which apparently she cannot live without.

LakieLady · 16/08/2018 07:48

I took my brother to the zoo for the day when he was 7. When we got home, all he could talk about was how fantastic it was to see a rhino having a crap, followed by a long description of the crap - shape, size, colour and the way it landed, perfectly balanced, on the edge of the ditch on the perimeter of the enclosure.

On his 50th birthday, I asked him if he still remembered it. His face lit up!

sashh · 16/08/2018 07:49

LadyMonicaBaddingham

The original meat packing factory, which is in the Uruguay town of Frey Bentos, apparently has a trickle of UK tourists visiting it.

LaPufalina · 16/08/2018 08:08

My 20mo is obsessed with clothes pegs (cheapest toy ever?!). The high point of her week is the ocado man coming Hmm she gives him the bags and swaps for the packing list and does a little jig to celebrate.
She also helps her dad with DIY and does a Shock face and gasps when any box with nuts/bolts/screws is opened.

When my nephew was about three he got a little stocking filler present (costing very little) of a yellow plastic clockwork Mr Happy - about 2" high. You just wound it up and it would do a little walk - that's all it did but he was absolutely delighted with it. He watched it and then would ask, "Again!" and so it went. Its little walk would be repeated again and again while he laughed with delight. The more expensive presents were completely ignored. It was lovely to see his excitement.
