All you can eat child's price based on height?!

I am booking a meal at an all you can eat buffet for Saturday and when checking the prices, I noticed that the child's prices are based on height!

Is this normal?? I don't remember ever seeing this before and it seems a funny way to differentiate!

I've included a screen shot - made me giggle as I imagined them whipping the tape measure out Mary Poppins style! Grin

Have you seen this before?

MY DS is 20 months and 91cm

Sucks for us!

But I guess it makes more sense than doing it by age in most cases.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 13/08/2018 20:54

Brilliant for me, my children are tiny but can eat their own bodyweight in fish fingers

PlatypusPie · 13/08/2018 20:55

when in Brazil we went to a couple of buffet style restaurants that charged by weighing your plate cheap if you just had the salad

The ‘kilo restaurants’ kept us fed when the exchange rate was eyewateringly bad - had to educate my DH in how to get best value ie forget the rice !

TeenTimesTwo · 13/08/2018 21:03

My 14yo would eat for half price. Where is it?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 13/08/2018 21:04

Avoids arguments as well from the CFs who pretend their 7 yo is 3

Yep. Judging by the number of people on MN threads who thinks it's absolutely fine to lie about their child's age to get free/reduced entry somewhere, who can blame them?!

inquiquotiokixul · 13/08/2018 21:05

I know a few adults who are less than 150cm - could they eat for half price?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/08/2018 21:05

I went to a place like that in the states, it wasn't a buffet as the server loaded your plate for you but they just weighed it when we got to the till and charged by weight. It was delicious IIRC and much easier on the stomach than regular restaurants as American portions are huge.

Trialsmum · 13/08/2018 21:13

That’s would be great for us as ds is tiny but eats a huge amount 😂.

isthistoonosy · 13/08/2018 21:14

As a family of short arse this would be great for us, but I can't help thinking there should also be width measurements.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 13/08/2018 21:17

At least it's not priced by width of customer. That really would offend.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 13/08/2018 21:18

Cross-post!

couchparsnip · 13/08/2018 21:18

We have to pay full price for DS at the local chinese buffet place. He is 12 and 5 foot 10 but to be fair he eats far more than I do. I can see why they do it.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/08/2018 21:21

That seems like a fair and very difficult to cheat system.

fleshmarketclose · 13/08/2018 21:25

Dd is 15 and 145cm so half price for her sounds fair tbh as she eats like a mouse. Tbh if we don't mention her age people automatically assume she is under twelve and offer her a children's menu. Older dd was the same and was eighteen the last time she was offered a children's menu. Of course we order whatever she wants anyway.

ManyCrisps · 13/08/2018 21:28

Never seen this before but it makes sense as it stops CF from trying to lie about their kids ages

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2018 21:29

Cosmo do this. DS is 9/148 cm and loves it! (He eats more than me).

crosstalk · 13/08/2018 21:29

Why all you can eat? What about what you want to eat in proportion? What's the point?

ThinksTwice · 13/08/2018 21:35

I think the woman at Thorp Park the other day thought I was lying when I said my dd is 11 (she is) because she's very tall and well developed. She let her go in as a child's meal thankfully but to me I think why should I pay more for my child's meal because she's tall? She ate exactly the same as she would if she was charged £13.95 for as opposed to the £7.95 for a child's meal so I would have been charged an extra £6 purely for the fact she's tall if was done on height Confused

Peoplemaynoticeus · 13/08/2018 21:35

My youngest is 5 and Is 138cm!

Pinkvoid · 13/08/2018 21:37

Either to avoid arguments on the child’s age because I know a lot of people will claim their child is under the free age when they’re a year or two older or it’s because taller kids eat more? Grin unsure but it’s hilarious picturing the restaurant owner getting out his tape measure to figure out a price.

DiegoMadonna · 13/08/2018 21:58

why should I pay more for my child's meal because she's tall?

Because it makes more sense as an arbitrary measurement than age. A tall 11 year old probably eats more than shorter 12 year old, in general.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 13/08/2018 22:06

Yeah Cosmo do this, makes sense really.

ThinksTwice · 13/08/2018 22:13

Tall people eat more than short people? Hmm

crow2018 · 13/08/2018 22:25

I'm 24 and I'm only 149cm 😂😂

ShatnersBassoon · 13/08/2018 22:30

"Tall people eat more than short people? hmm"

Generally speaking, tall children will eat more than short children. It's a blunt tool of course, but it's better than dealing with customers who say their adult-sized, deep-voiced son is just a sturdy 9 year old.
