AIBU to think camping is f*cking shit, it’s not cheap and it’s not fun

I’m currently a week into a 3 week camping tour of Europe and I’m ready to jack it in. I surely can’t be the only one to find this whole malarkey fucking hideous. Sleeping on a sloping bed in a tent hotter than the devils furnace, kids screaming day and night, neighbours who hate our wellbehaved Placid lab and have instructed us to keep him near to us at all times, never feeling clean, marriage hanging by a thread, no personal space or time alone. Not even wine is helping. And 50 bloody euros a night for the privilege!!
Please tell me I’m not alone on my detest for this form of holiday and share your tips to help me survive the rest of the holiday!

And you brought your dog along too to share the misery. Hmm wet dog, wet tent, wet clothes.....all smelling of wet dog! And that's before you discover, as I did, that all the insects prefer to sleep with you rather than out in the cold. Oh' 3 weeks!! dear god...what on earth possessed you?

I don't like camping, hence not having done it for about 15 years. It's dirty, noisy, and uncomfortable, and I don't want to wake up when the sun does. I prefer YHAs.

I know someone who is going round Europe with her family at the moment, camping and/or sleeping in minibus some of the time (when she's not staying with friends/family), and they just damaged their vehicle key and have had to get the spare one couriered to Germany for £110. It had to be Saturday delivery (which is 4x the cost of weekday delivery), because they're going to Spain on Sunday.

If they hadn't been camping, they wouldn't have needed a big vehicle with unusual keys (so it couldn't be recut locally), and this wouldn't have happened.

Though it is also her partner's fault for being blase about not needing travel insurance, otherwise they could have changed their travel plans and had the key sent slower.

I love camping, have 4 primary age DCs, we have a 4m bell tent and a VW T4, we do holidays with the kids also more glamping style stuff just me and DP. However 3 weeks would be far too much for me. A week is plenty but we mainly do long weekends or just over night, and thats with DP doing all the cooking and heavy lifting (his choice).
