Like brain surgery or astrophysics. You know the kind of thing that's easier than the absolute slog of princessing.

I agree. It's the existence of a Royal Family that's to blame here, not the York princesses as individuals.

NotAgainYoda · 05/08/2018 08:42

They are minor Royals who could have chosen to stay out of the limelight. They chose not to. I have little sympathy. Others are making the best of what they clearly, at times, have thought of as a bad job (Harry, William).

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/08/2018 08:42

Am thinking about where they come in the line of succession. Isn’t it:

Charles, William, George, Charlotte, Louis, Harry, Andrew...before you get to those two? That would be some tragedy!

lightonthewater · 05/08/2018 08:43

Zara is amazing at how she keeps her own life very private and out of the papers. However, she isn't actually a Royal as i understand it, as PA did not want her children to have titles, and they aren't on the Civil List.

B and E seem to court the attention more. Zara has a successful career of her own and doesn't use her Royal connections for advantage, so far as we know.

Anne works very hard and doesn't court publicity either.

Andrew and his ex wife however have always loved all the trappings, don't work at anything much and their daughters appear to want the privileges without the work. B and E could live quietly, out of the limelight and not give interviews. I don't think they know what they really want. Money does not make up for being in a Circus like that around the RF. To me, it's a pact with the Devil really. Sell your soul, your freedom and your autonomy for financial security. They have little choice, but I would not want it for anything.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 05/08/2018 08:45

edith absolutely agree with you.

Im not a royalist, however im fed up of this piliorory of people through accedent of birth and the fact people dont know Beatrice and eugaine have jobs which i thought was pretty well known

coolncalm · 05/08/2018 08:48

I don't think it should be reported routinely but do think that - when there are comments that they 'could try' something they are already doing -
Nobody's disputing that they don't put their name to charities. But when people point out that if they want a "role" it's a fair comment to say well why not try some humanitarian work. Giving their name to charities is not the same thing. Their contribution to "charity" is little more than giving their name to it and turning up for a free lunch at a charity function. Hardly what is meant by "humanitarian work". But then "work" is not a thing they're familiar with is it.

petrolpump28 · 05/08/2018 08:53

I would be sad if they faded away and did something useful. I find them an endless source of amusement.

How can people with money, time and advisers manage to look so ridiculous.

coolncalm · 05/08/2018 08:55

Naught As if we could all do the sort of "jobs" they do. Pick your own hours, come in when it suits, take loads of holidays, never have to worry about getting sacked. Their "jobs"are done or relieve boredom, more like "hobby jobs".....they can basically pick and choose as and when they go to work. Let's not pretend they're just like us, having to work for a living.

FolderReformedScruncher · 05/08/2018 08:56

The video of Fergie with the fake sheik was bordering on a cartoon of a grasper. Her actual hand gestures were grasping when they showed her the money and I can't seem to remove that image when I see them.

Cantusethatname · 05/08/2018 08:59

I'm with you petrolpump. Whenever there's a Royal event i look straight for them and if they were wearing something simple, elegant and flattering I would be so disappointed. But they never are.

coolncalm · 05/08/2018 08:59

Zara has a successful career of her own and doesn't use her Royal connections for advantage, so far as we know.
She wouldn't have achieved the success she has if it wasn't for her royal connections. Most people couldn't afford to do what she does. Just because she doesn't have the royal title doesn't mean she doesn't make use of her privilege.

Maybugger · 05/08/2018 09:06

Privileged parasites, like their parents, who court publicity whenever another Royal gets the attention.
Andrew has to be the least hard-working of them all - the 'Playboy Prince' yuck

longwayoff · 05/08/2018 09:06

June, I was agreeing with you too. Sorry if I didnt make that clear.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 05/08/2018 09:08

cool no but we to our cousins wedding without stupid comments about our hats/weight or dresses

We can go to work without paperatizi following everywhere
Fuck we can even go on holiday without a some paperatizi taking a picture of us in our bikini and the whole world commenting on our weight

We dont have to listen to pleaple calling our mother a sponger

They did not chose to have their grandmother be the queen

Lets not pretend that invasion in to personal life is nornal

YaLoVeras · 05/08/2018 09:09

I don't feel sorry for them but they've always been in the line of unnecessarily harsh and unpleasant and personal criticism, which I wouldn't have had the resources to deal with in my 20s. So much of what has been said about them basically boils down to ''how dare they carry a few extra pounds and dress badly''.

