I popped into Wilko yesterday to stock up on craft bits for 4 year old DS. I grabbed him a 50p roll of masking tape as he likes it for making models and I have to keep getting the tool box out to find it.
He is DELIGHTED. He has spent the last half an hour thanking me profusely. I am the best Mummy in the world and may borrow his masking tape whenever I need to Grin
Tell me I’m not alone in having a little weirdo!

BOXES! We had a lot of furniture delivered and the DC went crazy for it. Their expensive toys and the TV were completely igored in favour of these four boxes of varying sizes. They were like cats. My ds ended up turning the biggest into a little den.

But then DH made the mistake of getting in it with all the DC. Bye bye den Blush

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/08/2018 12:30

A Fray Bentos tinned pie Blush

I bought as a nostalgic novelty; I didn't know they still made them.

From their reaction, you would have thought that it was fucking Christmas Hmm

Scoobygang7 · 15/08/2018 12:41

Uncooked rice for him to dig in his tuff tray. That was awesome.

Yesterday's delight was he walked in the kitchen as I was doing the veg for tea. Broccoli mummy are we having broccoli? I love broccoli it tastes soooooooooo nommy.

He's 3.5 I am dreading the day he hates veg.

iamkahleesi · 15/08/2018 12:41

My DD got very excited about being in charge of picking up poo on the dog walk yesterday. She was very disappointed the dog didn't do a poo!

GrumpyMummy123 · 15/08/2018 12:51

When my DS was about 2 he was obsessed by a particular pair of socks. He had two pairs the same out of a multi pack and would want to wear only those EVERY day. Much tantruming if both pairs were in the wash and he had to wear the similar but slightly different colour combination ones instead. They weren't even anything exciting. Then after a few months he forgot and any old socks would be acceptable again!

A door catalogue. Like for choosing a new front door.
We've been reading it to dd (20mths) since spring as if it was just another book. I know the stock photo people so well by now, it's like they're friends 😩

Talith · 15/08/2018 13:13

My 10 year old loves a bottle of fizzy water. It's like the best treat ever. I produce it like I would a bar of chocolate and he's so happy!

SawnUpLooRoll · 15/08/2018 13:17

Not massively weird, but we recently had a new (secondhand) dinner table and chairs delivered. My two (7 and 9) are beyond delighted and insist on sitting at 'the new family table' randomly and giggling at each other across it.

Slightly weirder... my eldest has had a toy monkey since he was a baby. It keeps falling apart, but now its head has come off and he sleeps with the body on one side of him and the head on the other.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/08/2018 13:26

Watching a cat (not ours!) eat a mouse.

"Hurry up Mummy, you're missing the best bit!"

They are both vegans nowGrin

apriljune12 · 15/08/2018 13:29

shockers

Omg my son too! He was 7 and now he’s 28! Still has them and still obsessed with footie Wink

Bellyscreen · 15/08/2018 13:30

My 4 year old was really, really excited about going to the dentist yesterday. I can’t complain, but it’s a bit weird!

blamethecat · 15/08/2018 13:34

Mine loves a dental product, I have to bribe him away from the toothbrush section of boots with a promise of a biscuit (ironically),as he has 3 different brushes already and he was chuffed to find a 'new' toothpaste when food shopping and carried it home. He's 5.

Merryoldgoat · 15/08/2018 13:38

When my DS was about 2 he was utterly obsessed with powder puffs and if we were in the chemist would beg me to buy him more.

He’s 5 now and this morning said ‘wow mummy, what a lovely powder puff you’re using for your makeup!’ but prefers cars now.

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 15/08/2018 13:41

Another one with a kid who loves Ikea FASH84. We can make a day of that shit- look at the furniture, go in all the fake bedrooms, a ride on a flatbed trolley, pick any flavour candle you like for us to burn when we get home, meatballs for lunch and an ice cream at the end after 😆

kmmr · 15/08/2018 13:45

Lol at the door catalogue!!

