What are your thoughts?

OP posts:

Had mine done about 14/15 by a grim piercer. Now an establishment with a higher age limit is one I would trust tbh

Caaarrrl · 28/07/2018 18:24

The only thing better than a piercing thread is a tattoo thread

Isadora2007 · 28/07/2018 18:25

Her body. Her business.

Caaarrrl · 28/07/2018 18:25

I have a few tattoos BTW and will be getting another with dd on her 18th soon.

JacquesHammer · 28/07/2018 18:25

Caaarrrl

God yes. Two posters pop up without FAIL and post such utter predictable crap it is hilarious.

DidimusStench · 28/07/2018 18:26

Can’t get worked up about it. I had my nose pierced at 14. Lots of my friends had their navels done at the same time but it’s not my cup of tea (although I have plenty of others).

What’s to judge if the parents have been supportive enough to make sure they go to a reputable place and get it done properly?

amilosingitor · 28/07/2018 18:28

I had mine done at 13. Still got it in now at 31 because I feel weird without it

WonderTweek · 28/07/2018 18:30

I reckon 15-16 would be ok but maybe not 13. Depends on how mature she is I suppose. There’s also the risk that her friends will follow and do the same, which could be tricky if they’re a bit less mature. Although it’s obviously not your issue as they should ask their parents first. Just something that I was pondering.

Haha. I had mine at 16 and didn’t tell my mum but I already had my nose, eyebrow and tongue pierced so it didn’t really make a difference. The only thing I will say that getting your navel pierced hurts like hell - at least it did with mine and I was quite experienced with piercings. I’d also recommend a bar as they’re less likely to cause hassle. I had a ring which was sore as it kept moving around so I took it out and the hole healed immediately, so in order to get a bar I had to get it re-pierced which again hurt like hell. Grin

My only stretch mark from my pregnancy is on the bit where I used to have the belly bar. It stretched and now it has a tiny scar on it. Doesn’t bother me at all but something to consider perhaps.

Horrible.very young ugh

Nixen · 28/07/2018 18:34

Tacky! Just like pierced ears on babies

scolotti · 28/07/2018 18:35

Can someone explain what 'tacky' means. Is any accessory called as tacky

buckingfrolicks · 28/07/2018 18:35

Have not RTT by imo that's pretty vulgar and people more important than me will judge her and you

Caaarrrl · 28/07/2018 18:36

Yes jacques and shock horror I am a primary teacher! So obviously those that spout nonsense about piercings and tattoos holding back careers are wrong.

OP, my dd wanted helix piercings when she was younger so I told her to research the procedure risks, healing time etc. Then she decided on hey own that it was not worth the pain etc.

JacquesHammer · 28/07/2018 18:37

and people more important than me will judge her and you

Which people?

Yes jacques and shock horror I am a primary teacher! So obviously those that spout nonsense about piercings and tattoos holding back careers are wrong

I was a solicitor. Then of course I was told I was the wrong kind of solicitor Grin

I'm now director of my own business.

Clionba · 28/07/2018 18:39

Why did the piercer ask your daughter if she'd started her periods yet? Why is that a factor? Confused

LaurenJade96 · 28/07/2018 18:43

I don’t see why not! As long as she is sensible enough to be able to clean it and look after it on her own. Both of you should look into potential problems and aftercare etc, and then let her decide for herself.
I had piercings really young and I absolutely loved them.

Ifeelshit · 28/07/2018 18:47

I got mine done at that age. I don't see the issue personally.

KOKOagainandagain · 28/07/2018 18:48

I probably had mine done in the nineties. I am now 52 with 2 teenagers. Feels like part of me. I want to have my diamond earrings made into a jewel as I never wear them.

I had mine done at 14. I don’t think it even lasted a year before I took it out. It left quite an impressive scar. As long as it’s kept clean and doesn’t get gritty then fine but I found it just got in the way and I was scared of knocking it

juneau · 28/07/2018 18:52

I had a naval piercing (not at 13 - I was 25), and it was really tricky to care for. It got caught on clothing, it was REALLY sore to begin with and mine quickly became infected (due to clothing rubbing on it, catching on it, etc), and although I cleaned it religiously it started to smell. I tried my best with it for six months and eventually took it out, whereupon it closed up within 24 hours. I honestly think my body just rejected it, because I had friends whose piercings healed just fine. Anyway, almost 20 years later I have a scar rather like the PP who posted a pic and it's not very pretty. I've had two kids and the scarring got stretched and I wish I'd never had it done now!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 28/07/2018 18:56

I had mine done at a similar age. Lots of girls were getting them done at school. I went to a proper tattoo place and had the piercing done there. I took a bad reaction to the bar and it ended up eating through my skin which was painful. It’s all healed now, I took it out and let it close up, but I don’t have much feeling where it happened. I can pinch it and feel nothing. The scar doesn’t look great but not awful. As long as she cleans it it should be fine, I will advise that if any signs of allergy occur, change the bar or just get proper gold before getting it pierced and get them to put it in. I’d probably allow mine to do it when older, along with hair dye etc. I’m surprised it’s still something that’s wanted though, mine was around 9/10 years ago.

CherryPavlova · 28/07/2018 19:04

Mine weren’t even allowed their ears pierced until they were 16. Naval piercing definitely not.

givemesteel · 28/07/2018 19:09

It would look chavvy, tarty, tacky.

You're adorning a part of the body that is usually covered unless swimming / on the beach etc. Do you not think it gives boys (her age and older) the wrong idea?

Please don't do this, she has the rest of her life as an adult for piercings.

JacquesHammer · 28/07/2018 19:11

Do you not think it gives boys (her age and older) the wrong idea?

What idea?

Why are girls responsible for what boys think?

KOKOagainandagain · 28/07/2018 19:12

I am racking my brain to think of any job application or interview process that would involve a navel inspection Hmm
