Like brain surgery or astrophysics. You know the kind of thing that's easier than the absolute slog of princessing.

My heart bleeds. No sympathy for any of the royal family.

19lottie82 · 05/08/2018 10:59

whether people would like to swap places with them or not is irrelevant

To the arguements going on in this thread? Of course it isn’t.

ExFury · 05/08/2018 11:00

I find it funny when people use Peter Phillips as an example of not using his granny being the queen to get any publicity given he was the first royal (as such) to sell his wedding photos to ok/hello for a tidy sum.

The York princesses are in an unusual position. They are effectively in the same position as Princess Alexandra is/was in and she was always a full time working royal. The longevity of this generation of the Queen’s has totally changed the roles and expectations for the likes of B & E and the likes.

19lottie82 · 05/08/2018 11:01

It was a drunk driver and no seat belt that killed her.

So you think she’s still have been killed if they weren’t being chased by the press at high speeds?

19lottie82 · 05/08/2018 11:02

Anyway cool there doesn’t seem to be much point in us continuing this debate, we obviously aren’t going to reach an agreement.

Roomba · 05/08/2018 11:05

Hang on, maybe they're right? I'd like to check this by arranging a life swap for a month or so... I'll do their difficult job and they can look after my kids (one with SEN) on my p/t wages and Universal Credit. I can then fully investigate just how tough their lives are and report back. Reckon they'll go for it? I'll even be nice and leave them a map for the food bank, given its the summer holidays and my fuel bills just went up about 25% due to my fixed price deal ending. Transport (DS's scooter plus a bike with a flat tyre) also included.

I'm sure they'd jump at my offer Grin

Tinycitrus · 05/08/2018 11:06

Also I don’t buy all this ‘poor royals, I wouldn’t swap places etc’

BeUtigul homes, lovely holidays, the best if everything v and the odd royal duty. Sounds like a great life to me.

coolncalm · 05/08/2018 12:37

That isn't the point of the thread, and it isn't relevant.

So you think she still would have been killed if they weren't being chased by the press at high speeds
No, i think they wouldn't have been killed if the driver (the one that set the pace of the speeds) hadn't have been drunk, made sure his passengers had their seat belts on, and drove at a legal speed. It's wrong to lay all the blame at the press's door, just because the media led us to think that way. Anyway, like you say, we'll agree to disagree.

coolncalm · 05/08/2018 12:43

Roomba I'm sure they'll go for it. Their lives sound positively horrendous. I'm sure the princesses will enjoy queuing at the food bank and mixing with the peasants. Maybe put in for a crisis loan whilst waiting 8 weeks for universal credit. Those 35 hours a week job searches to ensure they don't get sanctioned? be a doddle.

Belindabauer · 05/08/2018 12:59

To answer the ops question, they cannot give it up.
That would be similar to when Edward V111 abdicated and caused the royal family unprecedented shame. Ok so they are not the whenever they are very close in line to the throne. Far closer than Zara Tindal etc.

I think the press is very cruel to them. I would hate to have my life scrutinised the way they do and it's almost always about how they look.
Diana was held in a pedestal and praised for being thin, even when she had an eating disorder. Yet she was not very nice in lots of ways but thats another thread, yet should do no wrong.
I would not want their life.

foxyloxy78 · 05/08/2018 13:01

No point to them at all.

LaDaronne · 05/08/2018 13:02

That would be similar to when Edward V111 abdicated and caused the royal family unprecedented shame

so it's happened before and the world didn't implode? not to mention they're way lower down the pecking order. unprecedented shame a) my arse and b) world's tiniest violin.

coolncalm · 05/08/2018 13:37

Of course they can give it up, they don't want to. Why the hell would they give all that privilege up. The proof is in princess Margaret, she could have given it all up for Townsend, she chose not to. Says it all.

longwayoff · 05/08/2018 13:47

Princess Anne's and Prince Edward's children don't have title. I doubt the sky would fall in if B&E gave up theirs. But maybe the titles add to their earning power? Like the Duchess of York who trades on hers.

WickedLazy · 05/08/2018 13:49

All anyone expects of them is to be well groomed, stylish and not be involved in scandals. 2/3 aint bad. I agree they should stop caring so much what the public think, but I know that's easier said than done.

WickedLazy · 05/08/2018 14:02

"They don’t help themselves they are entitled and spoilt

Can’t remember which one is marrying soon but why does she need such a big wedding not many people are that interested get over yourself"

Your majesty, is that you? Grin

I wonder what the queen makes of her family, if she has favourites etc. Would Eugenie and Beatrice be close to their grandmother?

ExFury · 05/08/2018 14:17

Princess Anne's and Prince Edward's children don't have titles

Edward’s children do have titles. They don’t use the princely titles they are entitled to use, but they do have titles.

SamanthaBrique · 05/08/2018 14:22

Yes, Louise is a Lady and James is a Viscount.

SamanthaBrique · 05/08/2018 14:23

(Although technically they are entitled to be called Princess Louise and Prince James of Wessex.)

ExFury · 05/08/2018 14:27

And James will be the Earl eventually, and the Duke of Edinburgh if that plan for Edward comes to fruition.

Tinycitrus · 05/08/2018 14:30

This YouTube clip is pretty accurate

RoseWhiteTips · 05/08/2018 14:35

They looked lovely in the Vogue cover.

RoseWhiteTips · 05/08/2018 14:35

...on

RoseWhiteTips · 05/08/2018 14:37

I think Eug will look gorgeous at her wedding. For once the wedding will be that of a blood princess.

SamanthaBrique · 05/08/2018 14:47

Yes, thank god for blood princesses. It'll make such a change from the recent common-as-muck royal weddings...Hmm
