The establishment decides who are terrorists and who isn’t.

Who exactly is 'the establishment'

Corbyn was a back bencher. He was in no position to broker peace with anyone.

In his tweets etc since this all came out again, he hasn't once said anything about the 11 innocent athletes who were captured, tortured, castrated and then murdered.

Not. One. Word.

Metoodear · 14/08/2018 11:30

And it’s Corbyn who is the leader of the opposition not boris

People keep saying they don’t expect Tories to have principles but this gives them a free pass, which is utterly wrong. They are in government they should be held to account not met with apathy.

I will and I do.

The issue being discussed is anti semitism. I wholly criticise any failure of the Tories to condemn or address bigotry within their party.

If Jewish Tory MPs receive torrents of anti-semitic abuse, and the party fails to act to take action to address the rising incidents of hate speech within the party, I condemn that in the strongest terms, and hold them equally to account.

I've yet to see any response on this thread about how Labour have handled anti semitic hate speech within the party.

Agree with this.
All MPs & parties should be held to account & expected to have principles.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 11:32

Right so recent foreign secretary’s get a free pass. Not like he’s a public servant or in high office Hmm selective outrage.

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 11:39

Right so recent foreign secretary’s get a free pass. Not like he’s a public servant or in high office hmm selective outrage.

Nope. I have been plenty critical of Boris and others.

There are many others however that are unable to criticise Corbyn and shout smear and lies when faced with facts and his own words.

Selective outrage works both ways.

bananafish81 · 14/08/2018 11:43

Boris Johnson is an utter disgrace and a dangerous man

I think he's a complete turd and I would struggle to find a single thing with which to praise him

He's said some horrifically bigoted things, and is unfit for public office

I'm not sure how asking about how the Labour Party has dealt with its own affairs means that the Tories also get a free pass. They don't. They're horrific.

Does that mean that Corbyn's behaviour can't be questioned in any way?

How do you feel the Labour party leadership have dealt with anti semitic incidents within the party? Or can we not question them at all, because everyone else is worse?

Metoodear · 14/08/2018 11:57

Also boris is not seeking (yet) to be primister Corbyn is

For those who talk about Ireland, there were no official talks with the IRA until it renounced violence. When it did, the GFA was negotiated.

Idiots like Corbyn supported the republican cause unconditionally, thus reducing the incentive for them to renounce violence, and opushing peace further away.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 12:07

Stop giving boris a free pass. He is a public servant and accountable.

bananafish81 · 14/08/2018 12:11

Stop giving boris a free pass. He is a public servant and accountable.

I'm not giving Boris a free pass

He is unfit for public office. I deplore his actions.

I repeat my question

How do you feel the Labour party leadership have dealt with anti semitic incidents within the party? Or can we not question them at all, because everyone else is worse?

UpOnTheDowns · 14/08/2018 12:13

Corbyn's squirming BS is magnificently embarrassing: "I was present, but I don’t think I was actually involved in it.”

We're not talking about your role in the Remain campaign now, Jeremy!

GrinGrinGrin

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 12:17

Stop giving boris a free pass. He is a public servant and accountable.

People aren't. I don't think he is fit to be in office.

Corbyn is LOTO, yet many f his followers aren't holding him accountable for anything. It's always someone else's fault. You don't seem to criticise him at all.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 12:18

He’s already spoken out against anti semitism.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/08/2018 12:20

There is NO special relationship between the UK and USA, only what benefits the USA or as Trump calls it 'America First'.

Agree with this - Thatcher supposedly initiated this when she crawled up Reagan's backside, but it has always been for the benefit of the US - UK has has sweet words and promises and sod all else.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/08/2018 12:20

Kitty it seems rather pointless to engage in the rest of your confused invective at 00.53, but please could you clarify where I've made assumptions about your race or religion?

Back with the main point, and as someone who questions the actions of all politicians, I believe that claiming to abhor antisemitism simply isn't enough when there's little evidence of action being taken about it within the party itself - and even worse, when the leader makes such a point of supporting some of the worst antisemites of all

I also agree that it's a cynical numbers game - one which the unprincipled will continue to play since the number quite rightly criticising some of Israel's actions will probably never be matched by that of the UK Jewish population

bananafish81 · 14/08/2018 12:26

He’s already spoken out against anti semitism.

He's spoken out - repeatedly

But he's been unwilling to take action

Words are meaningless without deeds

Imagine if the police, post Stephen Lawrence and the charge of institutional racism, had been given guidelines from the leaders of the black community. Then imagine the police rejected these, instead a mostly white group of police officials, without consultation, drew up its own anti-racism guidelines. Imagine these officials then said to the black community 'here are the guidelines we're following', and when that community complained that these did not address their concerns, those police officials responded how dare you complain, you should be grateful.

Or if Labour unilaterally decided to rewrite a widely accepted set of guidelines on sexual harassment, in defiance of opposition from every women’s organisation and without consulting them, and delegating the task to a majority male sub-committee, and then expected women to applaud the new document.

How do you feel Corbyn has acted?

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 12:30

Words are meaningless without deeds

Exactly. Words mean absolutely nothing if you don't actually do something about it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/08/2018 12:33

In his tweets etc since this all came out again, he hasn't once said anything about the 11 innocent athletes who were captured, tortured, castrated and then murdered

Indeed Sad

For anyone who believes in agendas, I'd say that JC's couldn't be more obvious

Brilliant!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 12:38

I feel that whatever JC does will never be good enough for those that seek to make political capital out of it.

Sadly political discourse in this country reads that dog whistles against minority groups are perfectly fine all cries of injustice must solely be aimed at opponents of the real establishment.

If Johnson won a general election as Tory leader and a new centrist labour leader installed you can bet any talk of islamaphobia or anti semitism from MSM would disappear. Job done. Anti immigrant dog whistles would continue unchallenged as they have for decades. It’s all a game.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 12:46

The fact the Corbyn is now expected to tweet something about an incident that happened in a foreign country over 40 years ago just shows how people move the goal posts.

Justanotherlurker · 14/08/2018 12:47

I feel that whatever JC does will never be good enough for those that seek to make political capital out of it.

And yet all you ever do on threads like these is bring up the Tories.

bananafish81 · 14/08/2018 12:49

That may well be true. But what do you think about how JC and the Labour NEC have done to address bigotry within their own party?

You keep deflecting with arguments about BoJo and other parties being worse. I don't disagree.

But I'm asking a straightforward question about how the Labour Party is handling the issue of antisemitism within the party at the moment.

How do you believe Corbyn and the party leadership have handled this?

It's a simple question. I'd love to hear your point of view.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/08/2018 12:50

I feel that whatever JC does will never be good enough for those that seek to make political capital out of it

In the case of extremists you're probably right, but what about everyone else? There are a lot of floating/swing voters in the UK, whose votes are vital for anyone seeking election and they often deliver surprises for those who only see issues in polarised terms

What about their views?
