I popped into Wilko yesterday to stock up on craft bits for 4 year old DS. I grabbed him a 50p roll of masking tape as he likes it for making models and I have to keep getting the tool box out to find it.
He is DELIGHTED. He has spent the last half an hour thanking me profusely. I am the best Mummy in the world and may borrow his masking tape whenever I need to Grin
Tell me I’m not alone in having a little weirdo!

What a gorgeous thread, so sweet Smile

palmtree1 · 15/08/2018 15:37

I also put a pack of post it in each child's stocking this year. The two youngest loved them. Played so much with them after Christmas!

spidey66 · 15/08/2018 15:40

When my niece was small she asked Santa for sellotape in a dispenser and was chuffed with it.

NerdyBird · 15/08/2018 16:10

When dd was 3 she went through a phase of being obsessed with dummies. She would have a tantrum if not allowed to buy one in Boots (I didn't let her!). She would put the doll dummies in her mouth too. The thing is, she never had a dummy as a baby and in fact was a complete bottle refuser until weaning was properly established so we'd not tried a dummy and weren't going to at 7/8 months!

jelly449 · 15/08/2018 16:19

A grown up toothbrush.

My 7 year old dd asked if she could try a grown up tooth brush at Sainsbury's yesterday.

She picked one for £1 and opened it in the car on the way home. She literally thinks it's the best thing ever.

Ennirem · 15/08/2018 16:25

My 18 month old is learning to speak and LOVES a new word or phrase she hasn't heard before, she's quite random about it but the right word or phrase will send her hysterical with mirth and I can literally reduce her to a giggling mess just by saying it over and over. Yesterday the winning phrase was "big lump" (can't even remember the context now) and she was in stitches about it all evening. I love that she can get so much fun out of her new words Grin

secrettobleroneeater · 15/08/2018 16:26

My DD badgered me for years for a pair of crutches from when she was about 8, didn't want to get them for her as I thought it was sort of tempting fate. I gave in eventually and bought them for her, and she used them constantly for months! They were also a big hit with all her friends when they came round, they couldn't wait to have a go! She'll still use them now occasionally (she's 16 Smile)

QuackPorridgeBacon · 15/08/2018 16:27

My four year old gets excited when the toilet roll is finished. Sometimes I will go to the bathroom and it’s finished if the cardboard roll but is missing I know she used the last and took it. She draws pictures on one side (she squashes it a bit to make is slightly flatter) then does squiggles that’s meant to be writing about what she has drawn. She has loads of them now and really enjoys getting a new one to draw on.

When DS2 was 3 he got some lovely Spiderman goggles. Swimming goggles. Wore them for solidly for about 5 months. We didn't half get some odd looks at Hampton Court Palace but the meltdown at Gatwick customs was the highlight of that year.

Fleuried · 15/08/2018 16:45

Live this thread.
Cress. She got crazy excited when we said she could buy some at the supermarket yesterday.
She always gets a toothbrush and toothpaste in her stocking and it's always the highlight of her day.
She also loves getting her own soap.
Her birthday is coming up and she will love a selotape dispencer - thank you for the idea!

Ezzie29 · 15/08/2018 16:48

This thread is so sweet!
I spent months knitting a blanket for my niece altho I didn’t really think she’d be that fussed and was expecting just a polite thank you. Finished it last Thursday and gave it to her when she came for a sleepover Friday - she loves it! Carried it round with her everywhere (and it is big and heavy!) and now it’s home she insists on sleeping with it on her even tho it’s really not the weather for it. So much more exciting than I was expecting it to be!

The cat flap

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/08/2018 16:50

These are lovely - just lovely!

Headinthedrawer · 15/08/2018 16:53

A perfectly ripe mango in her stocking. It was all she had asked for too.

CantankerousCamel · 15/08/2018 16:56

We went to centre parcs and my husband found a small, round, see-through piece of rubber that had obviously fallen off someone’s goggles.

‘Look DS2 (5), it’s an octopuses bum hole’ he said

The RAPTURE!

Until he lost it and we couldn’t find it again.

He spent the next 10 mins standing on the edge of the pool shouting ‘MY BUMHOLE! I’ve lost my bumhole’ at the world.

So funny

Should1stayorshould1go · 15/08/2018 16:58

Belgium

We were talking to DS (8) about doing some touring in Europe and discussing what countries we could visit, what sights we could see….
and he got really excited about the idea of Belgium
we were a bit non plused

but apparently he remembered that I had been on a trip to Brussels years ago and had said they had lots of chocolate shops

DD (4) on the other hand got some new clothes recently and is utterly thrilled that she currently owns 15 pairs of pants.
And will share this fact loudly on public transport

bridgetreilly · 15/08/2018 16:59

A friend's son asked for a smoke alarm for his bedroom for Christmas. He could not have been more delighted with it. I think he was about 6 at the time.

Everyoneiswingingit · 15/08/2018 17:08

One Christmas I 'wrapped' the entrance to the living room with cheap wrapping paper and a few bows. They had to bust through it to see if Santa had been. It's all they told everyone that year, not the presents! they still talk about it now and they're 18 and 14!

Everyoneiswingingit · 15/08/2018 17:10

My niece went everywhere with tube of toothpaste when she was 18mths/2. She would clutch it in her buggy and shun the teddy!

FluffyAnimalsRule · 15/08/2018 17:11

A piece of pink ribbon. DD2 has a bear that she takes everywhere with her. Said bear used to have a ribbon around his neck. She decided one day he didn’t need a ribbon any more so she took it off and cheerfully threw it away.

Three weeks later somebody sent a gift of some kind through the post (can’t remember what the gift was or who it was for) and the gift had pink ribbon as part of the wrapping.

DD2 was delighted that there was more pink ribbon in the house and claimed ownership. But she didn’t use it on the bear. She wrapped it around her fingers and took it everywhere with her for months. Never was there another ribbon anywhere so loved as this bedraggled piece of tat.

It now resides in her bed, next to one of her toy dogs who is tasked with protecting it when she’s not in the house!

PrivateParkin · 15/08/2018 17:21

Great thread - v funny and sweet Grin. My DS is also a fan of blu tack and masking tape - he puts the tape across the door frame when you're in the bathroom so when you open the door to come out, the tape gets all stuck to you (I still find it funny tbh).

When I was little I used to love prodding those packs of meat from the supermarket that are wrapped in tight cling film - they were so squishy and nice Blush mince was my favourite - I used to love it when that got brought in.

Smoothsailing9 · 15/08/2018 17:25

When my DS was about 4 he was obsessed with leaf blowers. We went on a day trip to a safari park and by far and away the best bit was a guy using a leaf blower. He still remembers that, not all the amazing animals 😂.

Racheyg · 15/08/2018 17:28

Ds1 - a new tap for the hose Grin

gttia · 15/08/2018 17:35

Going on the A2 for a school trip. My daughter was beside herself that they would go on a coach on the A2!! I drive on it weekly but somehow being on it with school was soooo exciting

Topsyshair · 15/08/2018 17:39

My ds (10) likes looking in sports direct.

It's the holidays, I asked him what he'd like to do for the day, he tells me he'd like to look in Sports Direct.