My son has a plain notebook and pen. Loves it and takes it everywhere. I've not managed to convince him to write anything in it yet. It's been a month, maybe he's waiting for something more exciting to happen!

I do love their joy at simple things. He's got a piece of plastic tat which is a paw patrol badge. The pure joy was so lovely. 'thank you so much mummy! I love it soooo much'. Staring at it lovingly and in shock at its pure wonder.

Totally worth the silly cost of the magazine it was attached to.

xJessica · 15/08/2018 13:48

Getting her grommets operation!
Also feathers and sticks and a tiny bit of slime her friend gave her

CakeRattleandRoll · 15/08/2018 13:53

The bin truck. Every week for the past 4 years. DS is now 6. When he hears it coming, whatever he is doing will be dropping as he races for the front door. One week he was sitting on toilet, naked when it came - he went streaking down the hall and out the door before I could stop him. Not a particularly warm morning either!

He also went through a stage when salad was very exciting. "Thank you soooo much for packing some salad in my lunch. I looooove salad soooo much! Can I have more, please, please, pleeeaasseeee??"

naturistmum · 15/08/2018 13:56

A cycle helmet that my DD got for Xmas when she was 3. She wouldnt take it off all day Christmas Day (all the photos of the day have her grinning with it on). Boxing Day, back on it went....!

lolarocco · 15/08/2018 13:58

Coming home from town on a crowded train around Christmas time when DD1 was about 3.5. someone asked her what she's asked Santa for and she announced to the entire train "Sellotape and an easter egg". She meant a kinder egg but it was funny. And she was obsessed for weeks with that roll of sellotape, totally fixated on cutting up buts of paper and sellotaping them together.

EscapeTheCastle · 15/08/2018 14:01

My DS had a huge interest in vacuum cleaners when he was 4 or so. We could visit the display at Currys for a lovely browse and also look at the see through washing machine they had on display.

So I picked up a vacuum cleaner mini catalogue that Currys had which DS enjoyed very much.

(I'm the same with Ceramic Tile catalogues)

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 15/08/2018 14:10

My DTs loved the fish counter in the supermarket. Every time we went they would get so excited about seeing the (dead) fish! Cheaper than a trip to Sea Life to see the alive fish. Grin

One of my DSs loves the Screwfix catalogue. So exciting, fixtures, fittings, lights etc. Which reminds me of the time I took all of them to B&Q and they had great fun playing with the light switch display.

I know how to entertain my kids.

Yesterday my 14 yo shouted "yes" with glee when we got on a double decker and the top front seats were free. That made me laugh. Though I was happy too, best seats!

PeppermintPasty · 15/08/2018 14:12

Any and all stationery. Paper clips, post it notes, pens, pens, pens.

My ds is 11. He's just got into doodling with art pens, oh great, more expense, because of some geezer on YouTube. He made a pitch for some of these pens which almost failed as I almost fainted away with shock when he tried to convince me that he hasn't any decent colouring pens! We have enough to sink ten branches of WH Smith! Cheeky blighter.

He talked me round though Confused

Yes I’m with him on that!

bnotts · 15/08/2018 14:18

My daughter got Blu tac for Christmas in her stocking when she was 3. So so happy. But Santa got credit

KingLooieCatz · 15/08/2018 14:22

Mister Stony Eyes was a big hit last year. A discarded water bottle with two pieces of grit stuck on the neck by tar that had softened in the sunshine. We still have Mister Stony Eyes.

DS can still get very downcast when he remembers the Christmas that he asked for a Chocolate Orange an didn't get one. We think he must have written it on a Santa list that we never saw. Needless to say, if we'd known he wanted Chocolate Orange for Christmas he'd have got one. He's hardly a grasping child.

Also, we got Netflix purely so that DS could watch old episodes of British Bake Off. He begs to be allowed to watch a bit of series 3 after tea. Not so big on series one and two.
