to think making 2000 in two months should be doable?

This isn't a begging thread AT ALL and this isn't me. My friend is really struggling and needs to find £2000 by 17th October.
She has time during the day, but has to be flexible around picking kids up from school and dropping them off, currently not working, but she's skilled - she was a writer for magazines but she has been out of it for a while so has lost all her contacts.
She's given up in panic and is just despairing which I can totally understand [the 2000 needs to be on top of her normal incomings] and I want to help as I feel like it should be possible in this window.
But my brain has gone blank!

I thought maybe freelance writing jobs but these seem to be few and far between, especially if you no longer have the contacts.
Does anyone do any of those paid survey sites or anything like that?
I've also got her sorting out all the old kids clothes for ebaying and am going to go through her house with her at the weekend to see if there's anything else she can sell.
Obviously, there's getting a part time job, and she's applied for a few but the process seems quite drawn out so no guarantee on that front.

Just wondered if anyone has any better suggestions than mine?

The matched betting thing, the trick is never to use own money, just the 'free' money the betting companies give you.

Blerg · 09/08/2018 19:16

I think it would be hard on top of childcare and other commitments tbh.

But this newsletter includes lots of freelance writing jobs weekly tinyletter.com/freelancewritingjobs

PalePinkSwan · 09/08/2018 19:22

This is really interesting, may try some of these ideas myself.

ItsLikeRain · 09/08/2018 19:23

.

Aridane · 09/08/2018 19:33

I can’t really think of anything other than selling possessions or body theft / fraud - not within that time scale. Though I am relieved no one has suggested taking in ironing

AnnieOH1 · 09/08/2018 19:39

@QueenDoria - I've PM'd you as I'm not sure about MN rules. =)

LostTheMarmite · 09/08/2018 19:41

Also suggest matched betting. It's risk free and by using Oddsmonkey or Team Profit you can easily make £500 pm

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 09/08/2018 19:42

Are all these "matches betting" comments spam bots?

FuckPants · 09/08/2018 19:45

Matched betting won't work, you'll make a few hundred but then the 'free bets*' offers will dry up and you'll be up shit creek.

*They're not really free, most want real money deposited.

LostTheMarmite · 09/08/2018 19:48

There's a whole section in Mumsnet Money Matters. I have been matched betting for almost a year and made over £10k tax free...

Another vote for matched betting. I've made 2500 in 5 months around my full time job.

callymarch · 09/08/2018 20:14

cleaning. £12 an hour for a lot of private clients, 5 hours 5 days a week is £300 a week - just need to find clients quick - more at weekends? Ironing in the evenings?

margaritasbythesea · 09/08/2018 20:20

Selling can be good. I agree with others. I made enough to cover (many, many) driving lessons selling old baby kit on ebay.

ThatchersCold · 09/08/2018 20:27

Matched betting question (never tried it) - do your ‘winnings’ count as income in terms of benefits?

frenchknitting · 09/08/2018 20:27

Matched betting really is an easy way to make a bit if money. The only risk is making a mistake in your calculations or when placing the bets.

There is about £800 - £1000 in easy money ready to be lifted by signing up new accounts at bookmakers and claiming the free bets. E.g. they offer "sign up and bet £30, get £30 free bet". You lay the bet (I.e. bet both sides of an outcome) so you make zero profit/lose on the first bet but get about 80% of the free stake back on the second.

There is a lot more money to be made in on going offers but that is a bit more variable, needs a bit more knowledge and you need to be placing better bets to make the same about of profit.

It's a bad idea if you are the sort of person prone to gambling, as there is no gamble involved. It's just maths.

frenchknitting · 09/08/2018 20:28

*bigger, not better

Jackieyoulooknice · 09/08/2018 20:31

@mummymeister you don't know what you're talking about

Yes OP matched betting is fab. I don't gamble... I make a steady 1k a month. Check out team profit.

LadyFlumpalot · 09/08/2018 20:31

@AnnieOH1 - please could you PM me also? I've been seriously considering becoming a VA. Thanks!

Jackieyoulooknice · 09/08/2018 20:32

BTW I can only assume the people who make wild accusations about matched betting as just jealous because they lack the dedication to make the easy money we are all making.

ManyCrisps · 09/08/2018 20:40

Getting a job

Cloudyapples · 09/08/2018 20:42

eBay/Facebook marketplace to sell clothes or furniturebshe no longer uses/doesn’t need?

mmmgoats · 09/08/2018 20:49

have PMed @AnnieOH1 thank you

@manycrisps hardly helpful, I've mentioned that she's applying.

I will pass on about matched betting, I have to be honest I don't understand it myself but I can link her to the threads you mention.

thanks @whitemarble
