I read this today and I can't believe anyone would be so stupid as to leave a baby or any small child in the car while shopping weather it's 30° or not. I'm not usually a "call social services" person but in this case I strongly doing this person's ability to look after a child. Just shocking.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 29/07/2018 22:12

That's so horrible.

LongSummerDays · 29/07/2018 22:13

Good lord at 3 months my ds was at my side 24/7

pacempercutiens · 29/07/2018 22:13

Don't worry - the parents have been "spoken to"! Angry

Ridiculous that people think that this is OK!!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/07/2018 22:16

Just read this story. Something doesn't seem right wirh the mum here. I mean nobody in their right mind would leave a baby in the car while they swanned round Asda, would they?

Apparently there had been an announcement over the tannoy stating her reg but she didn't rush out of the store.

LaurieMarlow · 29/07/2018 22:17

My god but people are stupid.

Kannet · 29/07/2018 22:17

I only hope the baby was left accidentally.

haribosmarties · 29/07/2018 22:18

The mother must have serious issues... and id imply that from the 'she walked slowly back to the car.. and just stared at the ground'
Id imagine theres a lot of stuff going on there so I hope she gets the input she needs to learn to care for that child or the child gets placed with people who can care for it.

Racecardriver · 29/07/2018 22:22

Maybe she wanted the baby to die? Nobody in the right mind reacts to having left their child in the car that way, especially in such a hot day.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 29/07/2018 22:26

Poor baby

Some people do things out of being selfish or stupid or both they cba to be a protective parent too much like hard work

So yes on someone people’s minds this is ok

Not all mothers care that much for their children

giveitfive · 29/07/2018 22:29

She's obviously not well. Let's hope this awful incident has put her in the radar of appropriate support.

lulu12345 · 29/07/2018 22:29

So sad

Queenofthestress · 29/07/2018 22:31

appropriate measures have been put in place
Usually means a social services referral

hibbledibble · 29/07/2018 22:32

It's so strange.

I wonder if she forgot she left the baby in the car? There are stories of this happening: parents leaving their baby in the car instead of childcare, and the baby dying during a hot day.

peachgreen · 29/07/2018 22:33

Oh Christ. I read an article about parents forgetting their babies in hot cars and it's haunted me ever since. My worst nightmare.

Littlechocola · 29/07/2018 22:33

Shocking

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/07/2018 22:33

Also (in The Mail so it must be right Hmm ) the Seurity Guard was watching the car but wouldn't break the window?

Surely they must cover in their Training/Induction about incidents like this ?
If you believe a baby/child/dog is in danger the law is on your side .

gamerwidow · 29/07/2018 22:34

Obviously we don't know the full story but this I think it is likely the mother is very unwell herself to do this. So sad i hope the family get the support they need.

jay55 · 29/07/2018 22:39

Breaking the window could have risked harming the baby with flying glass. I can understand the security guard not doing that.

Fevs · 29/07/2018 22:40

@gamerwidow

I agree. This is horrific and obviously totally wrong but we don’t know the full story or anything about the Mum. Perhaps she has post natal depression or something else wrong.

The main thing is the child is ok and now the relevant and necessary help and support will be sorted.

ThePrioryGhost · 29/07/2018 22:40

From the description, the mother sounds unwell, or perhaps doesn’t speak much English and was confused, if she didn’t respond either to the tannoy or the rescuer talking to her. I hope she gets some help if she needs it.

But that poor poor baby. Just the thought that he might get distressed and cry and be all alone, to say nothing of the other risks of abduction or the car being hit etc, is absolutely heartbreaking Sad

spottybetty · 29/07/2018 22:40

How did the woman ‘force’ the boot?? Can’t imagine.

Quittingthyme · 29/07/2018 22:41

@peachgreen I think we read the same article. Horrific, I won't even click on the posted link.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/07/2018 22:43

Every year in America numerous babies die left in cars by their parents, the number is horrifying.

People smash car windows to get dogs out that have been left there in hot weather but the security guy didn't want to break the law and get a baby out? The world has gone mad.

LunaTrap · 29/07/2018 22:44

The security guard and other witnesses have commented underneath the article on the Birmingham Live FB page. The facts don't seem quite as the woman reported, the police told the guard (who was on the phone to them) not to smash the window and emergency services arrived within 2 mins of the call. The boot was also unlocked so wasn't forced open.
