What are your thoughts?

Thats the age when you want something like that. Its not permanent so as long as I thought they could look after it then id let them have it. I generally think that with things like that (bright coloured hair, nose piercings, weird clothing) just let teens get on with it because they arent going to be able to do those things as much as an adult... they will have to think about getting jobs etc... I mean hopefully they will try it out and get to enjoy it for a few years and then go on to being an adult and looking professional!!

Snowysky20009 · 28/07/2018 15:58

Had mine at 15, now 38 and have never taken it out (well only to change the bars).

DearMrDilkington · 28/07/2018 15:58

I had mine done at 14, still have it in.

thisisannc · 28/07/2018 15:58

I'm not a fan, but loads of my school friends were allowed navel piercings at that age back in the early-noughties. Do teens these days want them still? I'd assumed they were a bit of a dated trend nowadays.

Mishappening · 28/07/2018 15:59

GP OH saw so many of these in a yucky septic state; so I would say no. It is a prime area for bugs to proliferate - warm. sweaty and airless inside. But at least she is not left with a hole in her face if she changes her mind in x years.

IGiorni · 28/07/2018 15:59

A friend of mine had hers done at 17 and passed out, she only kept it for a year but they were quite a new thing back then. I'd be surprised to find a reputable salon that would body pierce a minor. Most are 17+ with photo id, ears are usually younger but still 13/14 ish with a needle which is much better than a gun.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 28/07/2018 16:02

Aren't navel piercings a little bit... 2002? Very Britney Spears in the Slave4U days! I'm surprised teens want them now?

Most people I know, including myself, had problems with navel piercings not healing properly, growing out of the skin etc. Grim.

Although there’s no legislation governing the piercing industry in terms of age limits, most salons have their own.

In my experience it tends to be under 13s require parental consent, over 16s require ID and over 18/21 for nipple/genital piercing.

BitchQueen90 · 28/07/2018 16:03

I had mine done at 14. Absolutely fine. Only took it out when I got pregnant. Salons will do them at 14 if parents consent.

I've got loads of piercings and that was one of the easiest ones to deal with as it's just flesh. My nose was worse!

Bossyboots88 · 28/07/2018 16:05

It's definitely not illegal, I say that as a professional Piercer. At that age because she hasn't finished growing there's a chance it could grow out. She also needs to be aware that it can take around a year to fully heal and cleaning needs to be a top priority to avoid infection.

TheBigFatMermaid · 28/07/2018 16:07

I took DD1 to have hers done at 13. I really could not get worked up about a piercing and she desperately wanted it.

She is now married, with 2 DC and has gained weight. She is glad she had it done and could enjoy while she still had the figure to enjoy showing it off.

BUT it doesn't matter what I think, or anyone else on this thread, your child, your decision!

kaytee87 · 28/07/2018 16:08

I'm so glad my mum never let me get mine done as a teen 😷

viques · 28/07/2018 16:08

OK I take back illegal, apparently you can agree to having your 13 year old child -mutilated- pierced as long as you stand there and watch.

Still think it is naff and unhygienic though.

19lottie82 · 28/07/2018 16:13

I’d say 16. 13 is too young.

ShesABelter · 28/07/2018 16:22

Why not. Doesn't bother me at all.

Bossyboots88 · 28/07/2018 16:29

As there's no legal age to have a piercing done it's at the Piercers discretion (with the exception of nipples and genitals) I've had people in the past bringing 8/9 year old to have them done. I refuse to pierce them (except for ears). The parents then go and leave us shitty reviews on Facebook for refusing.

ManyCrisps · 28/07/2018 16:34

It will make them look like a massive chav

itssquidstella · 28/07/2018 16:35

Not until 16 at the youngest. I'd probably say wait until they're 18 and can do what they like, tbh, and I'm speaking as someone who has their own bellybutton pierced (got it done three years ago, at 30!).

Livinglavidal0ca · 28/07/2018 16:36

Had mine done at 14, most of the girls in my year had theirs too!

adaline · 28/07/2018 16:39

I got mine done ten years ago - still have the bar in.

Personally I didn't find it particularly painful although it did take a long time to heal. I see no reason not to let a 13yo get it done - it's not illegal nor is it permanent.

SouthernComforts · 28/07/2018 16:41

Had mine done at 12!

mrsfredweasley · 28/07/2018 16:42

I got mine done at 14 and I was perfectly capable of looking after it myself 🤨 I took it out when I got pregnant at 24 and never put it back in. Certainly don't regret getting it done.

ThomasinaMouse · 28/07/2018 16:43

What's the big deal? It's a piercing ? Obviously if she wants it and is mature enough to look after it.

slovenlys · 28/07/2018 16:46
