Duplicate stuff - I need to return it, don’t I?

I ordered all of DS’s school uniform from Sainsbury’s.

I’ve been sent two pair of school shoes, two pairs of trainers and two pairs of shorts.

I only paid for one of each. It was a pretty large order so I suspect the picker got confused.

I have to ‘fess up and return them, don’t I?

Or AIBU to keep them? Or return the duplicates for a refund? Or pop them on a selling site?

Jesus - as I typed that I realised I’m BU.

As I stated previously it is not about the OP's situation which has been resolved by the OP correctly notifying Sainsbury's of their error it is the attitude of "just keep them don't say anything, Sainsbury's/other big retail outlets deserve it."

Of course losses are factored into the cost of items as anyone with an iota of common sense knows.

frogsoup · 13/08/2018 18:53

Where did anyone say they deserved it?Confused And we are posting about this particular situation! If op had received a spare 900 quid fridge then the replies would have been v different. And the bigger picture is that if Sainsbury's are having to up their prices because staff send out so much free stuff in error, then I suggest that the correct solution would be to review their procedures, because for small items like the ops, the cost of returning and processing will exceed the profit on the items! Which is why both many people on this thread and Sainsbury's both said not to worry her head about it. Good grief!

RedDogsBeg · 13/08/2018 19:04

Just read back the thread frogsoup there are plenty of comments along those lines.

Sainsbury's told the OP to keep the items after she had phoned and alerted them to the mistake - excellent, their choice to do that, their decision. The issue I have is those who would not (and advised the OP not to) contact Sainsbury's but just kept the item(s) anyway, but you know that which is why you are so touchy and slinging insults about 'moral superiority'.

frogsoup · 13/08/2018 19:45

Someone upthread said 'i guess I'm just more honest than most people.' Saying that is moral priggishness isn't an insult, it's a statement of fact. And I'm touchy because I don't like the way some people piled on the op just to make themselves feel good. I don't 'know' anything, except that your inability to see moral shades of grey in situations does not make you a better person than someone who sees things in a different way.

RedDogsBeg · 13/08/2018 20:39

Um no frogsoup someone who said they were more honest than most people in reference to the posts on this thread was making a factually correct statement.

It is a strange set of circumstances where honesty is regarded as 'moral priggishness'.

Can't see any moral shades of grey between being honest and being dishonest.

agedknees · 13/08/2018 20:48

I ordered 2 tee shirts from seasalt. When I opened the package there where 3 tee shirts. I phoned seasalt, explained what happened and sent them the third one back next time I was in the post office.

They did ask for the name of the packer (was written on the invoice), but I couldn’t read the writing.

Send the stuff back. They may do stock control and someone may get in trouble.

The eBay seller had just re-used some Amazon packaging.

i have bought things on eBay that have actually come from Amazon, so they have just bought them from amazon cheaper

Sophieelmer · 13/08/2018 21:01

I was going to say something but frogsoup said it all! And better than I could have so... what she said!

frogsoup · 13/08/2018 21:39

Reddogs no shades of grey at all between honesty and dishonesty?! You'd have been one of those 18thC magistrates sending starving children to the gallows for stealing a loaf of bread...or perhaps bemoaning those awful law-breaking suffragettes. Confirms my suspicion that one-dimensional moral universes are actually morally pretty bleak and arid places.

frogsoup · 13/08/2018 21:39

Thanks Sophie!Smile

MeMeMeow85 · 13/08/2018 21:42

I’d email them with the intention of returning it. Karma

WillowRose79 · 13/08/2018 21:43

Keep them and keep quiet! For sure

RedDogsBeg · 13/08/2018 23:42

What a load of hyperbolic crap frogsoup.

RoseWhiteTips · 13/08/2018 23:44

There ARE no moral shades of grey. What an utterly stupid thing to say.

KittyHawke80 · 14/08/2018 01:19

Oh don’t be absurd - of course there are. Morality isn’t a system of absolutes and inalienable truths. Some people think it’s immoral for men to put their penises in other men. Some know better. Some think it’s immoral for Elton John to spend hundreds of thousands a year on flowers - some people think he can do what he likes with his money. Taking Charlie Gard off life support - immoral? Keeping him on it - immoral? ‘No moral shades of grey’? Barking.

frogsoup · 14/08/2018 09:12

Kitty Shock barking is right. I did actually think maybe I was being a bit hyperbolic, reddogs, but rosewhite's comment after yours suggests that I really wasn't!
