Duplicate stuff - I need to return it, don’t I?

I ordered all of DS’s school uniform from Sainsbury’s.

I’ve been sent two pair of school shoes, two pairs of trainers and two pairs of shorts.

I only paid for one of each. It was a pretty large order so I suspect the picker got confused.

I have to ‘fess up and return them, don’t I?

Or AIBU to keep them? Or return the duplicates for a refund? Or pop them on a selling site?

Jesus - as I typed that I realised I’m BU.

Mumsnet jury?

Semantics.🙄

RoseWhiteTips · 07/08/2018 23:30

Bore off.

Katedotness1963 · 07/08/2018 23:31

Are so many people really so dishonest? How depressing...

RoseWhiteTips · 07/08/2018 23:32

Yep. Looks like it.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/08/2018 23:34

It is utterly depressing that anyone should think this sort of action is an option.

RedDogsBeg · 07/08/2018 23:36

Welcome to the skewed world of MN morals Katedotness1963, shoplifting is regularly excused, condoned and all but celebrated too.

Lalalalalolololololo · 07/08/2018 23:39

FGS It’s hardly shoplifting. I would keep or donate them personally if they were from a large corporation like Sainsbury’s. I’m not going to be inconvenienced by someone else’s cock up.

If it was a small business I would return them though.

Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 23:42

rose It’s not theft at all, don’t post such rubbish.

RedDogsBeg · 07/08/2018 23:42

Did I say it was shoplifting Lala? Or did you deliberately misread and not comprehend my post?

Fang2468 · 07/08/2018 23:44

Shoplifting, theft FFS!! There’s been no intent from the OP to end up with 2 lots of clothes. It’s very far fetched to call it theft and a million miles away from shoplifting!

Lalalalalolololololo · 07/08/2018 23:47

RedDogs forgive me for misinterpreting your poorly written post.

Penguin34 · 07/08/2018 23:49

You should let them know as I suppose by not doing so it's stealing.

Saying that, I ordered 2 dresses (different sizes) and a leather jacket from Asos.
They delivered it to the wrong address, they signed for it.
Asos sent out a new package which I got.
Then the person with the other package recognised my surname and took it to my mums!
I never told Asos and I returned one of the dresses for a refund and gave the other BT's away. I still don't feel guilty

Penguin34 · 07/08/2018 23:51

*bits

Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 23:51

penguin It’s still not theft if she fails to tell them.

DowntownDallas · 07/08/2018 23:52

This happened to me with m&s. 2 identical orders arrived, i returned 1 and explained what had happened. All good. About a week later I received a full refund. I called and explained but they were insistent that I hadn’t.

RoseWhiteTips · 07/08/2018 23:56

•Theft?
•Being dishonest?
•Trying to avoid paying?
• Toying with keeping stuff that is not yours?

Take your pick. Theft ya as good a term as any.

HTH

RoseWhiteTips · 07/08/2018 23:56

...is as

Saltandsauce · 07/08/2018 23:57

Honestly, I would return for a refund and be chuffed that I got the uniform for free 😂
Judge away peeps, it’s their error for sending two of each item! Don’t feel guilty, it’ll have gone completely unnoticed at the warehouse! Stuff like this happens all the time!

Nicknacky · 07/08/2018 23:57

rose Take my word it isn’t theft by any stretch of the imagination.

HTH

imamum21 · 07/08/2018 23:57

as an ex employee i demand you keep it, lets say its part of my wages i didnt get and having to take it further lol. its the staff members fault they should be able to read what it says on the invoice

Arkestra · 07/08/2018 23:58

Email them and ask. They may well just say "keep it" but I'd be unhappy not giving them the option to get them back.

Jupiter9 · 07/08/2018 23:58

You could return them for the next size. Good luck.

frogsoup · 07/08/2018 23:59

I don't know why, but I have always had this sneaking sense that the people who shout 'its theft, you immoral fiend' on this kind of thread are probably the people you wouldn't trust as far as you could throw in real life Grin People who feel the need to proclaim their scrupulous honesty even when it comes to depriving Sainsbury's of 0.0000000001% of a seconds profit protest too much imo. Self-righteous po-facedness rarely goes hand in hand with generosity of spirit or a warmhearted tolerant open-mindedness, I find. I reckon if push came to shove, such characters are the ones who'd be the first to shove you overboard in an overcrowded life raft Wink

Nicknacky · 08/08/2018 00:02

frog I don’t think you are wrong!

Although the posters saying it is theft are wrong.

SilverPartyShoes · 08/08/2018 00:02

Id email and tell them about the mistake.

There was a poster on here the other day who said as an employee they hate this though, as it shows up to management that they’ve made a mistake. :-)

You will feel better if you tell the online service what has happened, and if they do say keep it, do just that, you dont need to donate it elsewhere.