I'm not invested in to the monarchy, I"m Irish, but perhaps it's that detachment that makes me separate the institution from the individuals. Keep it, get rid of it, whatever. They're all privileged but if they're popular it's ''ok''. LIke William, is William not privileged and entitled?

I think there is a psychological phenomenon whereby people believe that nobody more fortunate than them is allowed to experience self-doubt, depression, uncertainty. Only people beneath you on the social scale have a 'right' to experience these very human feelings.

rosamundhopelovesdogs123 · 05/08/2018 09:11

The trouble is that they actively court publicity and then get upset when it is negative, I think they are poorly advised.
Best to stay under the radar, not do interviews (unless it's promoting a charity), don't go to quite so many nightclubs or parties and get photographed doing worthy boring things.
Prince Edward's daughter must be about 16 now and I doubt very much she will be courting publicity quite so desperately as she gets older.
Similarly, Lady Sarah Chatto is very rarely photographed or heard about so it is possible to live beneath the radar.
Zara Tindall is often in the public eye but has at least worked hard all her life and now at the top of her chosen profession.

Not keen on royals overall but do like Princess Anne. Knows w hat boundaries are and doesn't allow overstepping. 'Naff off' as she memorably said to the press pack many years ago.

OP posts:
BoxsetsAndPopcorn · 05/08/2018 09:19

I don't doubt they do think there job is hard. Others can disagree just like they can about any other job, plenty of comments here that not working is harder than having a job so people literally do moan about everything.

However, as non royals we can change jobs, don't have to worry about the press following us, make silly decisions, live life how we want etc. They have little say in their lives. Money isn't the be all and end all. Of course it helps but doesn't cure everything .

ourkidmolly · 05/08/2018 09:19

The thing is that they do court publicity so it's not merely an accident of birth that has occurred. Look at Sarah Chatto. Granddaughter of a king but lives a private life whilst enjoying privilege as well. It can be done they just choose to pursue their public life.

Clairetree1 · 05/08/2018 09:23

I agree with @araiwa

they are not lucky to have this life dumped on them, regardless of their wishes, abilities and inclination

petrolpump28 · 05/08/2018 09:23

Good luck to them if they carry a few pounds and also I believe the camera adds pounds.

Women come in all shapes and sizes. Kate is lucky, she carries clothes well and Meghan is very slim ( wont go there)

Those 2 young women could look nice, young , smiley, interested and fashionable. Why cant they go to John Lewis and ask one of the staff for help.

Tinycitrus · 05/08/2018 09:29

Yes they do court publicity. Right now they are all over newspapers and magazines in some sort of PR campaigned prepare us, the unwashed masses, for Eugenie’s wedding.

They are positioned as working princesses - the first! - who havent had it easy y’know. But they still find time to do charity work in between slogging it out at the art gallery or whatever.

viques · 05/08/2018 09:30

coolncalm yes,ZaraT was extremely fortunate that her parents were able to provide the environment and encouragement for her to develope her skills, but if she hadn't had a talent in the first place, and put in the hard work , she wouldn't have achieved what she has done in her field.

The little princesses on the other hand have tried their damndest to muscle in on their privilege and position, including selling their souls to the press. They are clearly desperate to cling on to what remains of the royal family because they believe it is their RIGHT to do so. They don't have to behave as they do, if they had really wanted a quiet life they honestly could have had one. Would you for example recognise any of Princess Margarets children or grandchildren if you tripped over them? No , because they have tucked their Royal connections into a box to get out for highdays and holidays and got on with having careers, having relationships, raising kids (albeit in a financially comfortable manner most of us can't aspire to) and generally enjoying an upper middle class life to the full but without the paparazzi being 'informed' of their every move.

E and B unfortunately got the genes of the two greediest and stupid people in the entire family. They seem unable to learn from their own and their parents mistakes regarding using the media. Hence this current interview where they have come across as polite but dim and completely out of touch with how most young women of their age and equivalent level of education live their lives.

I really have little time for Prince Charles, but if he is as determined as he seems to be about cutting back on the RF freebies for the extended family then that is a policy I fully support.
