This is utterly distressing, as a mother of a child with ASD, and learning difficulties, this could quite easily be my dd in a few years time, and it makes me sick, that there are scum out there that could do that to a vulnerable person.

I believe the yobs have been found and arrested, their parents show no remorse, only the impact of this on their poor boys. No apology to the lady, the apple doesen't fall far from the tree it seems.

I'd be disgusted and horrified if my hypothetical child did this to anyone, but treating someone so vulnerable like this takes it to another level. The very last thing I'd be doing is having a party for him. He'd be lucky to be allowed to go anywhere until he was sentenced. My priority would be punishing him and protecting the public from him, not treating him to a party he doesn't deserve. WTF is wrong with those parents?

Unfortunately as terrible as this story is it doesn't surprise me. There are so many incidents like this, but so many go unreported or if they are reported they aren't dealt with.

I have to recommend one of the best books I've read, which is incredibly disturbing but so important. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005DI9G9K/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21

It's called Scapegoat: Why We Are Failing Disabled people by Katharine Quarmby. It was published in 2011 but sadly little has changed, at least not for the better. It discusses various hate crimes and society's general attitude towards people with disabilities. It won't be necessary reading for so many of Mumsnetters who have experienced disability hate crime but as upsetting as it is, I think the stories within deserve to be heard.

84CharingCrossRoad · 30/07/2018 20:51

I read somewhere that the father of one of them handed him in.
If anyone did that to my Wilf I would be beyond devastated... 😪 😪 😪 😪 😪

Chocolate1984 · 30/07/2018 20:55

The parents are awful too. Not their wee darlings fault. Imagine how this is making them feel? What about the poor kids party being ruined by all the bad people disgusted at his behaviour.

I’m not really a fan of social media name and shame but in this case they really deserve it. The police should hand them over.

CanaryFish · 30/07/2018 20:59

4 youths ... but who took the picture? Is there a 5th culprit or did they leave the phone somewhere on a timer?
Scumbags the lot of em

GreatWesternValkyrie · 30/07/2018 21:00

Should be treated as a hate crime

I agree, I don’t have the words to express how base these disgusting boys are - that poor lady, what a scary and humiliating experience.

SouthernComforts · 30/07/2018 21:03

Vile little shits. I hope they are looking over their shoulders for a long time.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/07/2018 21:09

I never even thought of that, Canary.

NorbertTheDragon · 30/07/2018 21:10

My son is 16 and has autism and learning disabilities and keeps asking why he can't go out on his own like his younger brothers. And this is exactly why. Sad Other people. He just wouldn't know how to deal with a situation like that, he wouldn't understand that people aren't always nice and may want to hurt him.

If my child were to do something like that I'd be hauling their arse down the police station, like fuck would they be having a birthday party.

SilentEm564 · 30/07/2018 21:11

The mother of one of the yobs reckons they're the ones being abused... and it's ruining her darling's 16th birthday. Well that kid never stood a chance with a mother like her did he. She's the really vile one in my opinion.

chickensaresafehere · 30/07/2018 21:20

My dd is 11 too & has SN,she attends a special school,is non verbal with learning disabilities.
I just find it so fuckin hard when I see this sort of shit. It makes me angry, sad & fearful all at once.
I want dd to be able to live a life without this shit, but I know that's not possible. I wish I could keep her with me & protect her,but I want her to go out into the world & be accepted for who she is,without being afraid.
I try my best not to dwell on the future but it scares the fuck out of me when I read news like this AngrySad

thenightsky · 30/07/2018 21:23

What on earth is happening to our country? I cried when I saw this on FB.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 21:24

The little shits have police protection?? I don’t understand Confused. How is this possible?

CeridwensCottage · 30/07/2018 21:27

Utter scum. I sincerely hope their lives come to nothing.

KnitFastDieWarm · 30/07/2018 21:28

I’d like five minutes in a room with those cowardly little shits.

LighthouseSouth · 30/07/2018 21:36

I hope they get everything they deserve

I'm not a violent person but quite honestly some people only improve when they're dead

They should not get any police protection at all and I applaud the person who put the original photo up showing their faces

There's clearly no justice coming from the police.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 21:36

Of course their lives will come to nothing. They have no souls. Just dead inside.
But what damage they can cause as they slither through the world all the same Angry

MrMeSeeks · 30/07/2018 21:50

They don’t deserve protection! Why are we wasting money on this?

TheFairyCaravan · 30/07/2018 21:55

I’m absolutely disgusted at what these scumbags did to this poor lady. I’ve read they poured urine on her too. We’ve heard for years that disability hate crimes are going to be treated as severely as racist and homophobic hate crime so now is the time to prove it.

Me and DS1 (23) were discussing it earlier. Why don’t these 17yos have a life plan? Why aren’t they working? What on earth are they’ve playing at? Even the 15&16yos. I’m just gobsmacked. And as for the mother whinging about her precious little sausage’s birthday party being ruined she needs to get a fucking grip.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/07/2018 22:06

I can't link. My phone is a bloody Fossil.
However according to the Mirror. It was one of the shits step mum who took ther picture.Shock. Mind why I'm shocked I don't know. I've lived in this world long enough to know that. There are more decent people that cunts. However, When it bleeds it bleeds.
The insists he's not a monster. Just a silly boy apparently. Hmm
Yes he is. Well no hes worse than a monster. He's vermin and Shes even worse for condoning it.
I'm not talking about the parent who handed their son in.
However the other parents. The one mentioned above and the one more worried about her poppits 16th birthday party. Should be arrested, too
My nephew knows right from wrong and Hes 5 years old.

LighthouseSouth · 30/07/2018 22:12

"It was one of the shits step mum who took ther picture"

If that's true and she was part of this, she could be arrested I hope?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 22:22

One of their parents was there? Shock And took a fucking photograph? It beggars belief Hmm

chickensaresafehere · 30/07/2018 22:22

Disability hate crime isn't recognised as much as it such be.
To most people it's not on their radar,so doesn't affect them 🙁
Police & government aren't interested in it & that's what makes me want to bugger off to an isolated island & live my life in peace.
To quote Metallica 'Sad but True'.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 22:24

If it had been a trans women and they’d misgendered him; it’d be treated as a bloody hate crime alright Angry

TheFairyCaravan · 30/07/2018 22:24

However according to the Mirror. It was one of the shits step mum who took ther picture.shock.

No it wasn’t. The step mother of the little shit who took the picture gave an interview to tell everyone that he’s a nice lad really and he’s never been in trouble before.

I don’t know how she had the brass neck tbh

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 22:25

Ah...
