There is a whole tin of tomato soup on my sofa

HELP please mumsnet I sat down with tomato soup, sneezed and knocked the bowl all over myself and more importantly my sofa!!
It's a giant bright orange splob in the middle of the sofa between two cushions. I have scrubbed it with some soap powdery water but it's still orange just slightly less so than before 🙁
Does anyone have any amazing ideas to get it out please? I can't even turn the cushions over coz it's a funny shape and all the cushions are shaped.

Soak them in biotex?

hellololly · 31/07/2018 11:29

What is the material of the sofa?

Rollyrollyrollyrolly · 31/07/2018 11:29

Never heard of it, where can I buy it?

Oh dear, had to be tomato didn't it?

As far as I know the only thing good for tomato is UV rays. You could try a cut lemon over the stain first but you'll have to do a test patch where you can't see it just in case. Hopefully someone will have a better idea.

Rollyrollyrollyrolly · 31/07/2018 11:31

You cant take the seat cushion bits out of there covers either so are they ok to soak? It's a funny fabriccy stuff that pulls really easy.
Starting to regret my choice of sofa....

Two cups of cool water to one tablespoon of Fairy Liquid. Sponge the stain with a white clean cloth and blot dry with paper towels until the water is absorbed.

I would be tempted to panic and throw on some chicken soup in the hope that the getting red wine stains out with white wine works for soups. Grin

Toddleoo · 31/07/2018 11:32

Is all the stained area washable? Toothpaste is fab at getting stains out but then you'd have to get the toothpaste out afterwards Confused

ShovingLeopard · 31/07/2018 11:35

A solution of white vinegar and washing up liquid in water should take it out, but it will need a long, long soak.

TheDarkPassenger · 31/07/2018 11:37

Oh sorry but that sounds quite funny. I just imagine an over exaggerated sneeze and soup flying EVERYWHERE

ThisMorningWentBadly · 31/07/2018 11:37

Sunshine. Once you got all the excess soup out (so tir’s ust the stain). Sunshine will get rid of that. Bung outside and watch the magic happen.

scaredofthecity · 31/07/2018 11:38

I've got all sorts out of my cream sofa with fairy washing up liquid. Just do it quick and don't let it dry.

ThisIsntMeHonestGuv · 31/07/2018 11:39

Maybe get a couple more cans of soup and dye the whole sofa?

Good luck with the more sensible suggestions! I'm afraid I have nothing better to add. Sorry...

Whyohsky · 31/07/2018 11:40

I dropped a bowl full of Heinz tomato soup over a cream carpet once. Got some Vanish carpet cleaner and you’d never have known. I was all set for replacing the carpet, it was a mess! Can you try that?

pastabest · 31/07/2018 11:41

no advice i'm afraid but hope you are ok and didn't burn yourself!

Rollyrollyrollyrolly · 31/07/2018 11:42

I will try white wine vinegar and washing up liquid and see. I would put them in the sun but it's pissing down atm 😣

thisisntme if everything else fails you might be on to something! 🙂

Get someone on the steam clean it? Worked wonders on mine (not tomato soup though!)

LookAtIt · 31/07/2018 11:48

Can you post a photo of the stain and fabric?

cjt110 · 31/07/2018 11:52

Nappisan - my friend swore by it to remove tomato based stains from her kids clothes.

PurpleChai · 31/07/2018 11:53

Dr Beckmann carpet stain remover is brilliant at getting orange stains out of fabric, you can normally get hold of it in the supermarket but is far cheaper to buy from Amazon.

gillybombilly · 31/07/2018 11:56

Dr Beckmann carpet stain remover. This happened to my friend when tomato soup went all over her sofa and floor.
Apparently it can be used on carpets and some upholstery-you can't tell it ever happened now (just check the instructions first).

Oysterbabe · 31/07/2018 11:57

I'd use vanish carpet cleaner or just vanish powder made into a paste, worked into the whole area and left a few hours.

SoloD · 31/07/2018 12:01

Make a feature of it and you can show people the exact spot where POTUS sat when Trump came for tea.

Mrscog · 31/07/2018 12:06

Tomato comes out in sunlight - so clean it the best you can with soap/water/vanish mousse then get it in the sun as often/long as you can - it will fade over time.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 31/07/2018 12:09

You could phone your insurance company. They may have a recommended cleaning company to use before they consider paying out for this accident.
I'd be wary of chucking random chemicals onto unremovable covers as it could actually invalidate your insurance.

gigglingHyena · 31/07/2018 12:19

If you can borrow a carpet cleaner that might be worth a go. We have a Biddle with a spot cleaning thingy. Any sort of wet n dry vacuum though so you can flood it with water and the suck it dry.

I'd leave steam cleaning as a last resort, past experience is I've set more stains than I've removed with mine. Tis perfect for defrosting the freezer though so it I can forgive it.
