All you can eat child's price based on height?!

I am booking a meal at an all you can eat buffet for Saturday and when checking the prices, I noticed that the child's prices are based on height!

Is this normal?? I don't remember ever seeing this before and it seems a funny way to differentiate!

I've included a screen shot - made me giggle as I imagined them whipping the tape measure out Mary Poppins style! Grin

Have you seen this before?

I’ve heard of it, makes sense to me.

Seniorcitizen1 · 13/08/2018 20:20

See this in many all you can eat places. My son was well able to eat far more than me when he was 12 and towering over me

SparklyLeprechaun · 13/08/2018 20:21

Never seen it before, but makes sense. Avoids arguments as well from the CFs who pretend their 7 yo is 3.

TheLadyArmitage · 13/08/2018 20:21

Makes sense to me 👍🏻

shoofly · 13/08/2018 20:21

Flipping heck. Ds1 is 5'10, 12 years old and eats damn all Grin

Fatted · 13/08/2018 20:22

It's probably because they've had people trying to sneak in children who are obviously 10 in as 3 year olds or something similar.

The local aquarium by us has the same policy. Under 90cm gets in free. It's a bit annoying for parents such as myself who have exceptionally tall children and meant we had to pay for DS1 when he was 2.Angry

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 13/08/2018 20:23

Yes it usual round here (well when I used to be hungover enough to go to AYCE anyway).

butlerswharf · 13/08/2018 20:23

I've seen it too. It's just to stop arguments re a child's age... mainly those who blatantly lie. I think it's quite a good idea on the whole.

MarthaArthur · 13/08/2018 20:24

How weird Grin i was a tiny child and i remember once on holiday when i was about 9 i was playing on the play equiptment and they had a height limit. I was several inches shorter than it (tiny) and twice i was pulled off by staff who dragged me over to the height chart to "make sure" i was not too tall to play. I didnt know they still had these crazy rules.

SubwayA9car · 13/08/2018 20:24

jeez...dd 5 eats like a sparrow but is 130cm already.... but ds 1 much much shorter... can eat her under the table

Starlight345 · 13/08/2018 20:25

Yes my Ds has been full price since he was 8 . He is a beanpole tall .

firawla · 13/08/2018 20:27

Yep seen this in several Chinese buffets

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/08/2018 20:28

Tbh we are talking three foot and under so not exactly same as separating it into multiple price ranges.

eightfacesofthemoon · 13/08/2018 20:28

Why would you go to such a place
Shudders silently

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/08/2018 20:30

I was under 90cms when I was quite old though so would have been cheap for my parents. I looked about three even at six or seven

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/08/2018 20:31

Just realised I would have eaten half price until I was fifteen

checkingforballoons · 13/08/2018 20:36

I wish they’d bring this in for adults. I’m 5 foot tall and pretty damn impressive at a buffet.

KennDodd · 13/08/2018 20:45

Yes, makes sense to me. They probably have a height marker on the walk. NYC transit authority used to do this for child fares, don't know if they still do or not.

TooMinty · 13/08/2018 20:45

I'm under 150cm, do you think I could swing half price at age 39?!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/08/2018 20:47

When in Brazil we went to a couple of buffet style restaurants that charged by weighing your plate Shock cheap if you just had the salad Grin

Tartsamazeballs · 13/08/2018 20:47

Ahhhhh you're going to Tangs aren't you? 😭

cheesefield · 13/08/2018 20:48

Totally normal I think, most buffers here are height based prices. Fair enough really.

janizary · 13/08/2018 20:49

One of the chains of all you can eat places we go to does this, they have a measuring thing on the wall next to the 'wait here to be seated sign' and I've seen them get kids to stand next to it.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/08/2018 20:50

The local all you can eat we prefer is by age and they charge full price from age 10, which to me is rather young. But it’s a lot cheaper than yours. That said, children are only £3 cheaper than adults rather than half price. There is another one by height nearby.

bluerunningshoes · 13/08/2018 20:50

very sensible
