Quotation from Quintillian, I believe (unless someone was fibbing about that too).

'Current CIA director Gina Haspel talked in detail about torturing terror suspects by means of waterboarding and other controversial methods while she was running a secret back site in Thailand, according to previously classified cables.

Heavily redacted documents, many of which are believed to have been written by Ms Haspel, reveal a previously undisclosed level of detail about the methods being employed by the CIA following the 9/11 attacks and after George Bush launched his so-called war on terror.'

It is interesting that that the Oaf never mentions Avenatti, but that may be driven by some base instinct he has for a certain type of legal jeopardy. But he is not the right one to take on the Oaf. You cannot out Trump the Oaf, and that is entirely the wrong way to go. No idea who will be best to take up the gauntlet, no idea at all.

"What I fear for this Democratic Party that I love so much is that we have a tendency to bring nail clippers to a gunfight," he said in an almost 30-minute speech at the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding dinner, a fundraiser in the northern part of the state that is a frequent stop for presidential hopefuls. "I believe that our party, the Democratic Party, must be a party that fights fire with fire."

Cribbing but amending Obama, Avenatti added, "When they go low, I say, we hit harder."

'If we fight Trumpism with Trumpian tactics, American politics will continue to be a pissing match of who can be the most outrageous and entertaining candidate. Can't we go back to having presidents who have some experience in politics prior to their run for the highest office in the land.'

From the Wing Dinner speech:
Mike Memoli
@mikememoli
.@MichaelAvenatti: "What I fear for this Democratic party that I love so much is that we have a tendency to bring nail clippers to gunfights."

Avenatti: "I believe that our party, the Democratic Party, must be a party that fights fire with fire."

"When they go low, I say We. Hit. Harder."
"There is no question that we are the party of love in American life today... But here’s what I believe. When you’re fighting for the values of love, you can’t afford to fight lovingly."

"If we want a more inclusive, tolerant, compassionate, welcoming, gracious and merciful America, we must be willing to do battle to achieve it."

"We trial lawyers get a bad name, and some of us deserve it, but I can stand here today and say with pride that I’m not just some TV lawyer — I’ve been fighting for Davids all my life."

“When you’re fighting on behalf of regular people — as we Democrats are — you cannot be shy about fighting. You must own it. And never look back.”

Now Avenatti ticks off policy goals but not quite specifics-

-infrastructure
-college affordability
-Medicare for all
-ratifying the ERA
-gun control
-supporting public school teachers
-secure borders, but "refusing to steal children"

Interesting on the Avenatti pitch. He may be a fighter but he's not the right sort of candidate I think. It's as bad as Oprah. Hasn't the US had enough of sleb candidates?

Gumpendorf · 11/08/2018 07:53

Politics has always been dirty (Obama aside) and Trump has just made it dirtiest because that is how he rolls. He's a bully and bullies fear other bullies and not people who play clean and hope they will get extra electoral points for that. Avenatti isn't a politician but he's an operator and his willingness to fight dirty would scare Trump.

I don't know if Avenatti is the right person but no-one in the current political world has the ability/reputation to take on Trump and I'm not sure the electorate are in the mood to elect a Washington insider. Maybe by 2024, the pendulum will have swung back.

Newman further claims the White House tried to buy her silence after she left. She asserts in the book that within 24 hours of her departure, Lara Trump, the president's daughter-in-law, emailed her a contract to work on the president's re-election campaign for $15,000 per month.

The contract, Newman wrote, came with a nondisclosure agreement attached that was "as harsh and restrictive as any I’d seen in all my years of television."
"It said that I was forbidden from ever talking about the entire Trump family or the entire Pence family, to anyone in the universe, for all of eternity," she writes. "I declined the offer. I was done with

$15k is also what Keith Schiller, Trump's former bodyguard is paid. uk.businessinsider.com/rnc-trump-bodyguard-keith-schiller-slush-fund-payments-2018-2

I wonder how many more $15k payments are being made to ex Trump staff. Sean Spicer? Reince Priebus? Hope Hicks? Rob Porter?

Gumpendorf · 11/08/2018 08:13

And does anyone really think that Trump doesn't use the N word? The man has no filter, no decency. He doesn't draw the line anywhere.

My fear is that if there is taped evidence that is published, his supporters will defend him and will assume they have permission to use it too. AngrySad
