to think making 2000 in two months should be doable?

This isn't a begging thread AT ALL and this isn't me. My friend is really struggling and needs to find £2000 by 17th October.
She has time during the day, but has to be flexible around picking kids up from school and dropping them off, currently not working, but she's skilled - she was a writer for magazines but she has been out of it for a while so has lost all her contacts.
She's given up in panic and is just despairing which I can totally understand [the 2000 needs to be on top of her normal incomings] and I want to help as I feel like it should be possible in this window.
But my brain has gone blank!

I thought maybe freelance writing jobs but these seem to be few and far between, especially if you no longer have the contacts.
Does anyone do any of those paid survey sites or anything like that?
I've also got her sorting out all the old kids clothes for ebaying and am going to go through her house with her at the weekend to see if there's anything else she can sell.
Obviously, there's getting a part time job, and she's applied for a few but the process seems quite drawn out so no guarantee on that front.

Just wondered if anyone has any better suggestions than mine?

@ethylred claiming benefits when you genuinely need to is nothing to look down on. It’s often not a choice for a lot of people.
I work, my friend currently doesn’t. She’s trying to find work. I really object to your attitude tbh, I don’t think any less of her because of the fact she currently receives a certain amount of benefits as a single mother who has a partner who has done a
complete runner.

An easy way is to reduce expenditure.

She should look at what can be cut back on (if it’s two months it doesn’t need to be sustainable)

By cutting back drastically on food, socialising, no alcohol, no shopping on consumables shampoo, coffee etc. She should make some decent savings, depending on expenditure it could be at least £500 in two months.

I do matched betting too. As it is classed as ‘gambling’ it doesn’t affect benefits.
I rarely tell people I do it as it could be easy to gamble your money away, and I have been guilty of this. If you do it properly though it is an easy way of making money. It has been a lifesaver for me the last few years.

Asking for a link to the £1000 a day thread... sorry it was about 5 years ago and I cannot find it now. It might been called something like £1000 a month and then those of us women who are higher earners piled in and said plenty earn £1000 a day never mind a week or month and there was one lady in financial services who makes £1m a year before half of it is taken in tax.

We found a lot of lawyers, computer programmers and IT people, management consultants, some doctors in the private sector, barristers. I presume some prostitutes can earn that a day but I'm not recommending that and you'd have to be very high end, think, pretty, young with expensive clothes and good connections.

I suspect some of these things for the lower paid jobs depend where you live eg around here - outer London there are shortages of people, my son was a postman and they had people start for a month and then leave; delivery van drivers- shortage too of people who can turn up and stay the course. Some cleaning agencies down here find it hard to find people who speak English who will never once be late and always turn up.

If she’s a freelance magazine writer she can pitch a few features and sell them. She must know how to make contacts.

Pinkandproud · 09/08/2018 21:36

@AnnieOH1 please would you mind PM-ing me as well? Thank you! Smile

mmmgoats · 09/08/2018 21:39

NC4Now i’m part of the same industry and it’s really not that easy. I HAVE contacts and getting pitches commissioned these days is really difficult and paid peanuts. I’ve had to branch out a lot because the industry is effectively dying

Have a look at a site called PeoplePerHour. She can confirm what jobs she's happy to do, so proof reading, transcribing audio etc. translation(assuming she can speak other languages), C.V. writing etc and she charges whatever she wants for the work. You can also search for people who are asking for jobs to be done.
You just set up a profile and away you go. I assume the company charges a percent of income, but should be flexible around kids/life etc.

eatthepineapple · 09/08/2018 22:15

@AnnieOH1 me too please!

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 09/08/2018 22:22

@AnnieOH1 please could you PM me too? Thank you.

I'm not familiar with matched betting. Cleaning, ironing or bar work maybe? Would love to make £2,000 on top of my current salary!!

Matched betting. Surveys. EBay. Mystery shopping.

It is more than doable

Stellenbosch · 10/08/2018 09:36

@AnnieOH1

Me too!

SillySallySingsSongs · 10/08/2018 09:44

As it is classed as ‘gambling’ it doesn’t affect benefits.

I can see that changing soon.

SuzanneVaguer · 10/08/2018 09:48

I am very surprised, too, by all the matched betting recommendations. The only poster I recognise is lljkk, who is a v long-standing MNer.

The answer to the OP is hard work, that's how you make money. I appreciate that it's v difficult to do around childcare, but three (or four) PT jobs will bring in money, even better if it's something she can do from home. Being out of the workplace for a long time is hard-working OP can you help build up her confidence?
It doesn't matter what the work pays at this stage (min wage, obviously)- its about making contacts for more work, more interesting work, better paid work etc, but she needs to get herself "out there" (sorry- that's so cheesy, but you know what I mean).
