What are your thoughts?

I think maturity wise does the child understand what can go wrong, and be prepared for that? That they should have it done by a permutable piercer, who will advise them the best jewellery to have in order for it to be a success and the child won't be the one telling the piercer exactly which one they want just so they look cool to their mates?

This is a good blog article and worth a read:

My DD is the same age, she would not be mature enough IMO, but your DD may be a lot more mature OP and is able to understand all that goes with it. I have piercings myself, I considered them carefully (like tattoos) and so I still love them 20+ years on.

ShawshanksRedemption · 28/07/2018 17:36

reputable not permutable!!

lynmilne65 · 28/07/2018 17:44

Tinge ??? WTF ???

glintandglide · 28/07/2018 17:46

I am roaring with laughter at tinge

Bambamber · 28/07/2018 17:48

I had mine done at 14. Most people didn't judge because most people didn't even know I had it done. As long as they're mature enough to look after it properly I don't see the problem

lynmilne65 · 28/07/2018 17:51

Ugh so common 😑

My mum took me to get mine done at 14, I only took it out when I got pregnant at 30.

Revolting, anyone who takes an 11, 12, 13 year old for a navel piercing should be prosecuted, as should the piercer

user1497545304 · 28/07/2018 18:08

Thanks for all the replies. Even the bitchy ones Wink (you all need some Wine - it’s just a little hole Grin )

Whilst she is definitely mature enough to keep it clean and all, I think we’ll wait a year or so as, agreed, she’s a bit young. I’ll also make sure she’s entirely weighed up the pros/cons and will show her YouTube videos etc. I personally don’t have a problem with it myself as no one’s going to see it unless she wears a bikini or crop top (and I think it looks quite pretty myself, but maybe I’m having a midlife crisis)

We’re in England, I’m sure with my parental permission, she can have it done at her age in a reputable place? Maybe not?

Keep the replies coming, this thread is definitely interesting Smile

Prosecuted using which law?

NynaeveSedai · 28/07/2018 18:11

16 for body piercings imo

Yes you can. If you're anywhere near the North of England I can recommend some places

MrsGB2225 · 28/07/2018 18:11

I got mine pierced at 16. School didn’t care because it was hidden. My ballet teacher wasn’t happy though. Was at a good salon and healed quickly. Still have it now after 2 pregnancies. Never had any issues with scaring/stretching (and I gained a lot of weight!)
It’s hidden and can’t be taken out so not a big deal in my opinion.

MrsGB2225 · 28/07/2018 18:12

That should be 13 sorry

katseyes7 · 28/07/2018 18:15

l've had mine 20 years. l had it done just before l was 40. lt's never gone septic and l've never had a problem with it. So far as l know, piercing isn't illegal so long as they have parental consent. And at least navel piercings aren't visible and if you do take them out later, the hole's no bigger than an earlobe piercing. Much easier to deal with than unwanted tattoos.

scolotti · 28/07/2018 18:16

How can a little gem in your belly button look 'naff' or 'horrible'.

I have mine done. I'd perhaps allow it at 15/16. I think it looks lovely on a nice belly, and it remind me to try and keep my tummy area in shape.

Cleaningthefours · 28/07/2018 18:18

Chavvy, common, fat people have them, mutilation, should be criminal..

What next?

I love MN piercing threads Grin

JacquesHammer · 28/07/2018 18:19

What next?

A rousing chorus of “you’ll never get a job” I imagine

OurMiracle1106 · 28/07/2018 18:19

Had mine done a year ago. I’m late 20s. Always wanted it. Now have the figure for it.

Kaib223 · 28/07/2018 18:19

I got mine done at 13. Was fine but as she gets older it may stretch with her. Don't really see a problem with it Confused

Deshasafraisy · 28/07/2018 18:19

Irresponsible of the parent to allow it.

exLtEveDallas · 28/07/2018 18:22

DD is 13 and asked about it this year. I didn't have an issue with her having it done, but after talking to the lady in the piercing parlour she has decided to wait. The lady checked the depth of her belly button and said that whilst she was 'suitable' she would recommend waiting at least a year to see how much more she might grow. She also asked if DD had started her periods (no) and said that was another consideration.

DD had her helix done instead, and is going to wait at least a year, maybe more.

crazycatgal · 28/07/2018 18:23

Had mine done twice and it grew out both times, unfortunately it can happen.

It's not illegal to have it done under 16. Most places will pierce a 13/14 year old with a parent or guardian present.

LBOCS2 · 28/07/2018 18:23

But ear piercing is ok because... cultural norm? No different.

I had mine done at 14. It was fine, I looked after it, never had any problems. I can't see why people get so aerated about it to be honest. I don't wear it any more and that's fine too; I'm 33 and have had two children so I mostly keep that area covered nowadays 😁
